Arrived at holiday cottage and no towels!

So we have arrived at a holiday cottage, we have stayed at many in the past and there are no towels. Although bizarre I know this happens ocassionally so went back to check the listing and there's no mention of this.

We are miles from anything so suggestions on a post card for showering tomorrow morning - the curtains?! Just kidding of course.

What's the most random thing you've found missing? Before this it was hand soap which I found ridiculous given the price.

we had the same in the lake district- a lovely luxury cottage with every amenity but no towels.

52FestiveRoad · 16/06/2018 19:09

We stayed in a hotel in Turkey once, they collected our towels in the morning to send them to the laundry, then we did not see them again,. When I queried it we were told sorry we don't have enough towels for everyone Confused eventually I saw the cleaning ladies cart in the corridor, it had fresh towels and I just nicked some off there. If I had not done that then we were looking at using the bath mat....

Undercoverbanana · 16/06/2018 19:10

Why would you not take towels on holiday? I would always expect to. Can only suggest you use an old t-shirt and give it a quick hand wash afterwards.

Missingstreetlife · 16/06/2018 19:10

There will be a phone number, perhaps in info folder? Or call booking agent for emergency number. Is there spare bedding, pillowcases?
Did you bring swimming towels?
Large supermarket, or holiday shop in a resort, will sell towels, next day delivery from catalog or argos (m&s or j lewis)

FindoGask · 16/06/2018 19:11

Shurely shome mistake if there's nothing in the listing - usually they mention it if you have to bring your own towels, because of precisely this eventuality.

savingin2018welltryingto · 16/06/2018 19:12

Undercover - we have stayed in more than 10 places in the last three years and never encountered this. I would have thought it would be in the description.

The hotel in Turkey made me smile!

No swimming towels. Argos is a good shout, will have a look thanks!

Can you contact the owner/caretaker? They may be able to help until tomorrow?

Where abouts are you staying? Maybe someone can suggest the closet supermarket which will stick towels.

Every cottage I have ever stayed in has either provides towels or made it clear they are not provided so I would be annoyed in your position that there was no mention of it!

Troels · 16/06/2018 19:15

Asda in the next town maybe? The have beach towels for £5

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 16/06/2018 19:17

We’ve had this before too and luckily were able to nip out and get some.
Chamois from the petrol station? Grin

MikeWyzowski · 16/06/2018 19:17

I rent out a one bed apt through Airbnb, i leave two large towels per guests plus floor mats, hand towels and tea towels. As well as a stack of spares of each. My husband and I went to stay in a similar sized Airbnb in Dublin. We communicated loads with the hostess, she knew there were two of us. In the whole apartment (significantly more expensive than mine!) Had two (TWO!) Threadbare hand towels.

I would never expect a guest, friend or paying guest, to travel with towels and think it is below par to think otherwise. Shame on your hosts OP. Is it warm enough where you are to air dry yourselves in the garden? It would add an interesting element to the holiday

Akire · 16/06/2018 19:18

Drip dry in shower then streak to bedroom and blast yourself with hair dryer.

Angrybird345 · 16/06/2018 19:19

The house should provide towels! That’s really poor! Cheapskates.

corcaithecat · 16/06/2018 19:20

That's bizarre and really poor service. I have never stayed in a holiday cottage that didn't have a decent supply of towels and spare bedding. Definitely include that info. in any online review you leave.

Blostma · 16/06/2018 19:21

This happened to us once. It was a mistake, but not rectified till the next day. Fortunately there was an Asda only an hour away.

WyldDucks · 16/06/2018 19:21

Unless it specifically states I always take my own,I'd rather just bring mine home clean rather than risk being without.

Of course this is of no help to you now! 😂

Use a t-shirt and buy some tomorrow

Witchend · 16/06/2018 19:22

We've stayed in quite a variety of holiday cottages and I don't think ever had towels provided.

user1494055864 · 16/06/2018 19:23

Argos do same day delivery if there is one near.

fhefelineofthespecies · 16/06/2018 19:23

Have you searched everywhere? Some friends and I once stayed in an airbnb where the host had hidden the old and insufficient in number towels in a bench in the kitchen Confused

woollyheart · 16/06/2018 19:24

I would expect towels to be provided if they provide bedlinen. Or else they should make it very clear that no towels are provided.
You could contact them - maybe they forgot the towels.

BolleauxtoBankers · 16/06/2018 19:24

We are not holiday cottage letters or airbnb or anything, but we quite frequently have guests from Greece visiting us. Without fail, they ask us if we want them to bring bed linen and towels! It seems to be a form of politeness as they don't want us to have to go to the trouble of providing things which we will then have to wash. Makes us laugh every time! But doesn't help the OP, sorry!

savingin2018welltryingto · 16/06/2018 19:24

I think we will use the drip dry and hairdryer technique until can get out somewhere tomorrow - the nearest supermarket seems to be 45 mins (and not in a place we wanted to go!)

On further investigation there are no dishwasher tablets (we did bring our own), one tea towel and a total of 3 logs with no kindling.

This is a 'luxury' cottage and it seems silly to not include these things which cost little but make a big different to customer experience.

AnnieOH1 · 16/06/2018 19:26

This would genuinely concern me that they were taken by the last guests and there's been no-one in to actually clean the property between their stay and yours. =( I'd definitely report it asap so you don't get billed for walking off with them!

WindyWednesday · 16/06/2018 19:27

I do take beach towels with me in case. But not even a hand towel is strange. I’ve never stayed anywhere that didn’t have towels.

Where are you renting it from? Letting agent or private?

I’d call ASAP and ask for towels, may be an over sight in the part of the housekeeper. Is everything else there? Clean bedding etc.

namechangedtoday15 · 16/06/2018 19:27

I'm always surprised that you assumed it would provide towels Confused. If there was no mention of it in the listing, why didn't you check?

If we go self catering (airbnb/ caravan type thing) I would always enquire whether linen (including bed linen/ bath towels / tea towels) is provided.

WindyWednesday · 16/06/2018 19:28

Use the tea towel to dry yourself with?
