Arrived at holiday cottage and no towels!

So we have arrived at a holiday cottage, we have stayed at many in the past and there are no towels. Although bizarre I know this happens ocassionally so went back to check the listing and there's no mention of this.

We are miles from anything so suggestions on a post card for showering tomorrow morning - the curtains?! Just kidding of course.

What's the most random thing you've found missing? Before this it was hand soap which I found ridiculous given the price.

I always take my own bath towel (in the UK) because I don't like the idea of using towels that have been laundered with other people's in whatever kind of detergent a laundry or owner may use. No guarantee they have been washed at 60C so you never know what's lurking on them.

I always take a spare loo roll, washing up gloves and sometimes a tea towel and hand towel- just throw them in a plastic bag in the boot.

Currywurstmitpommes · 16/06/2018 20:17

we stayed in an apartment hotel. It had a kitchenette with hob and fridge, but no pans, cutlery or crockery.

maybe the drip dry approach is best- at least its not the middle of winter? Do they have any tea towels?

TheAtlanticWatch · 16/06/2018 20:18

Sorry if this has already been suggested, but is there a number for a caretaker/housekeeper anywhere? They will probably be able to help.

This has happened to us i.e. place we had stayed before, no towels on one visit. Phoned the caretaker, she was very apologetic as she had simply forgotten to put them out. Sorted it out the next day.

We've also driven 50 odd miles to buy from supermarket another time where we knew we had to bring our own towels and forgot Blush.

Hope you get it sorted..

TheAtlanticWatch · 16/06/2018 20:19

i.e. someone local rather than company

WindyWednesday · 16/06/2018 20:19

£1400, is normal for a week in the uk this time of year.

I’m paying similar for a week in the uk for 3 of us.

Scrowy · 16/06/2018 20:20

I bet someone's fucked up and hasn't turned the cottage over properly. There will be a box sat in the back of someone's car somewhere with your towels and dishwasher tablets in.

There should be contact details for either the owners or an out of hours mobile number for the cottage company in a file somewhere in the house.

I've rented two-bedroom self-catering apartments on several occasions with a family member, and mentioned in correspondence that I will be travelling with this [obviously opposite gender] family member. The number of times that there's no bed linen in the second bedroom, despite this. Really very annoying.

Petalflowers · 16/06/2018 20:24

I would always take my own towels.

reallyanotherone · 16/06/2018 20:25

You won’t die if you don’t shower in the morning.

Get dressed, find towels, whether it’s from the host of argos, shower later in the day.

ChristmasTablecloth · 16/06/2018 20:26

We stayed in a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom holiday cottage in the UK in half term week (£800 if anyone is taking notes) and after we'd booked it we got an email from OwnersDirect or whoever it was saying towels were not provided at that property . So we I stuffed into a bin liner packed 4 bathsheets, 4 hand towels, 8 flannels, 2 towels and 2 tea towels to use in the kitchen. When we got there, loads of fluffy white towels for everyone had been provided!

Sorry op, not helpful.

Tartsamazeballs · 16/06/2018 20:27

Is Amazon prime now available in the area? They deliver in 2 hours.

littlemisscomper · 16/06/2018 20:28

What's the worst is if they state that towels are provided, and then leave you one barely bigger than a hand towel. You can cover your boobs OR your bum (if you're lucky enough to be a size 8 anyway!) but never both!

I have a toweling robe that doesn't take up too much room in the suitcase but is a lifesaver in these situations, so I always take that with me now.

ChristmasTablecloth · 16/06/2018 20:28

Roffle at using the dog towels! Proper laughed at that.

Littlebelina · 16/06/2018 20:29

I think I've stayed in cottages that have provided towels and some that haven't. Make a point of checking now (and paying extra if need be). Usually take swimming towels so at least we'd have those. For £1400 I would expect them but don't expect dishwasher tablets.

Always put a toilet roll in after a trip to Wales where absolutely none were provided and we had to go back out to the supermarket 20mjns away.

Maelstrop · 16/06/2018 20:37

Three logs? Are you honestly wanting a fire? Confused

bathildab · 16/06/2018 20:40

M&S are excellent at next day delivery for £3.99... agree - beach towels provide own in all but the fanciest properties burg bath and tea towels always provided!

SerenDippitty · 16/06/2018 20:44

we had the same in the lake district- a lovely luxury cottage with every amenity but no towels.

This happened to us also in Lake District! We had to go into Keswick to buy some. There was nothing in the online info to say towels weren’t provided and they always have been, in every cottage we’ve stayed in.

user1andonly · 16/06/2018 20:45

I might well be a mistake so do let the owners know.

Happened to us once, we managed with the swim towels we'd taken but then the owner accused us of taking their towels! We explained there were none and they said they'd check and we never heard from them again so hopefully they found them but it wasn't a great experience and I wish we'd said something on day one!

SnookieSnooks · 16/06/2018 20:49

As a regular swimmer who occasionally forgets her towel, I will tell you it’s amazing what you can do with a hairdryer and a sock!

FintyTin · 16/06/2018 20:50

I feel your pain, OP! We stayed in a cottage a few years ago - the details were clear that towels were provided. Not only were there no towels; but no curtain/blind in the bathroom (plain, unfrosted glass window overlooked by about 6 other cottages) and no wardrobe or chest-of-drawers anywhere to be seen to keep our clothes. Not a cheap place, either! We tried calling the owner, but got precisely no response. Eventually found a number for the cleaner who was less than helpful and informed us that “Oh, no, (owner) won’t speak to you! Didn’t you know that she’s a celebrity?”
We didn’t. We had to Google her and were still none the wiser.

Atthebottomofthesea · 16/06/2018 20:54

I have always had towels and linen provided. The only time I didn't was when we stopped in a Hoseasons caravan.

My parents stopped for years in the same cottage. There was a charge for linen but the owners gave it them free in lieu of the car parking permit they gave other guests. Over the years that perk stopped but they still gave Mum and Dad the linen as they knew they were on the train. Sad day when they sold it.

£1400, is normal for a week in the uk this time of year.

Not particularly, that is double what we are paying in August for a week. It is still pretty much at the top end of prices.

PolkerrisBeach · 16/06/2018 20:55

We stay in self catering places a lot. I would never expect to take towels - beach towels maybe but certainly not bath towels.

I hate stinginess on loo rolls and having to run out half way through the week to buy more because there;s only one supplied!

WindyWednesday · 16/06/2018 21:05

Well £1400 is normal for me. I’ve never seen anywhere for £700 for a week in August in the uk.

BackforGood · 16/06/2018 21:11

Like BadBunny, I've booked loads of cottages in the UK, and would only assume anything that was specifically mentioned, was provided. Anything I needed, I'd have asked beforehand, or taken with me.
Very small % of cottages provide towels, without you paying an extra fee / booking in advance.

Extravagant · 16/06/2018 21:13

Roll around naked on the sofa?
