Arrived at holiday cottage and no towels!

So we have arrived at a holiday cottage, we have stayed at many in the past and there are no towels. Although bizarre I know this happens ocassionally so went back to check the listing and there's no mention of this.

We are miles from anything so suggestions on a post card for showering tomorrow morning - the curtains?! Just kidding of course.

What's the most random thing you've found missing? Before this it was hand soap which I found ridiculous given the price.

This is why we are going back to the same holiday apartment for the third year running. We know what we are paying a lot for.

elephantscanring · 16/06/2018 22:35

Check your confirmation. Vast majority of holiday cottages in the UK provide towels.

birdladyfromhomealone · 16/06/2018 22:35

We rent out our villa in Spain and provide for each guest :- bath sheet, 1 hand towel, 1 pool towel, for each week plus bath mats and hand towels for each bathroom, tea towels and hand towels in kitchen, toilet rolls/hand wash in each loo, washing up liquid, cloths, kitchen roll, dish/washer powder.
I think your host has forgotten them . Before leaving a negative review please give them a chance to rectifie things.
A review on-line is there forever for something which may have been an after thought.

SabineUndine · 16/06/2018 22:39

I stayed in a holiday let in France where you had to provide your own towels AND sheets.

savingin2018welltryingto · 16/06/2018 22:39

So I saw the company was active on Facebook (probably an employee on their own) so messaged them on the off chance. They replied with 'towels are not provided for this property, we are sorry this was unclear from the description which will be updated on Monday'.

Usually the places state whether towels and linen are included in the price before booking or it might say towels included but bring swim/beach towels or sometimes says towels and linen can be hired for X amount or bring your own.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 16/06/2018 22:44

towels are not provided for this property

That is shocking poor for somewhere which describes itself as luxury Shock. They didn't even really apologise, it was more of a sorry you are not a mind reader type statement. I would certainly be raising it with them, no towels is really not acceptable.

HouseOfLynx · 16/06/2018 22:48

They replied with 'towels are not provided for this property, we are sorry this was unclear from the description which will be updated on Monday'.. That really bad. I would ask if they will cover cost.

Can you get a Tesco/Sainsbury's delivery from a big store? (Sainsbury's have nice big white ones for about £10 at the moment). Or maybe find a camping shop for those ultra compact absorbant ones that you could use again on holiday.

nancy75 · 16/06/2018 22:49

I have rented holiday houses all over the world, I always take our own beach towels, I have NEVER stayed anywhere that didn’t provide bath towels ( from budget to luxury homes, I would never expect to take my own towels!)

Tinkerbell89 · 16/06/2018 22:53

Stayed in a place with no towels or hand soaps again they didnt advise this on website when booking. Also appeared they never use to have a dishwasher or washing machine until more recently by the look of reviews. Also had no Wi-Fi in the middle of nowhere with bad signal. Usually holiday homes have Wi-Fi these days

Atthebottomofthesea · 16/06/2018 22:53

lipstick The one place we stay at which is lovely and wonderful but probably not in the luxury stakes, has the majority of that list. I would expect most of that as a bare minimum.

I'm quite shocked at what is seen as a luxury on this thread. Especially loo roll it seems.

carnivalisover · 16/06/2018 22:54

A cotton mattress protector would make a good emergency towel, you could run through a 15 min wash and tumble dry before using if you were a bit squeamish.

Ditto a bedsheet - use then wash, tumble. A faff but a solution.

Atthebottomofthesea · 16/06/2018 22:56

Tinker The place my parents stayed at didn't have a washer. There was a launderette around the corner.

I never expect hand soap though. Nice if it is there but I have a little travel bottle I take.

NambiBambi · 16/06/2018 23:02

We always go to holiday cottages for our holidays. We have been to some with amazing views, stunning surroundings. I think we have stayed once, for a long weekend, in one that provided towels.

If you were travelling abroad I would think you might expect them but not in the UK.

I love how there's a split between people who have never experience no towels and people who have never experienced towels, just shows there is no standard. I think we can all agree it should be clear on the listing though.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 16/06/2018 23:09

I’ve rented cottages in U.K. and Europe. I’ve seen a couple of listings that specified towels not included (so don’t book those). I’d say 99% DO include towels but most with pools or hot tubs do ask you to bring your own towels for those...which we are happy to do.

I do always take dishwasher and laundry tabs but usually find the previous people have left some and we always do the same..

Jaxhog · 16/06/2018 23:09

Stayed at hundreds of hotels and B&Bs. Always had towels. Some places have had towels I wouldn't wipe the cats bum with though. Mostly 'character' B&B farmhouses.

camelfinger · 16/06/2018 23:17

That’s very poor customer service, to admit that they haven’t been clear but not rectify it by sender by you over some towels. I spent a week somewhere once where they didn’t provide any bin bags, washing up liquid or toilet rolls but even they definitely provided towels!

Guiltypleasures001 · 16/06/2018 23:20

Is there a spare bed you could use the sheets from? Then let them dry

Itscolderoutside · 16/06/2018 23:21

Those thin quick drying towels from camping shops are great. If you're rural might be closer than supermarket. Very light and often come in little net bag. Even a king size one takes up no more space than a folded t shirt.. Normally about £12 for 2 in Sports Direct (not a rural option!Grin). I have a stock for air travel, school residential, brownie trips....and just 'in case'.

siwel123 · 16/06/2018 23:28

I would be writing a pretty annoyed review then. 1400k for no bloody towels. Rip off. And they didn't even make it clear

CrazyDaisy2018 · 16/06/2018 23:29

That is weird and hopefully just a mistake!

We take most things with us but never towels unless it specifically says they're not included (which is mostly in caravans).

Our last cottage I took WAY too much stuff as the cottage was fabulously stocked. Brand new dishwashing cloth and tea towel, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing capsules, milk, bread, bacon, butter, jam, biscuits, oramge juice, loads of loo roll, salt, pepper, vinegar, full canisters of tea, coffe and sugar and a full complement of towels! I know this is rare and we were very spoiled.

LapdanceShoeshine · 16/06/2018 23:33

I’m very amused by the number of comments here about loo rolls. We stayed in a lovely little cottage in Devon last month, which provided all the necessities including dishwasher & laundry supplies.

There were only 2 1/2 loo rolls - fine for 2 people for 1 week - but the guest book was hilarious. Every other entry for the first couple of years went on & on about the inadequate number of loo rolls. There is a small general store 100 yards away! I’d much rather provide my own loo rolls than my own towels Grin
