To be excited about the World Cup starting!

I know FIFA and Russia and whoever is involved is horrible in some way... But it's the actual World Cup. Mexico v South Korea suddenly becomes hugely important to my life! England have a likeable squad and manager. Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar. Spain sacking their manager yesterday.

It's so exciting isn't it!

Football can be a powerful, emotive, wonderful thing ali. One of the many many reasons I love it so much

alibongo5 · 17/06/2018 00:14

I wish there was a "like" button, but take it that I like your post bit. Yeah football is emotional!

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 17/06/2018 00:22

I'm a big football fan and am in football heaven Smile. Spain have been the most impressive so far in my opinion and looking forward to England, Brazil and Germany in the next couple of days.

I love the unpredictability of big tournaments and the shocks that can happen. Thought Iceland were great defensively today and not many gave them a chance against Messi and pals.

alibongo5 · 17/06/2018 00:25

Australia too were surprisingly good and deserved to get a draw against France. There has been less of a gap between teams then would have occurred in previous years. There are no easy games now for anyone really.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/06/2018 05:46

Has anyone noticed how friendly things have been between players and refs. Lots of smiles and back patting and reasonable discussion. Nice to see I think .

Oblomov18 · 17/06/2018 05:59

Not excited. Dh isn't either. Which is really odd because we both love football and adore the World Cup.

I think it's because there's been less build up, less talk about it this time. Many other true football fans have said the same to me.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/06/2018 06:14

It's been an incredibly low key build up, I agree.

ToffeeUp · 17/06/2018 10:56

Yes it is all very low key, hopefully a good result tomorrow will change that.

It is quite refreshing seeing the respect shown to players and referee, not too much play acting after being fouled either. VAR effect maybe?

ginghambox · 17/06/2018 11:43

not too much play acting
Raheem Stirling and Dele Alli haven't played yet Wink

BitOutOfPractice · 17/06/2018 11:48

I thought a couple of the Portuguese players laid it on a bit thick on Friday night. I find diving and play acting so embarrassing

TornFromTheInside · 17/06/2018 12:17

The play acting is embarrassing. If a player can be booked for what 'appears' to be an elbow (and rightly so) then the same should be true for a player who clutches his face having been kicked on the ankle.

Sportsmanship used to be something to be proud of. It's now all about 'gamesmanship' which ultimately is about cheating.

LapsedHumanist · 17/06/2018 16:51

I’m loving this Mexican team. And their supporters are just pure joy.

alibongo5 · 17/06/2018 17:18

And the Germans are very unlikeable. Diving and moaning all the time.

ilovesooty · 17/06/2018 17:19

I loved the Mexican national anthem roar!

user764329056 · 17/06/2018 17:22

Love all the matches but my heart broke at that poor bear Russia drove through the streets on the back of a truck forcing it to play a vuvezela, please make it stop, that poor animal

BonnieF · 17/06/2018 17:25

Vamos Mexico!

RoseWhiteTips · 17/06/2018 17:26

I think Germany are usually a magnificent team. Come on guys, make it a good day at the office! 🇩🇪

ToffeeUp · 17/06/2018 18:05

Well played Mexico.

BitchQueen90 · 17/06/2018 18:06

Pleased for Mexico today!

DoctorTwo · 17/06/2018 18:20

Well, that was unexpected. Now for Brazil vs Switzerland.

Littletreefrog · 17/06/2018 18:25

Come on Switzerland!

The80sweregreat · 17/06/2018 18:33

Germany were poor today , but they will bounce back im sure of it.
Will be nice to see Switzerland win.

araiwa · 17/06/2018 18:34

That was pisspoor germany

If mexico knew how to score on the counter it would have been really embarrassing

RoseWhiteTips · 17/06/2018 18:52

Ah well. There might be other chances. They certainly did not play like the Cup holders they are. Pfft

The80sweregreat · 17/06/2018 18:55

Last time I saw Brazil play they were thrashed by Germany!
