Disappointing to see Meghan morphing into Kate?

I've just seen the pictures of the Royal Family on the balcony for the Trooping of the Colour parade and it really seems like Meghan is being turned into a Kate clone, with the slightly odd old fashioned clothes and badly curled hair? I had hoped they palace would let her be herself.

Great dress and great hat on both Kate and Meghan. However, given the neckline/bare shoulders and style of hat, Meghan would have looked more chic with her hair in a low bun.
And no, she's not morphing into Kate. They're both following something called protocol and dressing appropriately.

ColoursOfRain · 09/06/2018 15:25

Why? It's her job. She's following her work dress code.

I'm sure she is just as free when she's off duty.

Who is the blonde lady to the right of the Duke of Kent ( his left hand side) ?
Is she related to Lady Helen Taylor who is on her father's right hand side.
Are the other two girls her daughters ?
Lady Helen epitomises style and class.

Afaik Lady Helen wasn't invited to Harry and Meghan's wedding.
Bit embarrassing her turning up on the balcony.
Don't you just hate when things like that happen Grin

Lweji · 09/06/2018 15:36

Did you expect jeans, or a low cut see through dress?

But I'll channel my inner Morticia and go with:

I'm MOTB age (DD13)

Did you get the three and the one the wrong way round?!

ColoursOfRain · 09/06/2018 15:40

Allowed to wear", well I think anything goes these days, don't you?

Yeah, because it wouldn't look odd if a lawyer wore flip flops and no one ever complains if a teacher wears a low cut strapped dress.

Jobs might not have a uniform code, like a nurse or a beautician or an air hostess, but most jobs have dress code expectations.

Charolais · 09/06/2018 15:51

She had the sense to know this event is not about her and for that she is winning my respect.

Huskylover1 · 09/06/2018 16:05

Well the Palace have changed Kate in to a totally different person, so yes, I expect the same will happen with Meghan.

diddl · 09/06/2018 16:11

I think that they should all wear smaller or no hats!

headinhands · 09/06/2018 16:18

Well duh. She's now got to dress to certain style. As is Kate. She looks gorgeous and happy.

cherrytrees123 · 09/06/2018 16:21

I just wonder why MM holds up her left hand to display her wedding ring and engagement ring in nearly EVERY photo? It seems to say 'look everyone I'm MARRIED'. It irritates me. I'm not sure an off the shoulder dress is appropriate, but i liked her dress and hat.

WanderingTrolley1 · 09/06/2018 16:22

She looks beautiful.

Why do people always need to pick her apart?!

specialsubject · 09/06/2018 16:24

just proves that however pretty you are, a fashion victim hat still looks silly. in both cases.

Wheretheresawill1 · 09/06/2018 16:25

I think they both look lovely

LifeBeginsAtGin · 09/06/2018 16:25

Kate looked fabulous, very much wife to the future monarch.Taking her place centre front.

Meghan paled into the background, flat hat and off the shoulder jacket.

Give it a few years and Meghan will spend more time back in the states. She's just not used to the British monarchy and it's ways, nor the British and their ways for that matter. She just doesn't fit in which is sad.

I think if she had been with Harry for a number of years and got used to the Palace machine then they'd stand more of a chance.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 09/06/2018 16:45

I don't want to compare the looks of two women, I don't think that's right.

They both look good.

Maybe Meghan should have worn her hair up, it didn't do much for her with the hat.

AbsolutelyBeginning · 09/06/2018 16:48

All the talk of MM going to change the Royal Family? Never gonna happen! She will have to be the one who changes or get out.

Clionba · 09/06/2018 16:48

I agree, it must be a shock to Meghan. She was dating Harry long distance, lived with him for a few months then into the royal scene. What a culture shock! She looks good imho, as does Kate.

expatinscotland · 09/06/2018 17:26

'Well the Palace have changed Kate in to a totally different person, '

No, they haven't. She was never into skimpy outfits or racy clothes, she was ever a Sloane Ranger.

Of course her role is different from Meghan's, she's married to the future monarch and mother to future monarchs. Harry's a distant spare who will spend his life waving and cutting ribbons for charidee whilst living in unbelievable opulence.

GladAllOver · 09/06/2018 17:31

We will have to wait and see. I reckon she will be far more able to stand up to the royals than Diana ever was.

expatinscotland · 09/06/2018 18:30

'I reckon she will be far more able to stand up to the royals than Diana ever was.'

Diana was only 20-years-old when she married ol' Chuck, had never had a boyfriend much less a marriage behind her like Meghan. She was also married to the heir, not some spare dropping further and further down the line.

RoseWhiteTips · 09/06/2018 18:33

ohfecknuts

Shoulders are revealing in a formal setting such as Trooping the Colour. Didn’t You know that?

And yes, they are regarded as revealing in other formal places too. In some churches abroad, in Crete for example, women are required to cover er their shoulders before entering. People can’t wear shorts etc etc . There are many requirements.

MM should be informed.

RoseWhiteTips · 09/06/2018 18:34

*Didn’t you...

lindalee3 · 09/06/2018 18:35

@MiniCooperLover

Disagree 100%. And we have only seen her a couple of times since she married Harry. And when we HAVE seen her, she has just dressed for the occasion. What do you suggest she should have worn? A mini skirt and a Nirvana t-shirt and a pair of glittery pink stilettos?!

FGS, any 'civilian' would have dressed like she did for a posh, formal event, even if they normally dress like a punk!
