Disappointing to see Meghan morphing into Kate?

I've just seen the pictures of the Royal Family on the balcony for the Trooping of the Colour parade and it really seems like Meghan is being turned into a Kate clone, with the slightly odd old fashioned clothes and badly curled hair? I had hoped they palace would let her be herself.

Disappointing to see Meghan morphing into Kate?

because mother of the brides tend to be in their 50,s 60,s?

megletthesecond · 09/06/2018 13:47

It's their uniform.
Personally I'd do the same.
I'm sure they wear regular civilian clothes off duty.

Clionba · 09/06/2018 13:50

Ah, so MOTB is less about style, more about age? I agree with above, I think it's a bit of a work uniform really.

Missingstreetlife · 09/06/2018 13:51

So much for feminism and being radical. Using your wedding as a swan song a bit of a giveaway
More worried about ppl who have no clothes, can't feed themselves

kingseat2016 · 09/06/2018 13:54

Poor girl can’t win. In fact neither of them can. I find it sad with threads constantly finding fault or something negative to say.

WittyJack · 09/06/2018 13:54

Jenny - wow, imagine the pressure of being MM's stylist!! Not a job I would want (or MM's, come to that).

They're both beautiful and slim. They'd look lovely "in a bikini in Wigan" (showing my age!)

LightAsTheBreeze · 09/06/2018 13:55

it is just a work uniform as PPs have said, it's a bit like wearing those Next and M&S black trousers that everyone seems to wear to work, people don't choose them its just appropriate for the office.

humdiddlydoo · 09/06/2018 13:55

'Palace influence'- no shit Sherlock, what did you think would happen after she married into the royal family?

Mercurial123 · 09/06/2018 13:56

I can't get upset about it or have any kind of opinion..... MM knew what she was signing up for and maybe she likes her outfit?!

happytobemrsg · 09/06/2018 13:56

I think she dressed appropriately for the occasion

expatinscotland · 09/06/2018 13:57

'Her and Harry are too close to the top job. '

Only until George, Charlotte and Louis (and whatever other children Wiliam and Kate have, and why not, Kate's even younger than Meghan) get a bit older.

But he's 6th in line already, possibly to be bumped down even more in a couple of years if Kate and Wills go for no. 4.

EmNetta · 09/06/2018 14:01

Most females would look frumpy and dumpy next to Kate, and I think MM's style is unfortunate this time, including dress, hat and hair.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 09/06/2018 14:02

I think she's sticking to her own style and just tweaking it for the dress code. She's still going for a more tailored look with the 'waistcoat style' top with the big buttons. Very much in keeping with her usual style in my opinion.

Queenoftheblitz · 09/06/2018 14:03

They both play safe at these events in order not to upstage the Queen.
Diana learnt the hard way when she wore an updo at one of the queen's events and it was front page news. Queenie was furious apparently.
When they're out on their own events, they can glam it up.

HeyDolly · 09/06/2018 14:04

No matter what she wore there would always be a core of people with their claws out ready to criticise.

HyacinthsBucket70 · 09/06/2018 14:04

It's only their clothes for official functions. Kate dresses very differently off duty and so does Meghan I would imagine.

They have to be seen to follow protocol and are heavily guided with their formal outfits. All part of joining the firm, which both ladies have done so very willingly.

noeffingidea · 09/06/2018 14:05

They're formally dressed as a mark of respect. You don't get much more formal than the trooping of the colour as an event as it's a state event.
Hopefully she can dress slightly more relaxed when she's visiting hospitals, charity events, etc.

Clarioncall · 09/06/2018 14:06

Perhaps Meghan is erring on the side of caution and doing her best to fit in with the family she has married into, which is always hard but imagine doing it with the whole world watching?

LucheroTena · 09/06/2018 14:08

MOTB x 2.

You can dress conservatively (ie covered up) without needing to resort to Phase Eight frumpdom. Might also look better without caked on corpse makeup.

AuntieStella · 09/06/2018 14:12

"because mother of the brides tend to be in their 50,s 60,s?"

Ageism doesn't help. Yes, MOTB are old enough to have adult DC. But that tells us precisely nothing about their preferred style (or lack thereof)

LightAsTheBreeze · 09/06/2018 14:12

Looking at the photos of everyone else they both look very appropriate for the event. The children are also in frilly type dresses of the same ilk

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/06/2018 14:16

Grin Right next to each other in the 'trending' box, this thread complaining that Meghan is not 'Meghan' enough and another thread complaining that she is inappropriately too 'Meghan' and not royal enough. Both about the exact same outfit too. Grin

Pompom42 · 09/06/2018 14:17

I think she looks very nice. I like the colour on her. And it's off the shoulder slightly and she looks better than Kate. Kate's dress is definitely one for the older lady.

TemptressofWaikiki · 09/06/2018 14:18

wanders in on thread, yawns, scratches arse, wanders off again

TheVanguardSix · 09/06/2018 14:21

What on earth were you expecting, OP? She was never going to arrive at the palace gates with a bag full o' the Santa Ana easy-breezy winds of change.
That was/is never going to happen.
They're attending the Trooping of the Colour parade. What, pray tell, did you expect? Confused
