Petrol station incident - Who was BU??

BasilFaulty · 06/06/2018 17:04

So just got home from work and on my way back had to stop for petrol.

I pull up at the petrol station, there's two cars at the pumps I want to be at so I wait for one of them to go.

The first one goes (ie the one further away from me) and I drive around the second car that was still there and the blokes still pumping.

I pull in front of his car to the pump and reverse a bit to get it level.

Plenty of room for him to get out still, I'd pretty much just replaced the car that had just left.

So I start fuelling my car, he's now got in his car and pulls up alongside me and goes 'Patience is a virtue you know you BINT'

To which I replied 'Oh, go away' Blush

He looked so shocked!! He couldn't believe I'd answered him back. He obviously thought about saying more but then just slunk off and as he was pulling out he blared his horn at me Smile

When you're waiting for a pump to become free at petrol station do you wait for the pump nearest to you to become free or do you pull in front of necessary??

Surely if everyone always waited if would cause unnecessary queues?

WIBU??

And if you hadn't pulled round him to the free pump, I guess somebody behind you would be beeping at you coz you hadn't.

Kickassbitch · 06/06/2018 17:51

I work in a petrol station, trust me there is no right and wrong! I have people coming in to pay complaining like the bloke in the op, people complaining that the car behind is waiting, why don't they pull round the other side, just like op did. I get people complaining well I always come in that way and they have come in the other way and vise versa.
We have a forecourt of a reasonable size some cars can get past others can't, the pumps stretch for smaller cars but not the bigger ones and there is no one way system, so customers just need to use a little commonsense, but truthfully you just can't win, there's always a customer who things the other is wrong despite them not doing anything wrong.

My opinion on this post, it's just like being at work and I had to just laugh at it! Sorry 😁

Tara12 · 06/06/2018 17:55

It would be rude if he couldn't get out... but he could.
Obviously.

changemyname1 · 06/06/2018 17:55

He was BVU, and had he stopped to say something to me he would have seen me stick my tongue out, blow a raspberry and done a hand signal it's my favourite response to dicks at the moment.

Fluffyears · 06/06/2018 17:55

I always do this. I hate trying to pull the hose around my car so aleaydbtry to get in with the pump on the same side as fuel cap.

The80sweregreat · 06/06/2018 17:56

Ive tried the ‘pull the hose over to the tank ‘ and it did not go well. Not all are extra long hoses , so I tend to wait till I’m the right side for my car. Sometimes you have to sit it out!

Bibesia · 06/06/2018 17:56

There was nothing impatient about what you did, it was just common sense. Why block up the forecourt queuing when there is a perfectly good pump available and you can access it without obstructing other people in any way? It's pretty obvious that this pathetic specimen somehow felt his iffy masculinity was being challenged.

LakieLady · 06/06/2018 17:58

I'm afraid I have stolen my friend's all-purpose riposte to any sexist insult: "Better to have a cunt than to be one". Always said in a plummy voice with a sweet smile, naturally.

He was an arsehole.

Rhiannon13 · 06/06/2018 17:59

Small man syndrome? Was he driving a big black car..?

SoddingUnicorns · 06/06/2018 18:05

@LakieLady I shall be using your friend’s riposte in future Grin that’s a belter of a response!

FairfaxAikman · 06/06/2018 18:09

I suppose the inability to judge gaps is what happens when you've spent your life trying to convince women that 6cm is 12 inches.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 06/06/2018 18:10

gryffen 😂🤣⭐️

You didn’t do anything wrong. There would be a riot if you didn’t do that here!

I was less impressed by the twat that came in the out, pulled in front of me (despite me clearly just finishing) filled his tank, then fucked about getting a ton of shopping...bloody annoying when I’d paid at the pump and was in a hurry. Twat.

Bahhhhhumbug · 06/06/2018 18:12

I fill up both sides and l drive an SUV the hose just goes over the spare wheel a d have never had it not reach but witness large queues regularly waiting for RH side pumps.
But anyway back on the subject l will drive round someone if there's room and unless they've nearly finished or there's no one behind me then l don't bother
I also after filling up will move my car up sometimes if the pump in front is empty before going in paying so the person behind can just pull up easily to that pump.
This does tend to make the garage staff a bit twitchy though as they probably think l'm driving off!!

peasooper · 06/06/2018 18:22

I would only pull in front if there really was lots of room and manouvering was easy rather than just possible but with difficulty, and the other queues were really long or I was in a particular hurry.

Have had some wankers block me in though where there was clearly no room to get out eg parking spaces alongside.

But it sounds like there was no problem with space, and he was just being a complete bastard, and especially for calling you that name... which I hate more than any other for some reason, even cunt!?!

Good for you for answering back wihout rising to it.

The80sweregreat · 06/06/2018 18:24

Some forecourts are just too small imho and not very well thought out either.

VelvetSpoon · 06/06/2018 18:31

You were remarkably restrained OP.

I'd have told him to go fuck himself. I probably need to work on my anger when driving Blush

CryogenicMedic · 06/06/2018 18:34

I thought everyone did what you did OP. I do it... it's common sense to prevent queues that can form into the road and cause obstructions to moving traffic. I live in a very congested town where 95% of petrol stations are by busy roads and there isn't much room for queuing, so if we didn't drive round to occupy the front pump if it becomes free first, then that's the situation we'd be in on a daily basis! It would be mayhem.

He sounds like an utter pillock.

I once had a guy in town give me a tirade of abuse. He was right up my arse while I was pushing my sleeping DS in his pram. This guy wanted to come past me to the left hand side, but just as he did I turned left to head for a shop I needed. I hadn't known he was so far up my arse until I made my left turn and NEARLY walked into him with the pram. He instantly went on a nasty foul-mouthed rant with "you should learn to fucking drive that bastard thing you stupid fucking cunt!!"

I calmly but assertively explained to him that prams don't come with rear view or wing mirrors, and asked why he was up my arse when there'd been plenty of room to pass me without getting so bloody close. "Oh shut the fuck up you stupid cow!!" he continued. 6 month old DS was fast asleep so I took the opportunity to crank it up to this POS's level and gave him some loud sweary abuse of my own. Not my usual style and I'm not proud, but it made the little weasel scuttle off with his tail between his legs still muttering under his breath that I was a cunt! Grin

BakedBeans47 · 06/06/2018 18:37

The only thing that was U was not telling the twat to go fuck himself.

What a melt.

RedPanda2 · 06/06/2018 18:39

Well done for talking back. Unfortunately some men just hate women and love to tell them so at any opportunity

MrsLupo · 06/06/2018 18:49

If patience is such a fucking virtue why didn't he feel it necessary to exercise any?

YANBU. Of course.

viques · 06/06/2018 18:51

This is why I use the pay at the pump pumps, they are nearly always empty at my local garage, mostly because the Neanderthals around my way (and I use the word advisedly, they really are knuckle dragging men with centuries of privilege hard wired into their psyche) can't manage putting their own card into a machine and remembering four digits.

GabsAlot · 06/06/2018 18:54

no ynbu-everyone pulls in front if theres enough room

only place i dont do it is my local tesco very narrow lanes but someone actually went round me when the other lane was free and so blocked me in

not alot u can do though

The80sweregreat · 06/06/2018 18:55

Bit harsh about the pay at the pumps with the credit cards! I have used this once or twice for quickness and it’s worked well - other times there’s been a problem or a glitch of some kind and it’s all a faff. I usually prefer to go in the kiosk in order to keep people in jobs too. Enough AI as it is taking people’s livihoods.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 06/06/2018 19:02

Pay at the pumps are ace when you have small children with you and no other adult.

The80sweregreat · 06/06/2018 19:07

yes, i didnt think of the kiddies in the car bit though, must be a god send doing it that way at the pumps rather than dragging babies in and out of the car or risking leaving an older child in the car for five minutes ( or longer sometimes) at these big places on their own.

its all a headache getting the car filled up.
