Petrol station incident - Who was BU??

BasilFaulty · 06/06/2018 17:04

So just got home from work and on my way back had to stop for petrol.

I pull up at the petrol station, there's two cars at the pumps I want to be at so I wait for one of them to go.

The first one goes (ie the one further away from me) and I drive around the second car that was still there and the blokes still pumping.

I pull in front of his car to the pump and reverse a bit to get it level.

Plenty of room for him to get out still, I'd pretty much just replaced the car that had just left.

So I start fuelling my car, he's now got in his car and pulls up alongside me and goes 'Patience is a virtue you know you BINT'

To which I replied 'Oh, go away' Blush

He looked so shocked!! He couldn't believe I'd answered him back. He obviously thought about saying more but then just slunk off and as he was pulling out he blared his horn at me Smile

When you're waiting for a pump to become free at petrol station do you wait for the pump nearest to you to become free or do you pull in front of necessary??

Surely if everyone always waited if would cause unnecessary queues?

WIBU??

He was a twat, I think you were very restrained to say "go away".

Racecardriver · 06/06/2018 17:33

Mind blown. Will they fit around really wide cars? Asking fir a friend, I swear I'm not too fat to drive a normal width car.

GaryBaldyBiscuit · 06/06/2018 17:33

He’s an angry little cock nostril.
Oh that really made me laugh! But back to the question, op ywnbu.

e1y1 · 06/06/2018 17:33

No yanbu at all.

He was a dick. Queues at pumps round here would be a mile bloody long if everyone waited.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/06/2018 17:33

And does it matter? Every car driver chooses for themselves whether they want to use both sides or not.

DH does, unless he is driving his own car. Then he won't as the hose rubs on the spoiler. I do now, but never with my old car, as the hoses never really did reach comfortably.

There's no law, and it doesn't really make you a better or worse driver!

OracleofDelphi · 06/06/2018 17:33

I have been called a Bint a few times by men... I like to remind them it simply means girl or daughter in Arabic and as I am neither a girl (being 40+) or their daughter its probably not the adjective they were looking for..... but I am quite argumentative and pedantic!

Turquoise123 · 06/06/2018 17:34

well done you - he was rude, incorrect and sounds like a bully.

I like " oh go away" it's very clear but not rude/sweary - well played.

SoddingUnicorns · 06/06/2018 17:34

OP you weren’t wrong to use the pump in front and I am very impressed that you were so restrained! He’d have got a sweary mouthful back from me!

itstimeforanamechange · 06/06/2018 17:34

I only use pumps which are on the right side for my car. Most of them don't stretch despite protestations on MN to the contrary, and the angle is all wrong.

OP you didn't do anything wrong, I'd have done the same.

It would also be good if people, when they've finished, would move off smartish instead of faffing around. Get in, belt up, and go.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/06/2018 17:35

Race If you look for 'long hose/use both sides' signs they might... but it might be tight, as it was in my old car.

diddl · 06/06/2018 17:35

Some people are just so strange, aren't they?

So what you did had absolutely no impact on him whatsoever, but he had to comment!

If you had waited for his place he likely would have made a sarcastic comment-which included the word bintHmm

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 06/06/2018 17:36

YWNBU in any of your actions.

I had similar a couple of weeks ago and got a tut from a bloke who apparently couldn’t get his car around mine. I mean, he managed it in the end, probably thought he was making some kind of point.

The point being he can’t drive his car unless he has 3 feet of clearance either side Hmm

bettytaghetti · 06/06/2018 17:36

Racecardriver clearly you're used to someone else filling up your car at a pitstop, given your name! Lots of petrol stations have signs saying extra long hose so you can fill up from either side and not have to wait.

polsha · 06/06/2018 17:37

Mind blown. Will they fit around really wide cars?

Yes! I have never been to a station where I couldn't do this. Car is a VW Sharan so no small thing. Also do it with works van which is a Peugeot partner although it is smaller than the Sharan. You just pull up so you are close to the pump and slightly forward of it so the hose doesn't have to stretch round the actual car boot

BewareOfDragons · 06/06/2018 17:37

He was a knob. Probably can't drive well enough to do the same sensible manoeuvre himself when he's waiting for an empty pump and has to wait for the rear driver to move...

You did the right thing. Maddening when people sit there and not fill empty pumping spaces when they're available and the car behind them clearly isn't ready to go.

supersop60 · 06/06/2018 17:38

YWNBU. I always pull in front.

polsha · 06/06/2018 17:38

Lots of petrol stations have signs saying extra long hose so you can fill up from either side and not have to wait.

And the hoses are he same size as always. They put signs up because so many people sit back and only use one side Grin

SoddingUnicorns · 06/06/2018 17:38

It doesn’t reach round our car, but then ours is a ridiculously massive pickup truck thing (work vehicle for DP)

gryffen · 06/06/2018 17:38

He was defo being unreasonable.

Last person I had doing that to me called me a "fat retarded cow" before nearly hitting me when passing me in forecourt.

Working the doors that night and he (doesn't recognise me due to uniform) tries to walk past me so I stop him and ask for ID (standard as ticket event).

He mouths off, I laugh and then he clicks who I am - he got barred that night for mouthing off but also being arrogant SOB.

Tried to get me fired for it by whining to my colleague but I explained the drama and he got a further barring 🤣🤣

bettytaghetti · 06/06/2018 17:39

Also maddening when they go into pay and do their weekly shop at the same time, grrr!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 06/06/2018 17:39

If he'd have finished before the previous person he would have had to drive round them anyway.

Sounds like a twat just taking his mood out on someone.

MaryPeary · 06/06/2018 17:40

It's normal to go in front on that situation, otherwise it takes much longer to get everyone in the queue filled up. There's no rational reason not to do this unless he wouldn't be able to get past.

He's obviously an arse who wanted a chance to belittle a woman. What a twat.

bettytaghetti · 06/06/2018 17:40

Brilliant example of karma gryffen!

Flyme21 · 06/06/2018 17:42

If you waited politely at our local Morrison's you'd get lynched. It's cheap fuel and always busy, so you try to get in and out smartish.

Iluvthe80s · 06/06/2018 17:45

Yanbu he is well done for answering back. I'd do the same pull into empty spot so long as car behind could get out
