Been on the Atkins for 6 weeks and lost lots of weight. Saturday was my birthday and so I decided to treat myself to a gin and slim - no carbs! Went to the bar and was given a gin and fever tree refreshingly light so I decided to check the label. 4g of carbs - that's a third of my daily allowance. I asked for another slimline tonic - anything all the others have 0 calories and 0 carbs but no - only fever tree. It's not a slimline tonic people scrap the fever tree - you need to stock something else

Doing a bit more digging, 'light' and 'lite' do have legal definitions and they require that the product has at least 30% less of the nutrition element than the full version, either sugar or fat, and the reduction must be stated on the label. 'Low' also has a legal definition for fat and sugar, for the latter it means no more than 2.5g sugar per 100mls liquid. Which is why Fevertree use light/lighter and not low sugar in their labelling.

'Slimline' is not a legal term. Neither it nor any of the above terms have ever meant zero. I'm sorry you were disappointed this time but it is absolutely not the pubs fault.

I prefer Schweppes slimline, I’ve tried all the FeverTree versions, and I dont like them any better than supermarket generic ones.

The mini cans of slimline Schweppes work best for us..
Of course we dont go out much ! (At all )

I’m pretty sure diet cola has no legal definition either... yet they will tell you it’s diet Pepsi if that’s what they stock, but not with tonic.

I guess that if you have only ever had slimline then anything else won't taste as nice because you are used to the taste. IMO any drink with artificial sweeteners has a nasty, sickly aftertaste. And this isn't being snobby. I just don't like the taste.
