I think they are ugly and make women/girls look ridiculous. AIBU?

What's your definition of 'high'? To me, anything under 4 inches is a low heel.

KittenBeast · 02/06/2018 15:21

Glazedover I remember that story, and yes, it is wrong, people should be allowed to wear what they want, within reason, but I LIKE wearing heels, I can walk in them and I especially like how good they make my legs look, but I suppose that's because I'm subconsciously desperate to attract men. Hmm

MaterialReality · 02/06/2018 15:21

It is still a choice, though.

foodiefils might think I look stupid in my flats, and I might think she looks daft in her heels. So what?

I'm also inclined to say that any event which required I wear heels is one I'd consider incredibly regressive and wouldn't be attending. I'm not a celebrity though, so it's unlikely to come up.

CaptainCabinets · 02/06/2018 15:25

Sooooo don’t wear them. HTH

Over two inches

SenecaFalls · 02/06/2018 15:29

Yes, over 2 inches. Especially if it's a skinny heel.

Mishappening · 02/06/2018 15:30

YANBU - they cause pain and deformity (to spine as well as feet) for nothing - because they look grotesque.

Men like them. They make women thrust out their pubic area.

Are we prepared to do this to ourselves for men to ogle at?

Not me; that's for sure.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/06/2018 15:32

"If some daft women want to hobble their feet in painful and damaging shoes that they can barely walk in, in order to please men, that’s their choice. Rather like Victorian whalebone corsets, or foot binding- it’s a useful identifier for idiots who have sold out to the patriarchy!

Lol. Bitter and Envious much?"

Why would someone be envious of those hobbling about?

well I agree with you personally... but each to their own, some women love them and fair play to them!!
I feel ridiculous in them, feel like im on show in a weird way... like here 'i present to you, this woman for your viewing pleasure'

Pa1oma · 02/06/2018 15:36

I rarely wear flat shoes, unless its trainers. Even if it's just a wedge sandal or boot with maybe a 2 inch heel. I don't notice that kind of heel tbh. If I'm wearing proper heels on a night out, I just make sure I get dropped off and collected from right outside wherever we're going Grin

Greenteandchives · 02/06/2018 15:36

I love my heels. I don’t wear them very often though.
I once walked past a room full of women having a lesson in how to walk in heels properly. I had to stop and watch for a while to make sure that was what they were doing. It was in Bath.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/06/2018 15:37

"When I wear heels it's got absolutely nothing to do with 'pleasing men'"

Wearing heels is absolutely to do with pleasing men. You're not going to pretend they're more comfortable than trainers are you? They're popular because of what they do to the female form.

Thehop · 02/06/2018 15:37

I think they look so glamorous.

Not me, though, they make me look like a fat old bird that can’t walk in heels...gutted

Gwenhwyfar · 02/06/2018 15:38

"If I'm wearing proper heels on a night out, I just make sure I get dropped off and collected from right outside wherever we're going"

So you agree that they reduce your mobility.

EdWinchester · 02/06/2018 15:39

I don't wear heels to please my man.

He hates it when I do as I am then the same height or taller than him Grin

maxthemartian · 02/06/2018 15:40

YANBU I never where them. It seems like an insane thing to do.
And if they were that great then men would wear them.

maxthemartian · 02/06/2018 15:40

Wear not where ffs.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/06/2018 15:41

"I don't wear heels to please my man."

Pleasing men isn't necessarily one particular man, is it?

KittenBeast · 02/06/2018 15:41

or because we live in a society that deems long slim, non muscular legs and a little tip toe walk as the most attractive for women and you subscribe to that ideal

My legs are very long, I'm sorry, I can't help that, they're also lean and muscular because I work out a lot. I just happen to enjoy how they look when I (very occasionally) wear heels. I don't tiptoe around in them either, like I said, I can walk in heels. It's good to feel good about yourself sometimes. If that offends you, I'm sorry.

timeisnotaline · 02/06/2018 15:46

De gustibus non disputandem...

whywontteenswearcoats · 02/06/2018 15:46

Each to their own, although I saw someone in white stilettos earlier and while DD keeps telling me the 80s are back in a big way, that's is something that should definitely be left there

ggirl · 02/06/2018 15:46

I did feel sorry for the women at the royal wedding having to totter to the church with the whole world watching them.

user546425732 · 02/06/2018 15:48

ggirl, I did feel sorry for the women at the royal wedding having to totter to the church with the whole world watching them.

They didn't have to though, they chose to wear high heels.

JacquesHammer · 02/06/2018 15:49

For those of us who have had tendon injuries they might well be Grin if mine are feeling tight i potter around the house in them.

Out of the house I wear NR boots, bikers or trainer style pumps
