I think they are ugly and make women/girls look ridiculous. AIBU?

Many women have damaged foot bones, eg squashed smaller toes, from tight footwear in childhood and teens. shoes designed for and marketed to girls and young women are less sturdy and provide less room for toes than boys’/young mens’. That’s before we even make footwear choices as adults.

It’s not just feet that are damaged, it’s ankle, knee and hip joints, muscles, backs.

.

Loopytiles · 03/06/2018 22:01

By heels, that is.

LassWiADelicateAir · 03/06/2018 22:51

Is rampant hyperbole (aka downright nonsense) supposed to aid the conscienceness raising?

but it was horrible to see poor meghan lumbering up the steps at windsor due to awful shoes

She glided along.

elegant shoes with a one inch heel are not available to buy, but surely she could have had some made?

Really? Does the poster who said ^^ this live in a cave on the Outer Hebrides with no internet access? Because I can't think otherwise how it would be impossible to find elegant flat shoes.

Heels are the accepted formal evening footwear for women. You would have to go against perceived values and expectations not to wear them

Again I can only assume the poster who said this doesn't get out much either.

"Not only can you find perfectly comfortable heels"

Ha ha ha ha ha.

ferrier · 03/06/2018 23:28

Well, it's because adult women have hair on their bodies. So how can removing a thing that all women have make you feel more like a female person? Doesn't make sense.

Because relative to men, we have vanishingly little hair. None on our faces, none on our backs, none on our chests or arms, some of us have virtually none on our legs too.
The only places we have visible hair is armpits, groin and legs.
Contrast with most men and there is a massive difference.

(And yes I am aware that we have very fine hair all over our bodies but it's not visible whereas men's is.)

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 03/06/2018 23:31

I hope they are dying a death
If you commute now no one wears them
Shoes shops are full of flats mainly compared to 5 odd years ago

I don’t mind a wedge or mid heel time to time but happily people rarely wear the high ones anymore

ferrier · 03/06/2018 23:33

Ha ha ha ha ha.

Maybe you can't but I have plenty of pairs that are very comfortable and I can stand in all night long. My feet last a whole lot longer than my back, and before anyone suggests that my back problems are caused by my heels, I've only started wearing heels more than about once every 6 months in the last 5-10 years (still only wear them on nights out so maximum twice a month or so) whereas my back issues date back to around 1990.

CantankerousCamel · 03/06/2018 23:54

ferrier

Speak for yourself. I have visible hair on my arms. Stomach, legs, armpits and groin.

There is nothing feminine about removing it. There is nothing sexy about stubble.

Women’s hair is naturally thinner anyway. Really a bit overkill to shave it all off

ferrier · 04/06/2018 00:23

Stubble is very sexy on men Grin
I don't have any because I don't find it sexy on me.

CantankerousCamel · 04/06/2018 02:58

Right so

Women hair = ugly
Man hair = sexy

Women are required to keep an unnatural state of smoothness at all times, regardless of cost to skin and body or they are unclean/dirty/ugly/don’t give a shit about themselves

Men can have no hair long hair or stubble, unless it’s on their bodies and then no hair like hairless women.

Fucking hell I am so glad I don’t buy into this crap

On the sexy or not - for me - yes (Although I wouldn't say hair is ugly on women, only that I prefer to be mostly smooth).

As to requirements - each to their own. Do whatever pleases you. Or choose to please your partner. It's your choice. You don't have to buy into societal 'norms' if you don't want to.

SabineUndine · 04/06/2018 06:50

I worked in a shoe shop on Saturdays in my teens. Almost every woman over the age of 50 that I served had bunions. I like the way high heels look but I won’t wear them.

Xenia · 04/06/2018 13:03

Each to their own, indeed. I have still not decided whether to shave my wonderful leg fur for the summer holiday and I have a week to go. May be I should canvas all the children.

Xenia · 04/06/2018 13:03

...canvass ...

pigmcpigface · 04/06/2018 13:08

I used to wear heels all the time when I was 4 stone lighter than I am today. It was easy to walk and even run in them. These days, I have to wear flats because I find walking in them much harder. I don't know if this is the weight I've put on, or the fact that I'm less fit/strong.

TheGreatestHo · 04/06/2018 13:10

That's your opinion. My highest heels are 9 inch. They bring me utter joy. :)

specialsubject · 04/06/2018 13:14

9 inches??? my feet are only a little longer than that! unless you are a pituitary giant you must be en pointe when wearing those. Which is apparently painful.

CountFosco · 04/06/2018 13:24

9 inch heels? My feet aren't even 9 inches!

TheGreatestHo · 04/06/2018 14:16

Not at all, they have a platform so its not "as" bad as it sounds.

MrMeSeeks · 04/06/2018 14:21

All my shoes are comfortable. I wear them 12 hours or more a day when i’m at work, and they’re not uncomfortable.
If you’re heels are then you’re clearly buying the wrong ones.

I love platform shoes! My trainer shoes are my favourite when im not working. Smile

That really!

I know one day I'll be too old to have this much fun in them so I'll enjoy it while it lasts!

specialsubject · 04/06/2018 14:28

well I never.

is all I am going to say.

rosesandflowers · 04/06/2018 15:28

Yes, you can. It helps to buy more expensive, quality heels I find. I'll go to Primark for a sandal, but for heels get something you're sure is well made.

Otherwise they'll cause problems the previous posters have mentioned.
