I think they are ugly and make women/girls look ridiculous. AIBU?

Foot cleavage. Ewwww.

I'm with you OP - never understood this desire to hobble oneself. What, never be able to run for a train/bus/dash out of the office and run to avoid the rain? Or what? Carry a pair of trainers that one can walk in?

Got off a train once with a colleague in high heels. The walk to the client's was less than half a mile. "Shall we get a cab? I'm afraid I can't walk in these heels."

Daftness, utter daftness

BetterEatCheese · 02/06/2018 14:16

I can't bear wearing them but don't think they look odd unless the wearer can't walk in them. YABU

yanbu

MasonJar · 02/06/2018 14:17

YABU. I love the look of high heels. Make an outfit look dressy and legs longer. But only if worn by someone who knows how to walk in them.
They look ridiculous on a woman who has to take tiny teetering steps and looks like she's about to fall over.
Sadly I'd be in this category if I ever wore them. Which I don't.

noeffingidea · 02/06/2018 14:18

Some high heels look beautiful. Some women look good in them. I don't wear them myself, but I don't care if others do, as long as it's their choice and not imposed on them by others. YABU.

I think most of the time they look shit. Most people can't walk in them and they just look silly and disabling

Doofenschmirtz · 02/06/2018 14:19

I've never worn them in my life but each to their own.

JacquesHammer · 02/06/2018 14:20

That’s just stupid though.

I have a number of pairs of block heels I’ll wear to walk in regularly because they’re more comfortable for dicky Achilles than flat shoes.

Duchessgummybuns · 02/06/2018 14:21

Anyone would think different people have different preferences 🤔

e1y1 · 02/06/2018 14:21

YABU, some can look nice: as long as they fit well (ie not the ones with squished up feet/skin in the front or the open backed ones where the heel hangs over and the open toe ones where the pinky is sticking out) and the wearer can walk well in them.

ilovechocolates · 02/06/2018 14:22

Depends on ur definition of high heels. To me anything higher than 3" is high cos that's the highest I can walk in.

Mrscog · 02/06/2018 14:24

I think most heels up to about 10cm look lovely.

I agree that people wearing anything that makes them ‘totter’ or unable to walk at a normal pace for a few hundred metres looks ridiculous.

Lacucuracha · 02/06/2018 14:24

Some women do look ridiculous in them, and it's nothing to do with their height or weight, they either haven't chosen well or just don't the gait for them.

goose1964 · 02/06/2018 14:25

Up to a certain height they look OK but 4 or 5 inches are ridiculous . I've just spent the last 10 years in flats due to a hip issue. The main problem with flats is that they're not usually pretty more functional.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 02/06/2018 14:29

I have better things to do with my time than judging other women's choice of footwear. After all, there is no reason who anyone should choose shoes based on what I like, since I am not the person who will have to wear them.
I don't wear heels myself because most of them hurt my feet and they aren't practical for my everyday life, but it's hardly shocking that other women make other choices.

I can’t wear them but my legs would look better if I could!
I admire people that can.

Moleskinediary · 02/06/2018 14:30

Rather like Victorian whalebone corsets, or foot binding- it’s a useful identifier for idiots who have sold out to the patriarchy!

Feet were bound from early childhood- no choice- so not selling out.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 02/06/2018 14:32

I love them, think they look great - I love heels, wedges and platforms. Not ridiculously high though - no more than 4 inches.
I struggle with flat shoes (apart from trainers and walking boots) and dislike those little ballet pump things, although some girls look lovely in them - they just don't work for me. Think it's a bit mean to say girls/ woman look ugly in heels.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 02/06/2018 14:32

How high are we talking?

Bluntness100 · 02/06/2018 14:32

We must look taller more slender longer limbed to be accepted as beautiful. We must deform our feet and limit our ability to walk any distance. Society says it's attractive but for women only

Well that tells us a lot about you doesn't it? Because I think all women are beautiful in their own way, irrelevant of what shoes they wear. The thought process someone must wear heels to appear beautiful is bewildering.

And quite frankly i chose to wear high heels now and again, I can walk just fine in them and for just as far as I can in flats and my feet aren't deformed either. You're lack of ability is not everyone else's.

Soyeah, I think uou told us more about you than you intended there.

AfterSchoolWorry · 02/06/2018 14:33

To me they look nice on women with petite feet, not so great on my size 7 feet. Also I'm 5'6 and not particularly good-looking so there's not much point.

SenecaFalls · 02/06/2018 14:33

To each her own, I always say, but I did notice how oddly many of the women were walking at the recent royal wedding. And holding on to their male escorts. I think it was the shoes.
