To hate FaceTime

Tabathatwitchett · 01/06/2018 21:04

I know I'm a bit of a Luddite and I don't much go for technology but I'm wondering if I'm the only one who hates FaceTime. I hate the invasion into my privacy- the fact that one minute I'm sat on the sofa chilling and the next, I've effectively got unannounced visitors.

If you FaceTime me I won't answer unless you have warned me in advance. However my dh ALWAYS answers and proceeds to point the bloody thing at me/us. In the past this has included the kids getting ready for the bath, me wearing my pjs at the end of a long day.

I have told him repeatedly to fuck off stop doing this but he doesn't get it at all.
Mumsnetters- tell me I'm not being unreasonable in wanting to flushing his fucking phone down the loo if he does it again....

you are so NBU

DuchyDuke · 01/06/2018 21:07

Depends who’s facetiming. If it’s his family then no bother.

Tabathatwitchett · 01/06/2018 21:08

It's his family who are incredibly judgemental about the state of the house when they visit (and believe me it is v tidy considering young children live here).

Get your own back when he's having a dump or snoring

Tabathatwitchett · 01/06/2018 21:10

That's an idea Fire

YANBU

What happened to the thing called a private life!

Andthatsthat · 01/06/2018 21:12

YANBU!! My kids do it all the time. One minute I’m waltzing round in my pjs, the next I’ve got one of their bloody friends visiting!!

BackInTime · 01/06/2018 21:12

YANBU OP, I hate Face Time it’s horrid. I especially hate having to look at myself in the corner while having a conversation at the worst double chin angle ever.

CauliflowerBalti · 01/06/2018 21:12

I hate it. No no no. Never. YANBU.

800msprint · 01/06/2018 21:13

Hate it! Unless family. Urgh!

BackInTime · 01/06/2018 21:15

Oh yes gotta love walking into teen DCs room in a towel to grab the hairdryer and she’s got her phone propped up on her desk chatting with her friend. There is no privacy Angry

aliasjoey · 01/06/2018 21:17

I hate it, but then I’m pretty antisocial anyway.

I also hate the way people sometimes drift off and start talking to someone else... if you phoned me, please focus and talk to me.

Tabathatwitchett · 01/06/2018 21:17

This is what my dh doesn't get. He thinks as it's his family who want to talk to the kids that's fine. And it is fine- so long as they let us know in advance and don't just suddenly present in front of me when I'm slobbing on the sofa!!

HarrietKettleWasHere · 01/06/2018 21:18

Hate hate hate.

But then I'm also the kind of person who looks panicked when their phone goes off in their hand like a benign but very intrusive grenade and thinks WHY ARE THEY RINGING ME?! WHAT CAN HAVE HAPPENED?! WHY CAN'T THEY TEXT?!!

My best friend moved to Canada for three years and we only voice-spoke twice in that time, because she'd insist on face-timing Blush

Tabathatwitchett · 01/06/2018 21:20

I'm with you Harriet. My phone is always on silent and I don't always answer it....
Texting is totally appropriate behaviour in 99.9% of situations as far as I'm concerned.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 01/06/2018 21:21

I don't even like it when I have a voicemail 😂

Bambamber · 01/06/2018 21:22

YANBU

My husband often FaceTime his parents then turns the camera to face me when I'm looking like Jabba the hutt

HarrietKettleWasHere · 01/06/2018 21:24

Exactly Tabatha! I'm not uncontactable, I text/WhatsApp or message back pronto...why must people then call?ConfusedGrin

hawleybits · 01/06/2018 21:25

Absolutely detest FaceTime. My son likes me to chat to his girlfriend sometimes, usually when I look horrendous!

lollypop13 · 01/06/2018 21:28

I've turned it off on my phone because my mum would call me on it all the fucking time.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 01/06/2018 21:30

I really love the 'do not disturb' setting- I hate being on the way to work and realising I should probably turn it on.

Tabathatwitchett · 01/06/2018 21:31

I've just deleted the app on his phone. That will be enough to stop it won't it?? Won't it???

OP posts:
Elspeth12345 · 01/06/2018 21:32

I'm mixed about it- I love seeing close family on it, I hate seeing myself on it! (especially make-up free and without brushed hair!).

cardibach · 01/06/2018 21:34

I honestly cannot get over the huge anti-social-ness of MNers. People can’t call at you r house, now they can’t even call you on FaceTime. I genuinely can’t believe the insularity. And then you get other posters complain8ng of loneliness. Coincidence?

Alwayscommuting · 01/06/2018 21:36

I use FaceTime quite rarely but when I'm working away from home I really like being able to see DH and the cats. Okay I'll be honest it's mostly the cats but DH is very obliging at chasing them around the house so I can see them.
