Well, it’s happened... the trans activists have waded into the 8th amendment issue in Ireland

And are apparently pushing for the language in the repeal legislation to be “gender neutral”.

Quote from the article-

“Despite what some may believe, men can become pregnant too. There are tens of thousands of transgender men and non-binary people in Ireland who can conceive, and when speaking about reproductive healthcare, we must always be mindful of that.

“It’s imperative that newly written legislation uses inclusive language. By including this, trans men and non binary people will not hit legal barriers should they need to receive an abortion. By using the term pregnant people in new legislation, as well as protecting women, we are also protecting and respecting all gender identities should a crisis pregnancy occur.”

So. That’s nice. Thousands upon thousands of women have suffered, many have died, because of bullshit like the 8th amendment. And after fighting so hard for so fucking long and finally winning the right to bodily autonomy and reproductive rights, if the TAs get their way, we get to be referred to as pregnant people

I’m a bit of a TERF at the best of times but this is beyond fucking insulting. Savita Halappanavar wasn’t a pregnant person. Michelle Harte wasn’t a pregnant person. Sheila Hodges wasn’t a pregnant person.

If the TDs capitulate and let this happen I will be really pissed off.

but I do not see how women’s rights are being eroded by the existence of trans people

Women’s sport is a particular concern of mine

mathanxiety · 01/06/2018 19:19

Strongmummy, do you think a girl of 14, 15, 16, or 17 ( or younger) should have the right to decide when and where she will strip off her clothing in front of a 17 year old person with a male anatomy? Or should her school decide that for her?

mathanxiety · 01/06/2018 19:25

I ask because my youngest daughter will be in that position next year in her school five days per week.

The school has inaugurated a new trans inclusiveness policy, you see.

My daughter and the rest of the girls in the school are asked, in effect, to participate as audience and role players in the performance of femininity that a group of very privileged UMC white American teenageales insists is their right.

There is nothing theoretical about any of this.

As a sop to girls, the school has also rolled out a new policy on shaming girls publicly for their attire. Criticism of their attire will now it happen privately.

Oh how far we have come.

Ohmydayslove · 01/06/2018 19:26

Its utterly disgusting jaques and so cruel. Glad you were strong enough to deal with it.

Metoodear · 01/06/2018 19:26

but I do not see how women’s rights are being eroded by the existence of trans people

i am a support worker for adults with sn some of the people need to have sex specific care however if I was trans the person I was careing for would be unable to challenge but in all likey hood may not realise we provide intermate care including washing and supporting changing sanity products

Not everyone would be in a psotion to object or even articulate why.

MadeinBelfast · 01/06/2018 19:27

On the day of the vote I saw a number of comments about it being cis-privilege to have an abortion and how some women basically shouldn't complain. Sounds similar to the comments you were getting Jacques, sorry you had to deal with that.

Ohmydayslove · 01/06/2018 19:31

stongmummy

Not scared just bloody angry that my dds are unable to feel completely safe in changing rooms, toilets or during any intimate medical exams because there’s a bloke with a penis in a dress declaring he is now female and allowed to invade their and my previously safe all female places.

Not scared but bloody angry that in all sports now women will not be allowed to compete on a level playing field against other women because a bloke with a penis tells us all he’s now a woman.

If you can’t see this you are no feminist love.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 01/06/2018 19:48

Jacques

"I posted about my m/c and infertility on Twitter as part of a wider debate.
Some TRA sent me swaithes of messages about my “cis-privilege” and how I should be grateful I experience those things."

  • It's only a matter of time before we are told that we have 'cis privledge' to talks about vaginal rape because 'some women' cannot experience it and 'some men' do.
AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 01/06/2018 19:49

Sorry Jacques

Flowers. The people who say these things are cruel and selfish beyond comprehension

JacquesHammer · 01/06/2018 19:50

Assigned thank you. Much appreciated.

kaytee87 · 01/06/2018 19:51

Do you know, I'm starting to feel sorry for them. How hard must life be when you constantly have to find insult in the slightest thing (a woman being called a woman). Exhausting to jump up and down on a soap box.
I'd just ignore them like you would any badly behaved children. They're giving people with genuine gender dysphoria a bad name.

Strongmummy · 01/06/2018 20:16

Give me ONE example where young girls or women have been abused by a trans person. One example. You can’t

JacquesHammer · 01/06/2018 20:19

@Strongmummy I can give you plenty of examples where women are getting physically injured by men playing Contact sports with them.

HTH

Grandmaswagsbag · 01/06/2018 20:30

How hard must life be when you constantly have to find insult in the slightest thing

See I was thinking the same. If being referred to as a person rather than a woman in a piece of legislation bothers you that much I’m not sure how you cope with life.

UrsulaPandress · 01/06/2018 20:31

Or being referred to as him rather than her.

@strongmummy - I am not JacquesHammer but I can respond to your challenge: k2radio.com/breaking-casper-resident-convicted-of-raping-10-year-old-girl/

From the link:

"A jury Wednesday afternoon found a Casper resident guilty of one count of first-degree sexual abuse of a child and one count of second-degree sexual abuse of child in March after a three-day trial in Natrona County District Court.

The six-woman, six-man jury deliberated for about two hours before reaching its decision to convict Miguel Alberto Martinez, who identifies as female and is also known as Michelle. (Featured in the photo above.)

Martinez raped a 10-year-old girl in her bathroom of her apartment in March."

TerfsUp · 01/06/2018 20:40

If being referred to as a person rather than a woman in a piece of legislation bothers you that much I’m not sure how you cope with life.

The legislation affects only women so it is a crucial point. If the legislation were about fines for speeding then it wouldn't be an issue.

Grandmaswagsbag · 01/06/2018 20:46

Terfsup but it doesn’t!!! For the zillionth time, in Ireland you can change your sex legally (as a pp put it, that horse has bolted). This leaves a situation where someone who is legally Male could potentially have an unwanted pregnancy. Do we throw them under the bus because calling people people is now offensive? It’s a legal technicality and the law must allow trans men to be included in whichever is the easiest and most watertight way.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 01/06/2018 20:50

yes it matters to me becuase I am a
woman and at times it’s important and other times absolutely necessary to acknowledge what sex I am

I have experienced life as a female and that life will differ greatly from a male who wants or feels they are a female

Why should I deny the sex I am to appease a few males who are deeply unhappy with being male. my or society denying my sex isn’t going to change theirs

thebewilderness · 01/06/2018 20:55

There have been times in the past when women were erased from the records.
It is bizarre to be living in one.
Everyone knows that man means people and people means man, don't they?

Strongmummy · 01/06/2018 20:56

@jacques, please do.

@terfsup, awful, awful story. There’s nothing I can say really , but I don’t think that one story = all trans women are a danger to women I really don’t. And no one can yet can give me a personal story

TerfsUp · 01/06/2018 21:01

Give me ONE example where young girls or women have been abused by a trans person. One example. You can’t

That's a bullshit evasive tactic. As per your post (quoted above in its entirety so there is no way I can be accused of taking it out of context), I gave you an example.

Now, rather than acknowledging that your challenge has been met, you have changed your tune:

but I don’t think that one story = all trans women are a danger to women I really don’t. And no one can yet can give me a personal story

Personal story = anecdote = /= evidence.

I gave you evidence. JacquesVardyshavingaparty. Shifting the goalposts to suit your own needs shows how weak your position is.

JacquesHammer · 01/06/2018 21:02

And no one can yet can give me a personal story

Fallon Fox. Hannah Mouncey. Both transwomen playing Contact sport against women.

I play rugby. I am now faced with the very real possibility that I will have to play against men. If you can’t understand why that is a problem you are, quite frankly, a blithering idiot.

abbsisspartacus · 01/06/2018 21:03

Personal stories are just that personal there is no need to share intimate details if we don't feel comfortable
