Matching names with half siblings!

I am pregnant with my first child with OH. However OH has 2 sons and a daughter with his ex wife. All three children’s names start with the same letter.
Since we have been discussing names OH has made it quite clear that he thinks we should keep this theme. However I see it as something that he and his ex wife did. He on the other hand thinks:
A) the baby will feel left out when it grows up and it will separate it as a half sibling.
B) his other children will view the baby as the start of a new separate family as it won’t have the same initials as them.
AIBU in wanting to give my baby a name that doesn’t start with the same letter or should I be trying to think of names with that letter?

Oh no, I know a woman who has 4 boys and all 4 have the same beginning to their name. It's the most confusing thing ever.

Just choose a name you love. The whole "we have to follow a tradition my Ex began" thing is, frankly, a bit odd.

CopONNotLinkedIn · 31/05/2018 20:26

I know a family who did that!! They only got as far a G tho.

"Only" 🤣

The whole "we have to follow a tradition my Ex began" thing is, frankly, a bit odd.

Tbf it may well have been his idea from the start and his ex just went along with it.

I never even knew this was a thing and thought a relative had just chosen the names because she liked them, it wasn't until her dd continued the tradition that the penny dropped 😂

I know someone who has two DD’s who basically share a name bar one letter. Think Ella and Bella except it’s worse. Worst still because their names are just like the surname so think Ella and Bella Bell. Some people just don’t think. Or maybe that’s cute to them...

I would definitely go for a different initial. The same initial thing is weird and no, your DC will NOT feel left out.

I also know someone with four daughters all named after colours then she had a son and called him Albert Grin. So random.

ElenOfTheWays · 31/05/2018 22:00

So are they "Cathy, Chris, Cory and Carrie" or "Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige" ?

Grin

Someone I know has two boys with her ex, let’s call them the fake names of Alfie and George. They split up and he gets with a new partner who also has an Alfie and George from a previous relationship....so far, so coincidental but obviously nobody could help it, then SHE meets a new partner who also has a George. So in this family, there are now x3 Alfies and x2 Georges - then they each go on to have further children and call them weirdly similar derivatives of the same name. Think Bella and Isabella. They do stuff together and co-parent brilliantly so the kids are often all together. Alfie will certainly call the other two Alfies his brothers - it wrecks my brain!! Confused

theWarOnPeace · 31/05/2018 22:03

No, no I’ve mixed myself up - there’s x3 Georges and x2 Alfies Shock

woollyheart · 31/05/2018 22:15

Different letter!

It seems a little selfish to set up your children for confusion and identification difficulties down the line just because you fancy following a theme.

VerbenaBoriensis · 31/05/2018 22:41

Someone I knew had a tradition of lets say the T initial. I mentioned the post thing getting muddled up. She said oh its ok they have middle names-those also began with T!!!!

RainbowGlitterFairy · 31/05/2018 22:53

My name doesn't fit with the rest of my siblings and half siblings, It has never bothered me, or them as far as I know. I am the only one who never got heir post opened by accident though. (coz when you have 7 A. Name sooner or later someone will open someone else's post, either by accident or accidentally on purpose)
