And for prominent influencers who I will not name here for fear of them kicking off and getting the thread pulled to even hint that this might be the case is irresponsible on their part?

SO much gets discussed on MN every day. So much gets criticised. Social media influencers are a new and intriguing phenomenon - why wouldn't they be discussed here? For better or worse?

Many people have supported influencers for the way they earn money. That gets ignored. Many have politely criticised and pointed out ways it could be more ethical. This gets ignored. One or two have made comments that are personal or cross the line, these have been pounced on and discussed publicly.

The 'arguments' die down. People stop caring. Then prominent influencers go and start the whole thing up again.

Blaming MN is just lazy and irresponsible.

@tvcabinet, my point stands. I don't agree with the corporate profile of Apple. I don't look at their products and check in to see what heinous advertising crimes it may or not be commiting. Unless you are conducting business with said business IG accounts; it really is nothing whatsoever to do with you. The only vested interest is the consumer. You have made it quite clear you are not, or likely to be in the future, a consumer of these business accounts. Why are you unable to understand this has absolutely nothing to do with you? Really, WHY??????

@tvcabinet, wearelocal took her dissatisfaction to MNHQ whom I will assume acted appropriately in response to her complaint(s). If wearelocal is not capable of standing her ground in a debate; how are you attrubuting this to me exactly? Let's assume any bullying / personal attacks were responded to by MNHQ; which is the appropriate channel for redress. I am guessing you have absolutely no substantive evidence regarding wearelocal's absence. But should you have direct evidence, please do share this, for the purposes of legitimacy (should I be hauled over the coals) and transparency (so posters are not permitted to fabricate a set of circumstances to suit their own ends).

@m5slowdown - plenty of the contributors to these threads have been and still are "consumers". We either follow the instagrammers being discussed, have previously followed them and decided to unfollow as a direct result of what we have learnt from these threads OR we use brands which have been or perhaps one day will be hawked by influencers.

You are trying desperately to shame people into not talking about this but the sensible thing would be for you to stop reading these threads if you genuinely still can't understand why they exist. If you're being deliberately obtuse then why not give it up and just contribute to this thread with something sensible that might bring people round to your way of thinking.

The direct consumer argument is deeply flawed. I never once bought The Sun but I was still outraged and offended by the old page 3 girls and signed petitions and voiced my concerns to anyone who would listen including mps. Was I wrong to be allowed to do that? Should I have not bothered as I wasn't a direct consumer??

@beautybox, at the point you decide to unfollow, it really does become nothing to do with you. You are no longer counted in the currency providing traffic, partnerships or other collaborations to the IG account. The IG account is not accountable to you in any way. When fashion houses used real fur, animal rights campaigners protested and this was effective....as opposed to setting up a forum to essentially just bitch about people (and or businesses) whom appeared (to said posters) to be getting a lot more in life than the forum posters. This is about jealousy; without a doubt. All evidence points towards posters becoming riled regarding any activity that provides money or goods..the selling on of gifts fits this agenda perfectly. Selling on of gifts is in no way related to ethics of advertising and or monetisation of children. I have yet to see one person provide a critical argument to either adverts or monetising minors. If any of you really thought this through, you would be able to conflate the biggest concern (and interest) of monetisation of children is that these children will be sitting with other children, navigating their way in a world with adults and children who have not had a 24/7 record of their lives in the public domain. How do these fit together is my question.

How do you know about the ins and outs of mother freckle's account if you have no presence on IG? The missing posters may well have left because of your disruptive effect on the thread and your incoherent rambling. I agree the MN moderation on this thread leaves much to be desired.

@m5slowdown - I'd argue people with an MN and an IG account who may or may not follow influencers have more right to comment than you, who doesn't have an IG presence.

I also post on IG which appears to have even less in the way of moderation. It isn't a prerequisite for my participation. Just an observation.

Anyway, I was off this thread because of the constant derailing and bickering caused by @m5slowdown but their insistence that we shut up has made me more keen than ever to keep discussing the ethics, ASA breaches and shady goings on

Jeeez not sure how my comment is a personal attack on FOD? Surely he is ‘personally attacking’ those who has highlighted and spoken up about clearer advertising by not declaring his gifts?
