To think Mumsnet doesn't hate Instagram influencers?

And for prominent influencers who I will not name here for fear of them kicking off and getting the thread pulled to even hint that this might be the case is irresponsible on their part?

SO much gets discussed on MN every day. So much gets criticised. Social media influencers are a new and intriguing phenomenon - why wouldn't they be discussed here? For better or worse?

Many people have supported influencers for the way they earn money. That gets ignored. Many have politely criticised and pointed out ways it could be more ethical. This gets ignored. One or two have made comments that are personal or cross the line, these have been pounced on and discussed publicly.

The 'arguments' die down. People stop caring. Then prominent influencers go and start the whole thing up again.

Blaming MN is just lazy and irresponsible.

Well let’s move on from that IG account then shall we @confidentialwaste Wink

CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 08:25

confidential proving my point, it really confuses people. It's to show what bit people are referring to otherwise they don't know what bit and pick up you've missed the word "and" or "any" out and they can't understand your post any more, and could you quote in future.
Noted, will do, as it leads to confusion if not as shown.

Fivelittleduckies · 11/06/2018 08:25

Ads hidden in stories is definitely a pet peeve of mine - often times I find it used as a sneaky way of avoiding accountability on non-transparency

ConfidentialWaste · 11/06/2018 08:28

Yes, let's do that @Fivelittleduckies Smile

mrtumblesmum · 11/06/2018 08:30

I'm happy to see that MOD is back
Looks like she just took 2 weeks out to clear off any negative comments on her site!! And get it back to the perfect hero worshipping one she wants.

Bakingnovice · 11/06/2018 08:40

The ads are hidden in posts because they're too embarrassed to have them in their actual feeds. I mean who wants 'gifted' cereal in their grid especially when you've had you force your kids into eating it and made them work for you before sending them off to school. The whole ad thing I find is embarrassing.

I unfollowed someone last week, I used to love the account but she took her daughter off school to take her on a 'special family trip' to legoland and this week she blotted about it. Hidden in the post was a 'gifted' hashtag. It's misleading and kids are being taken out of school so you can blog a freebie??! Wrong.

I also have a massive issue with those who are monetizing mental health. It's too serious an issue to 'sell' via Insta. It needs carefully planned and directed interventions. Not events, not course selling, not goody bags or t shirts.

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 11/06/2018 08:53

You’re missing the point here Cady to quote something that isn’t actually what was written, means it’s your interpretation of what was said, and that is misleading, and I think you do it deliberately.

Your failure to include ANY wrong-doings is telling. I’m not being a pedant here, this is what you do, you twist things ever so slightly to fit your argument.

Because any wrong-doings implies there could have been some, there could have not. What your wrote implies there definitely was....

Fivelittleduckies · 11/06/2018 09:02

So I mustn’t follow and igers who’ve monetized mental health, mind sharing examples (no need to name people specifically, just how it’s being done as I’m curious)

CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 09:21

abuck I missed the word any out. The sentence was exactly the same, the meaning didn't change.
Instead of "has she apologised for any wrongdoings?" It read "has she apologised for wrongdoings?
How you can say that's my intepretation and it wasn't written is anyone's guess. It means you (general you) can deflect away from any questions though by claiming the meaning's been changed.
Confused

CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 09:25

Sorry, but you've lost me. You've completely sailed over what I actually asked.
She's come back with one picture of herself. (Which apparently is blatantly an ad and let's be honest according to a poster on here Confused
Bang straight back into negative moaning the second back from a break. Even though done nothing wrong.
Why should she apologise for what you perceive to be wrongdoings?
Why should she have to justify herself to you?

CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 09:29

Looks like she just took 2 weeks out to clear off any negative comments on her site!! And get it back to the perfect hero worshipping one she wants.

In the time it took to write my post, there's yet another one.
These threads are MOD Watch, and the fact she's took a break and the thread was forced to switch and talk about something else is evident as the minute she's back it's bitching again.
She obviously doesn't have to do anything wrong to be criticised, people will find fault regardless.
People say they find the hero worshipping fans weird (so do I to be fair lol) but the super hate fans are exactly the same behaviour but on the opposite end of the spectrum.

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 11/06/2018 09:31

But you do it often, why is this? Do you read something and then forget it by the time you quote it?

I think words matter. Especially when you’re quoting someone. The slightest change can change the implication.

And that’s still not what I wrote BTW.

jamoncrumpets · 11/06/2018 09:36

Some people are MOD watching Cady, maybe. Most aren't. I'm certainly not.

OP posts:
CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 09:38

Did she apologise for any wrong-doings?

has she apologised for wrongdoings"

the word any being omitted hasn't changed the meaning. It still means has she apologised for wrongdoings.
Anyway, this is a perfect example of why I bold and quote as it makes it so much easier to know what I'm referring to and people can't say you're twisting words as the word any got left out.

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 11/06/2018 09:40

Cady I already answered that, look above!

My post about wrong-doings was just for you. Wanted to see how long it took you to jump on it, didn’t take long. that’s a bit sad of me I know, I just find your obsession amusing.

I haven’t even read her comeback post, it’s of no interest to me. If it hadn’t been mentioned on here, I’d never have known. I’ve said time and time again I didn’t even know who she was until I moved from the S&B threads (which you were also obsessively replying on) to these ones. I follow fashion and interiors accounts, with only a smattering of instamums that do fashion content!

CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 09:42

S and B threads? I've only been on the IG threads. Not even sure what S and B threads are, actually. Confused
Think you must have me confused with someone else, sorry.

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 11/06/2018 09:44

Style and beauty, and no I haven’t.

CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 09:46

Abuck - ah, right. I have honestly never been on style and beauty threads, you seriously are getting me confused with someone else. I've only been on IG threads.

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 11/06/2018 09:50

I haven’t Cady, it was the S&B transparency threads where you and Sofia started your obsessive defending.

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 11/06/2018 09:51

And that’s why I ended up here, as I find it funny!

CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 09:54

I haven’t Cady, it was the S&B transparency threads where you and Sofia started your obsessive defending.

If it was transparency/ethics on IG/social media accounts, that could have been me, yes.
Style and beauty transparency though? That can only have been me if it was these IG threads.

mrtumblesmum · 11/06/2018 10:02

These threads are MOD Watch

She's a very prolific instagrammer which is why she's gets mentioned so much - I think more so because we "know" her husband too so she gets double the attention of others who get mentioned.
I'm interested in the ethics surrounding all instagrammers - I have a nose at accounts with anywhere from 1k followers +

CadyHeron · 11/06/2018 10:07

Nothing wrong with mentioning her, just baffling that she seems to be attacked for just daring to come back in the first place.
Kind of proves big name IGers points when they say that MN is full of bitching. Which is a shame,as there's some good posters on here and some interesting points made when it doesn't descend into poo flinging.

ConfidentialWaste · 11/06/2018 10:15

The point I made earlier about how these threads go has just been proven out again. This is Groundhog Day. Painful.
