To think Mumsnet doesn't hate Instagram influencers?

And for prominent influencers who I will not name here for fear of them kicking off and getting the thread pulled to even hint that this might be the case is irresponsible on their part?

SO much gets discussed on MN every day. So much gets criticised. Social media influencers are a new and intriguing phenomenon - why wouldn't they be discussed here? For better or worse?

Many people have supported influencers for the way they earn money. That gets ignored. Many have politely criticised and pointed out ways it could be more ethical. This gets ignored. One or two have made comments that are personal or cross the line, these have been pounced on and discussed publicly.

The 'arguments' die down. People stop caring. Then prominent influencers go and start the whole thing up again.

Blaming MN is just lazy and irresponsible.

Seriously, who corrected a spelling mistake? As it wasn't me Confused

BeansandSausages · 10/06/2018 22:40

Never understood the whole if it doesn't involve you, ignore it approach.

Imagine how life would be if many important figures in history had taken that approach?

Would you walk past someone being awful to someone else because it doesn't involve you?

Sometimes people like to stand up for what is right. Yeah it might be minor in the grand scheme of things but why not? Shady advertising is wrong and I personally think standing up to what's not right is important. I think everyone should think that.

Like cady says , disclose it and all is good. Yeah it's not my cup of tea and I won't follow someone with loads of ads. But if they're doing things by the book, fair enough.

SpringSprangSprung · 10/06/2018 22:41

I think she would have done better to have owned her mistakes rather than trying to ignore them. She took her page down because she was accused of professional misconduct and that remains a reality. I don't give a flying that she is all about the next #ad, that is, after all her business but she should own that fact. She is a very part time midwife and a very full time salesperson. Good luck to her - but let's just be honest about it.

BeansandSausages · 10/06/2018 22:42

M5 you sound stressed. It's a discussion and everyone would like to keep it civil? You disagree with people on here and that's ok - I don't want to live in world where everyone agrees but I would like to be in one where everyone can respectfully disagree.

ConfidentialWaste · 10/06/2018 22:44

You do sound stressed M5. Picking up on someone's spelling is just unnecessary.

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 22:44

Agreed Smile

CadyHeron · 10/06/2018 22:45

She is honest about the fact that she is a midwife and that she also has an IG feed with ads on it. Bit strange to say "let's just be honest about it" -erm, if the ads are disclosed, she is being honest.

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 22:46

Whilst you may be right, a poster telling me "to fuck right off" is equally unnecessary. I was not rude when correcting spelling. Same rules for everyone please.

ConfidentialWaste · 10/06/2018 22:47

Perhaps take some time out of forums and study a dictionary?

^ This is rude

SpringSprangSprung · 10/06/2018 22:52

.... and it appears she has been through her previous posts and removed all the dissenting comments - so much for debate then.

Whirliegigspiders · 10/06/2018 22:53

M5 we are literally rolling about laughing at your posts. Are you a comedy poster employed by MN for the LOLS? Grin Classic

Dozyoldtwonk · 10/06/2018 22:55

m5slowdown

Do you really not give a shit about the wider societal issues that this thread is provoking & encouraging debate on? Use of children to monetise accounts? Ethics of using unconsenting kids. Covert advertising. Your vision span seems so narrow. This thread is trying to delve beyond The Meldrums, MOD or whatever instamum is misbehaving today. This kind of stuff will impact our children, will drive what becomes acceptable in society in the future (or not) & it’s an important discussion to have, whatever your point of view. Get back to your echo chamber.

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 23:05

The only obstacle I can detect preventing this thread from remaining on the discussion is the digression towards pulling down MOD, Meldrums and mre.seour. The only thing 'getting in your way' is your constant reverting to bitching as opposed to discussion. Do NOT attempt to hold me responsible for the fact that you simply disrespect the IG influencer females....YOUR problem; YOU resolve it.

ConfidentialWaste · 10/06/2018 23:07

Ok leave us to figure it out. We'll get back to you if we need any help. Bye.

Wearelocal · 10/06/2018 23:09

M5 females, noooo. FOD's the one. Take your spell check over there.

Fivelittleduckies · 10/06/2018 23:14

Mod's return is very obviously a press release.

This is where I disagree. Why is she immediately being picked apart upon her return to IG? There is nothing questionable or unethical about her post so why is she immediately brought up in a negative light. Your comment is speculative and feels more like a personal attack Hmm

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 10/06/2018 23:15

It might be worth giving MOD a fresh chance to be fair. For all we know the break has done her some good and she's taken on board some expert advice and will manage her account more transparently, fairly and kindly. That's all we want, isn't it? Well, can only speak for myself, but I'd hope to see a difference. Time will tell I guess.

In this spirit, I'm ignoring m5 now, owed to her continued rudeness to others on here who are trying to have a reasoned discussion.

Wearelocal · 10/06/2018 23:16

Anyone seen the Lottie Rose IG account. All the lols for her insta piss take Grin

CadyHeron · 10/06/2018 23:22

fivelittleduckies - well said, it's ridiculous.

Can I suggest that anyone who wants to discuss the ODs moves to a separate thread because I have zero interest in discussing them and it has the potential to derail what could be interesting discussions on other areas. Please?

SpringSprangSprung · 10/06/2018 23:25

Really not intended as a personal attack - more a comment on the glaring inconsistencies in her statement. Am intrigued by the assertion that she is a midwife to the core - to the book club reviewer /fashion reviewer/ whatever reviewer.... ahhh, salesperson. I just prefer honesty. (and I do have a huge issue with anyone willing to monetise their children) But, you're right, let's wait and see how it all plays out.

Wearelocal · 10/06/2018 23:27

Confidential you would like a thread about instagram to exclude the couple with the most followers in their genre? But the threads filled with the dulldrums was ok?

PamsterWheel · 10/06/2018 23:30

Oh FFS give her a FUCKING break.

Wearelocal · 10/06/2018 23:30

I am looking forward to the ODs' interior updates. What f&b colour will be unleashed next? I won't be silenced Grin
