To think Mumsnet doesn't hate Instagram influencers?

And for prominent influencers who I will not name here for fear of them kicking off and getting the thread pulled to even hint that this might be the case is irresponsible on their part?

SO much gets discussed on MN every day. So much gets criticised. Social media influencers are a new and intriguing phenomenon - why wouldn't they be discussed here? For better or worse?

Many people have supported influencers for the way they earn money. That gets ignored. Many have politely criticised and pointed out ways it could be more ethical. This gets ignored. One or two have made comments that are personal or cross the line, these have been pounced on and discussed publicly.

The 'arguments' die down. People stop caring. Then prominent influencers go and start the whole thing up again.

Blaming MN is just lazy and irresponsible.

This? Confused

When is the big reveal of the results of your experiment M5? I'm on tenterhooks here.

ConfidentialWaste · 10/06/2018 21:43

You sound excited M5

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 21:48

Really? I respectfully suggest you remove yourself from said tenterhooks. I am about as likely to reveal results as IG influencers are to care about your persistent bitching about their lives. Smile

This is personally attacking

JamesDelayneysTattoos · 10/06/2018 21:55

I haven’t read the whole thread yet but what’s an influencer?

sofialemon · 10/06/2018 21:57

There have been a number of posters on these threads who have said following certain "instamums" made them feel jealous. Also depressed and not good enough. I just can't understand why you would continue to follow people or use insta at all if it makes you feel in any way bad about yourself.

The mumsnetters who seemingly only follow certain people purely to pick them apart on here and report them to the ASA, why??!! What do you achieve from that? I just don't get it.

Something you’re incredibly well versed in m5

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 21:58

If you don't know, you really ought not to be commenting on the thread. Knowledge of the 'influencer' is rudimentary to the discussion. If you are not aware of it, you have no knowledge to qualify comment.

Fivelittleduckies · 10/06/2018 22:01

I think there is a lot of interesting discussion that goes on here - yet focus ends up on the 10% of pp that have been out of line for whatever reason. It’s frustrating for me as I actually enjoy the discussion and do share views on both sides of the spectrum.

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 22:02

This.....again! Why should IGers carry the can for every single individual's (many of whom don't even follow but lurk simply to create controversy, hate and blame) inadequacies? This is not their responsibility. You want something; get off your arse and work for it!

Fivelittleduckies · 10/06/2018 22:03

Where are your “qualifications” to comment m5?

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 22:05

I'm not sure that is the right question. As I said, the term 'influencer' is rudimentary to this discussion. I am not asking anyone what this means.

Fivelittleduckies · 10/06/2018 22:08

Ha! Indeed you are too busy telling everyone what they should do and where they should go instead Wink

Whirliegigspiders · 10/06/2018 22:08

@moonkissedlegs a huge variety. They go with the name chronically and then heir own name. Or spoonie something.

The whole community is v v bitchy and competative they fight over who is most ill etc

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 22:13

Competitive*. Are you bored of going after IG influencers? Is there no-one safe anymore? Jeez. Unless it directly affects YOU....back off.

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 22:14

& your comments slot into ethics of instagram influencers how exactly?

SpringSprangSprung · 10/06/2018 22:21

Oh dear. Mod's return is very obviously a press release. There is nothing authentic or engaging about it - just a gateway to the next #ad. I do hope any book reviews will have the integrity lacking in her previous cut and paste efforts (I say this as an English teacher) and that she will stop the bullying on her page instead of encouraging it. It will be interesting to see if she continues to monetise her children or exhibit some respect for them and their welfare. Time will tell.

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 22:28

With over 5k positive, welcoming comments, feels a bit harsh to suggest there is nothing engaging / authentic. Evidence points compellingly to the contrary; notwithstanding your desire for your own observation (false news) to be true. At least let her have a fair crack from learning from her mistakes.

CadyHeron · 10/06/2018 22:29

Even if it "a gateway to the next ad", so what? If they disclose any upcoming ads, as this thread is always so worried about, there's not a problem,is there.

Whirliegigspiders · 10/06/2018 22:30

Because they become influencers too. Get paid for it. Advertise stuff with tenuous links to their illness. E.g. you all need to buy this bottle cos it makes me drink water and that helps with my illnesses. It's really worrying that the young teens coming up are copying this in a view to become the same.

And as for the spelling correction. Fuck right off. Who do you actually think you are? Grin bonkers

CadyHeron · 10/06/2018 22:32

m5slowdown - it's always the way the thread goes. It doesn't matter what the hell she does, it's always wrong.
I'm with you on the "nothing engaging about it" - well of course there is, if it's making people engage and interact!
Interesting within hours of coming back to IG it instantly switches straight back to MOD Watch.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 10/06/2018 22:32

If it doesn't effect YOU directly, clear off... Great advice m5. So you can leave this thread then? Or are you going to finally declare which instamum you are? Calling posters on here pathetic because they don't agree with you is not very kind, is it? What's your angle, why are you so angry about this?

CadyHeron · 10/06/2018 22:33

whirlygig - was that to me? I didn't correct a spelling mistake?
