To think Mumsnet doesn't hate Instagram influencers?

And for prominent influencers who I will not name here for fear of them kicking off and getting the thread pulled to even hint that this might be the case is irresponsible on their part?

SO much gets discussed on MN every day. So much gets criticised. Social media influencers are a new and intriguing phenomenon - why wouldn't they be discussed here? For better or worse?

Many people have supported influencers for the way they earn money. That gets ignored. Many have politely criticised and pointed out ways it could be more ethical. This gets ignored. One or two have made comments that are personal or cross the line, these have been pounced on and discussed publicly.

The 'arguments' die down. People stop caring. Then prominent influencers go and start the whole thing up again.

Blaming MN is just lazy and irresponsible.

Confidentialwaste absolutely no idea what the "unless" comment is about.
Honestly, these threads are bonkers. What with experiment posts of switching, and now you with your tin foil hatting..... Grin

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 13:43

This a very tortuous bitchfest in relation to a selfcaresunday event organised by NB. You are missing nothing but several continuous and persistent snide remarks regarding an item offered to participants on the selfcaresunday event. There is a myriad of bitching threads going back to April, if you are that way inclined.

BeautyBox · 10/06/2018 13:43

@m5slowdown - it's not a great experiment, let's be honest.

I'd love to know what you're trying to achieve other than being a goady troll!

CadyHeron · 10/06/2018 13:44

Interested to know what you're "reporting" m5 for though. On what grounds? People are allowed to change opinions, you know Confused
hardly report worthy.

Wearelocal · 10/06/2018 13:44

M5slowdown thank you lol my typing is really off. You can comment on what you like. Why did you post anti IG comments on the previous thread and have totally contradicted yourself today? What was the experiment? Either you are mother freckle and wanted traffic for your IG account, or you're something to do with the meldrums. Either way you are essentially sock puppeting without a name change, which is very odd and stupid.

ConfidentialWaste · 10/06/2018 13:46

Wearelocal, I think M5 was referring to Cady who posted at 15.38 yesterday.

I have lots of positive comments to say about IG. It is quite possible to enjoy the platform and have a dislike for some of the tactics.

M5, MN has a troll policy, if you are found to be in breach of the TGs it would probably be because some of your previous posts appear to be trollish because of your inconsistencies - one day posting personal criticism of named IGers, the next saying that sort of behaviour is wrong. And then claiming it is all an experiment. I don't think MN does "experiments"

BeautyBox · 10/06/2018 13:46

I don't know about reporting, @CadyHeron but it's sock puppeting at the very least. Totally weird behaviour. Either way, it's derailing the thread.

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 13:48

What is wrong with you? Why must I be either @mother_freckle or Mrs. Meldrum, why though? Not everyone, whom are IGers agrees with persistent attack, given you can look away any time you like. Following IGers is not mandatory. Seriously, all of you, leave them to do what they are doing until such time it directly affects you.

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 13:48

not*

BeautyBox · 10/06/2018 13:50

Stop policing us, @m5slowdown

We're grown women, capable of deciding what we do and don't discuss. If you don't like specific posts then report them to MN, otherwise hide the threads and get on with your day

m5slowdown · 10/06/2018 13:51

Let's leave MNHQ to make the decision as regards my alleged trolling shall we.....in a similar way we ought to permit the appropriate regulatory authority (ASA) to regulate IGers and their advertising practices.

Wearelocal · 10/06/2018 13:52

I could be wrong of course. Perhaps you're NB. I've reported you anyway. I look forward to hearing what MNHQ say.

CadyHeron · 10/06/2018 13:52

Beauty - yep, can see it's a type of sock puppetry, it's totally confusing Grin definitely weird behaviour.
Although I kind of agree with m5 a bit when she says "why do I have to be the meldrums or whoever" - as in whenever you have a different opinion, you automatically MUST be an IGer or work for one of them.
Hmm

Wearelocal · 10/06/2018 13:56

Ah thanks confidentialwaste re comments.

Fivelittleduckies · 10/06/2018 14:02

Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion @m5 but I’m quite happy to continue following who Id like to on ig and discussing influencer ethics right here on MN. Following this thread is also not mandatory Wink

BeautyBox · 10/06/2018 14:03

@CadyHeron - yes, fair enough re: Meldrums comment. I think comments with that much vitriol asking everyone to stop posting on these threads are just so odd that the assumption is that that person has an agenda. There's a difference between measured counter-arguments and "Wht don't you just shut up and leave them alone?"

Wearelocal · 10/06/2018 14:07

I'm all for some sensible measured responses. Remember mother pukka's? Earning her nothing but respect I thought. The screeching that 'we all need to unfollow' is just not a reasonable response.

@m5slowdown - so we found the existence of a "lavender flannel" amusing therefore we are all bitches and this is a bitchfest and we should all shut up and unfollow?

Do you have anything you'd actually like to discuss or are you just here to tell us off?

Wearelocal · 10/06/2018 14:21

I had nothing to do with the Lavender flannelgate, but it was bloody funny. Get a sense of humour.

poppytosh · 10/06/2018 14:21

Wow. I think it's a tad ironic to be complaining about us discussing IG's ethics whilst calling us a coven of bitches! No one has referred to any IG with any kind of attack like that.

ConfidentialWaste · 10/06/2018 14:22

Have you really been holding a grudge about a joke about the lavender flannel for this long? Confused

Wearelocal · 10/06/2018 14:25

M5slowdown I've reported you again. I hope MN crack on. You are being highly unpleasant and adding nothing constructive to this thread.

jamoncrumpets · 10/06/2018 14:25

The lavender flannel thing was finding humour in the grim mire of mental health quackery on instagram, where it seems that any unqualified person can set themselves up as a mental health ambassador, and use the terms 'mental health' and 'self care' to flog any old shit they like, from iron supplements to teabags. Oh and charge over £80 for a day focusing on mental well-being that was orchestrated by not a single mental healthcare professional. It's unregulated and it's dangerous. So yes, lavender flannels are fucking funny, because they represent, on a micro scale, how bonkers this is.
