DHs eating

endoftether82 · 29/05/2018 21:31

DH has 3 diners everyday. The first will be a proper meal, say spaghetti bolognese, he will also polish off the children's meals if there's any leftovers - often before they've even said they're finished. Second meal will be some kind of sandwich, so tonight it was turkey and avocado, other times it might be peanut butter and banana. He will then finish with a massive bowl of cereal.

Full disclosure, he does walk 6 miles a day. However, he always has a hearty canteen lunch (massive portions). I know this because he frequently instagrams his work meals. He also tells are children about them when he get home and they often involve puddings like profiteroles or crumble.

He's a perfectly healthy size. But aibu to think this is unusual behaviour. He's just had a go at me because I raised my eyebrows when he was pouring out his massive bowl of Cheerios.

Am I the only one who doesn't know what my BMI is? Or my h's? Or care? It's a shit way to measure health at any rate.

endoftether82 · 30/05/2018 14:45

Grin* Vlad.* I've never posted about food before, or frankly read many of the food threads because as surprising as it may seem, I'm not particularly interested in the eating habits of others.

As I've said before I'm just astounded he's able to eat that much.

Thanks to all who've made me laugh!

I vaguely know mine as I was weighed by a HCP last summer and told I need to watch as its a bit low, I think it's probably a bit lower now based on my clothes.
I don't own scales though, and eat whatever I want, I don't have a huge appetite and have IBS so that's why I'm not big, I'm not unhealthily underweight though, or underweight at all, just on the small side.
(7 stone 2 last July, but I'm only 5 foot)

diodati · 30/05/2018 15:14

Sarcastic much, endof? From my POV, unless you're financially strapped, you seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill. Except for taking your DC's dinners, which is, as PP have already said, a bit much.

Bettyfood · 30/05/2018 15:21

I'm sure 40" isn't a healthy waist size for a man. Last I heard the advice was 35" and women's about 31/32". 40" is an enormous waist measurement, even for a tall man.

Branleuse · 30/05/2018 15:41

nicking the kids dinner before theyve finished is taking the piss, but the rest of it just sounds like hes got a good appetite

Branleuse · 30/05/2018 15:52

who has a 40 inch waist @bettyfood ? OP doesnt say that anywhere

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/05/2018 15:55

I agree, @Branleuse - he should let the children finish their own meals, and stop nicking their food - frankly I am appalled at him doing that.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 30/05/2018 15:56

My husband eats around 3000 calories or more a day. Hardly any fat on him he’s just massive.

busybarbara · 30/05/2018 16:25

I'm sure if your DH was posting on the internet saying how greedy and fat you were you wouldn't like it so stop fatshaming him on here

endoftether82 · 30/05/2018 17:24

When did I say he was greedy and fat? He said he had a greedy streak, he also said he had a bit of a belly overhang. I said as long as he's healthy.

stayathomer · 30/05/2018 17:35

Men need more calories than women. The lunchy dinner sounds a bit mad but as for the sandwich and cereal, sure isn't it better than you saying he has a chippy every night?! And I do that with the kids food too at times;)

stayathomer · 30/05/2018 17:36

Assuming op means they leave it around and he finishes it off? Relax!!!

ReanimatedSGB · 30/05/2018 17:43

No, OP specifically said that he takes food from their plates before they have finished eating, which is not at all good for the DC. Not only might they be hungry, but it could lead to them becoming anxious about food, and bolting/hoarding it because they are scared of having it taken off them when they are still eating/still hungry.

ConciseandNice · 30/05/2018 17:47

He should
Absolutely not be taking food from their plates before they have finished. Or until they’ve left the table. That’s not right I’m any level.

Does he have worms?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 30/05/2018 18:36

DF does this with my fallen salad from my Subway sandwiches. He says "Well, you're not going to eat it." Yes I fucking AM! I always DO! 😠😠😠😠😠😠😠

kitchensinkmum · 30/05/2018 18:40

He's probs fine with no health issue but worth mentioning hyperthyroidism. Over active thyroid means you're always hungry and often don't gain any weight. My friends husband was eating about 8000cals a day and still slim until he had his thyroid checked and it was over active.

busybarbara · 30/05/2018 23:19

Sounds like if you have that benefit of an overactive thyroid you should just enjoy it

tiddliewinkiewoo · 30/05/2018 23:27

The only thing I would have issue with like many PP is this:

he will also polish off the children's meals if there's any leftovers - often before they've even said they're finished.

How blumming disrespectful and teaching the children horrible manners - I'd absolutely tell him to wind it in and stop being so greedy.

As for the rest? Really couldn't get angst about it - my son has hollow legs and eats huge amounts of food - he also plays ridiculous amounts of sports and is of a muscly, lean physique.

Wildlingofthewest · 30/05/2018 23:37

Does he actually feel hungry in the evenings after his dinner? Or is the sandwich/cereal just a bad habit he’s got into?? What time do you eat dinner and what time does he go to bed usually?

He seems to be eating a lot of the wrong stuff - as if it’s not filling him up. I’d never be able to eat an evening meal like spag bol abs then have a big sandwich and then a bowl of cereal!

He needs to leave the kids alone at mealtimes - there is absolutely no need for him to be scavenging for food off their plates and id have a word. If nothing else is seriously bad table manners and not setting a very good example!!!

Bettyfood · 31/05/2018 04:33

Men need more calories than women

Depends on the height, weight, metabolism and activity levels of the individual.

ragged · 31/05/2018 04:49

Tell us a bit more about the "belly overhang"
BMI, age?

My dad was a skinny avid 6'4" basketball player & I don't think he ate like OP describes. Wore XXL clothes when he was skinny, so broad just skinny. He used to have a little bread with butter for late evening snack, mind.
Now 75yo & eats fairly lightly, maybe half the amount I do as a very active 50yo woman.

stayathomer · 31/05/2018 07:26

Bettyfood In general they do

but it could lead to them becoming anxious about food, and bolting/hoarding it because they are scared of having it taken off them when they are still eating/still hungry. That's a bit extreme tbh

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 31/05/2018 13:01

Oh god no, OP. Give NO details of your husband's 'overhang', it will be picked on to death. Keep them frothing! Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 31/05/2018 14:39

I bet the overhang is because he had a biscuit once a week at playgroup, or if not that it'll be the cup of weak orange squash.
