DHs eating

endoftether82 · 29/05/2018 21:31

DH has 3 diners everyday. The first will be a proper meal, say spaghetti bolognese, he will also polish off the children's meals if there's any leftovers - often before they've even said they're finished. Second meal will be some kind of sandwich, so tonight it was turkey and avocado, other times it might be peanut butter and banana. He will then finish with a massive bowl of cereal.

Full disclosure, he does walk 6 miles a day. However, he always has a hearty canteen lunch (massive portions). I know this because he frequently instagrams his work meals. He also tells are children about them when he get home and they often involve puddings like profiteroles or crumble.

He's a perfectly healthy size. But aibu to think this is unusual behaviour. He's just had a go at me because I raised my eyebrows when he was pouring out his massive bowl of Cheerios.

Hmmm, depends. I have what I would call “a bit of an overhang” and I have BMI of 20. It’s just where I store fat. I have had two children though which doesn’t help.

TheOriginalEmu · 29/05/2018 22:54

my ex is like this. over the years his weight has fluctuated from very thin, to a little overweight but he's never been fat at 44 is still the same size he was when we met when he was 25. i hate him.

siwel123 · 29/05/2018 22:58

I eat like that minus the kids meals Blush actually probably more Blush.
Why is it annoying? I'm sorry my body needs me to eat like that, I will let it know that everyone must eat the same amount of food.

LighthouseSouth · 29/05/2018 22:58

Jeez I walk five mikes a day mist days and I'd be huge on a quarter of that.

I had to give up weight training because I was so hungry.

This is why I don't believe what they say about cals in and cals out. My sister eats like your DH. Doesn't gain weight.

RedDwarves · 29/05/2018 23:01

He shouldn't be taking your kids' food from them. That's not on at all.

Doesn't sound like a particularly healthy diet, regardless of how much he's eating. The portions aren't necessarily the problem, but the content of what he's eating could be.

FreeMantle · 29/05/2018 23:03

He's a six foot one bloke!
That's not three dinners. It's a main meal, snack and I guess a pudding.
You wouldn't expect hi to eat the same as you?

LittleBirdBlues · 29/05/2018 23:11

Is he healthy? And I don't just mean weight.

My dad used to eat like this, he was always hungry and his portions were big. He could polish off two to three half kilo pots of yogurt in one evening, after having had his actual dinner. Always stayed very slim.

It turned out hat he had an overactive thyroid. Is appetite is much more normal after that's been sorted.

ShirleyPhallus · 29/05/2018 23:18

the 6 mile walk would burn a lot of calories which requires extra food to maintain his weight and energy level.

It really really doesn’t. Six miles isn’t a lot.

BougieCoconut · 29/05/2018 23:20

I think 6 miles is a lot and I’m pretty active (I do have dodgy knees though which may prejudice me)

Bahhhhhumbug · 29/05/2018 23:22

Sounds like pure greed to me, mainly when you said he takes the dcs food before they've finished

Aus84 · 29/05/2018 23:31

at about 100 calories per mile, 6 miles would be an entire meal.

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/05/2018 23:32

I have a 6'3 teenage boy who isn't quite as active as that, but eats half that and stays the same weight (BMI around 22).

He tends to have a normal bowl of cereal for breakfast with a fruit juice. Lunch he'll have a normal sandwich, a couple of bits of fruit and a biscuit or maybe a couple of slices of toast with poached egg or beans, dinner say maybe a chicken breast with wedges and veggies/salad. He might have a coffee and a biscuit of bit of toast in the afternoon and maybe a scone with jam or something in the evening with a glass of milk.

LovelyStrides · 29/05/2018 23:44

The bagel and apple will just make him hungry again soon after.

Including the apple?

Haffiana · 29/05/2018 23:47

Well I only eat a a carrot baton and a bit of hummus in a day, and I am definitely of the opinion that anyone who eats more than me is a glutton, unhealthy and greedy as well as inferior in other ways.

Bibesia · 29/05/2018 23:51

It sounds a bit as if he's slightly obsessive about eating, if he goes to the trouble of sending pictures of his lunch and is hovering over the children's plates ready to grab them before they're finished. I suspect that slight overhang will develop into one of those pregnant-looking stomachs if this carries on, even with the 6 mile walks.

00100001 · 29/05/2018 23:56

haffiana a whole baton? Gluttony

Personally I eat half a cherry tomato a day. Sometimes if I'm feeling hungry I might nibble at the second half.

e1y1 · 29/05/2018 23:58

That is WAY too much food, no one needs to eat that much at all.

6 miles walking would burn around 600 calories, the equivalent of ONE meal.

Of course if he isn’t overweight, then would suppose no real issue.

Wouldn’t want to stake a bet on his cholesterol, diabetes risk or dental health though....

Aus84 · 30/05/2018 00:01

Not for everyone, but based on what the OP is saying about her DH he could be one of those. Apples are high in sugar (fructose) and carbs so there is an immediate insulin response (although still good for you of course).

CoughLaughFart · 30/05/2018 00:14

OP - bear in mind before listening to any of the answers here that there is a weird competitiveness amongst certain MNers around how much (or rather how little) they eat. ‘You ate a WHOLE SLICE of bread and butter?!? I wouldn’t be able to move for a week!’

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 30/05/2018 00:15

You'd hate me then OP, breakfast was a large sausage butty from Cooplands and a banana. Lunch was ham and cheese sandwiches (plural) on brown, a nakd bar and an orange. For dinner, I ate half a large quiche lorraine with new potatoes, coleslaw, salad and more brown bread. I've just polished off another sandwich and a large bag of Galaxy counters.

Greedy and gluttinous? Fuck off would you, I have to work hard to keep weight on because I'm a naturally scrawny bastard. Sick of people assuming I eat nowt because of my size and now I'm being judged for eating lots. Can't bleedin' win.

lostpigeon · 30/05/2018 00:35

6 miles walking is absolutely nothing.

CoughLaughFart · 30/05/2018 00:36

Well no, it’s six miles.

Believeitornot · 30/05/2018 06:44

That doesn’t sound like a huge amount depending on exercise.

eggcellent · 30/05/2018 06:49

Why are you letting him steal food from your children like that? I'd be having sharp words.
