to expect family not to be ridiculed at my daughters birthday party?

Had a small 1st birthday party in the house on Sunday for my daughter, invited close family and friends. I was quite busy in the kitchen cooking buffet food ect so wasn't always in the thick of things.

Anyway, went and sat down on the couch with my sil and noticed a lot of giggling between her and mil/fil. As it turns out, sil has been having a right fucking laugh at my uncles choice of footwear (sandals, who even cares) and has been snapping photos of him on the sly and having a laugh about it (she showed me the photos, I didn't laugh but let it go at the time).

Am I unreasonable to be annoyed at this? My uncle left early before the cake cutting with an excuse and I can't help but feeling he knew he was being ridiculed! Terrible behaviour, I don't even think there's a point in bringing this up at all to my in laws because they'll just brush it off!

Look on the bright side - no need to invite them again to anymore parties.

I hope your anxiety dimiinishes. One of my children was poorly from birth and I found it affected me in freaking out about viruses and new stories about illnesses cos I knew what a virus could cause for my son. I found it gets easier. Flowers

OP - I have reported your post with the copy of the message as it contains names. Suggest you report as well to get MN attention to amend/delete.

@Home2Sell that's absolutely fine, thank you, I never really thought about the names!

Yes your silence will speak volumes.

@SM2132 I completely understand that, I'm very careful with sterilising and hygiene ect and when someone come in and just sticks a finger in my daughters mouth I just feel like all my hard work is for nothing!

I am a million times better than I was a few months ago though, I've been taking my daughter swimming, something that was an absolute no in my mind before, so it's a massive step for me!

Message has been taken down so haven't seen what you sent them but laughing at your uncle was unkind as is their treatment of your Dad. Well done for calling them out on it.

They sound like a nasty bullying family and the sort of people you would avoid if you did not have the misfortune to be related to them. I feel sorry for your DH. Re the licking of your daughters hand. Neither of my granddaughters (5 weeks and 2 and a half) have your daughters' health issues but I would not dream of doing what your SIL did to clean her hands. Get a wipe you lazy slob!!

Maybe in future limit contact and don't let them spoil what should have been a happy family occasion.

Good on you for calling them out OP.

LookMoreCloselier · 30/05/2018 17:00

Good for you op, people like that really need called out on it. As they sound like bellends in general, I'd recommend keeping more distance from them from now on.

You need to have a word with your DH because he needs to back you up on stuff like this.
