Moved into our house about 6 months ago.

Today dh was working in the loft and he found some kind of old porn magazine called Sun Lovers, looks like it could be from the 70s, tucked away under the insulation with an ancient Christmas tree fairy.

Pretty gross and went straight in the bin, it must have been up there years and years, before the previous owners.

What strange things have you found in your house when you've moved in?

I always wondered whether the new owners of my parents house, which they sold back in the 90's, found the snake that my brother left behind. Not his fault it escaped before they moved and refused to be recaptured.

The previous owners entire collection of shorts - 6 pairs. Just one high shelf he must have missed when packing...

QuackPorridgeBacon · 28/05/2018 17:25

minniemoll So you sold them... you didn’t think to find them but instantly thought to sell them? For a new shed... okay then.

BrownTurkey · 28/05/2018 17:25

Since they moved abroad without paying any bills we didn’t return them.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 28/05/2018 17:27

blaabloodyblaa That is funny but terrifying. I’m guessing just a small snake that couldn’t do any harm?

Lilacwine1 Did you ever find out anything more? Did you bring the remains to anyone? I’m invested now.

Nothing as scary as the above but recently cleaning a house we had bought from a family who had lived there for about 20+ years I had to lean right into the fitted wardrobes in the master bedroom to clean the top shelf and felt a box. I was initially very excited only to be disappointed to find a Thornton's chocolate Christmas penguin dated c.1998! ConfusedI had obviously found where the Christmas presents were kept hidden and this had got wedged out of sight and reach. I can only imagine how frustrated the mother must have been when she knew she had bought it but couldn't locate it and for all those years the penguin sat uneaten!

Quack I showed what I found to the neighbours to see if they knew anything, but they had only been living their between ten to fifteen years. I went to see the local vicar, and left skeleton and photo's with him, he said if he found anything out he would let me know.

The day before we left, he called round, he said he'd made some enquiries, but he had been told various stories. One old lady said a rumour passed down through the years in her family was, the couple had found the little thing in the garden, and it wasn't quite human. Another rumour was that they had bought it from a circus, or a gypsy. One day it just disappeared, and the couple said it had run away. The vicar said, he thought it had died, and rather than bury it where people might dig it up they must have put it in the little box, in the attic.

The vicar said he had buried it, and said a prayer. I very often wonder what the true story was, and what exactly it was.

TheEmmaDilemma · 28/05/2018 20:24

@Lilacwine1 Now that is creepy!

QuackPorridgeBacon · 28/05/2018 21:22

FoxyBoxter Did it taste good? Grin

Lilacwine1 Oh wow. Each story has its own weirdness to it. It’s nice that the remains were buried. Thank you for replying.

My godmother moved into her auctioned house where some squatters had been living and fled leaving all their stuff behind.

In a big drawer, she found lots of ripped up newspaper, a huge dildo, a pair of pants with a big poo still in it, and an Elvis wig. 🤢😂

velvetcandy · 29/05/2018 09:26

Last time i went to the dump one of the workers (who was a women, not sure it matters but anyway) had found a MASSIVE dildo and was showing everyone. To be fair it was pretty funny but maybe a bit inappropriate GrinGrinGrin

Slartybartfast · 29/05/2018 09:33

An old school photo which made me sad for the folks who left it behind.
a library card which made me tempted to use

sockunicorn · 29/05/2018 15:22

had found a MASSIVE dildo and was showing everyone

its the "and was showing everyone" that gets me. bet she was well pleased with herself Grin Grin Grin

I remember my cousins finding a packet of viagra in my uncles house when we were younger and running round showing everyone Blush.

Tipsylizard · 29/05/2018 16:02

A wedding dress in the loft along with a suit case of love letters. I contacted the estate agent who got back to.me and said previous owner said chuck them out..since she had divorced the husband. I couldn't bring myself to (i dont know why - it just seemed a bit sad?) So i left them in the loft for the next owner...after i got divorced. Hope the young couple who moved in after us are still married Grin

AwkwardPaws27 · 29/05/2018 16:25

A bin in the garden, full to the brim with disintegrating bags of dog shit.

It was too heavy to move, and I had to empty it by hand into many, many doubled-up bin bags.

That was a fun August afternoon.

velvetcandy · 29/05/2018 16:26

Yeah... and she said that the MASSIVE DILDO wasn't even the strangest thing she found that day (at the dump) ShockShockGrin

This might be the terribly sad baby story people are thinking of. It was found in 1997. I've thought of it often over the years.

MsP0b · 30/05/2018 15:21

Or this... http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/3877093.SkeletonoffbabyfounddinColnee_attic/

Just a few miles away from the pub in the previous case I posted. Strange and tragic.

Lilacwine1 · 30/05/2018 19:01

MsPOb it makes you wonder how many more are waiting to be found.

mavismcruet · 30/05/2018 19:35

My friend bought her house from an older couple who had built themselves a bungalow next door to move into. My friend was redecorating the bathroom and found 3 “sexy” photos of the wife including one full frontal legs akimbo tucked behind the bathroom cabinet!
7 years later and my friends husband is still making jokes about trimmed bushes when the neighbours are gardening Grin
