Moved into our house about 6 months ago.

Today dh was working in the loft and he found some kind of old porn magazine called Sun Lovers, looks like it could be from the 70s, tucked away under the insulation with an ancient Christmas tree fairy.

Pretty gross and went straight in the bin, it must have been up there years and years, before the previous owners.

What strange things have you found in your house when you've moved in?

Another thing found in this house was a large proportion of one bedroom ceiling covered in bogies. I think there must have been bunk beds in this room and the occupant of the top bunk had a snot problem. It actually took Nitromors to remove the stalactites.

BlooBagoo · 28/05/2018 01:08

My last house had previously been occupied by a hoarder, the landlord had emptied the house but had somehow missed a large cupboard in the hallway. It was packed full of boxes of books, bits of wood, twine, half a dozen demijohns, a huge box of porn magazines and page 3 girls which had been cut out of the paper, and a rabbit's skull in a jar.

Haudyerwheesht · 28/05/2018 01:11

In the attic a hamster cage complete with hay and wheel and food in the bowl. Bit on top was open and no 🐹

Haudyerwheesht · 28/05/2018 01:13

Also a bird cage attached to the ceiling. We only lived there a few months and the ceilings were very high so I never checked if there was a budgie skeleton

QuackPorridgeBacon · 28/05/2018 01:18

Absolutely fuck all. Really dirty council house that had to be completely stripped of anything and everything due to the destruction by cats and lack of care. Unless lots of cat hair in the electric fireplace thing counts? But I don’t think so.

FissionChips · 28/05/2018 01:23

this homemade wank vessel made out of an milk carton

Shock

This thread is creepy as hell, the faceless Mary is going to give me nightmares!

HesterHare · 28/05/2018 01:34

A stone on the garden that someone had sharpied on "not sold, I don't accept it"

rosylea · 28/05/2018 01:41

Rented an old lady's house for a year in the 70's, while she went to Australia. In a cupboard upstairs found a row of large bullets on a belt (the sort you'd see in action movies in the jungle or something)

ThistleAmore · 28/05/2018 01:42

A story so fantastic I would scoff at it, had it not happened to me...we lifted some crunky old linoleum in our hall cupboard, and found sheets of newspaper underneath which were dated to the exact day and year of my birthday.

I was initially a bit creeped out, but now I think that this house knows it's my house, and I belong to it - if ever there's anything wrong, or any DIY that needs doing, it responds much better to me than to my OH. I know it's silly and woo, but I find it comforting. Wink

riceuten · 28/05/2018 01:43

Not me, but a friend's sister in Walthamstow found something like 20 computer monitors buried in the back garden, and 30 pairs of knickers.

That's it. No human bones, no dead dogs or p()rn.

Solo · 28/05/2018 01:46

In this house a very old penny on a shelf in a built-in cupboard. A huge vintage lampshade with no frame to attach it to anything in the loft along with an ironing board, and a trouser press. In the kitchen on top of the top wall cabinets, I found passport photos of the bloke along with a new, unopened pack of serviettes with blue hearts all over them.

My last house had lots of cooking things in it; I still have the pottery mixing bowl and the stone ginger beer bottle complete with the screw lid.

rosylea · 28/05/2018 01:48

Also, a council flat where someone had drawn a dagger dripping blood on the back of a cupboard door! Thanks for the faceless Mary, Einsteins, now daren't get out of bed for the loo.Grin

Sweetpea55 · 28/05/2018 02:05

In my last house I found piles of recorded call outs to patients, times, address's, names, and details of what was wrong with them. The bloke who lived there was an ambulance man.

ChocDee · 28/05/2018 02:27

In amongst everything else we found when we moved here; the biggest thing we found was a field.

Yup, a whole field we didn't know was ours. Right there in front of us next to the barn containing rusty old farm equipment.

That was an awkward conversation with the neighbour when he gently explained our boundaries to us. We had only been there a year.

DawnHaze · 28/05/2018 03:04

Cupboard under the stairs - the wooden panel at the back gave way to reveal a big old leather suitcase full of very old (full) bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale.

Smile1978 · 28/05/2018 03:25

I found in the loft of a house I grew up in a collection of ww2 love letters between husband and wife.Husband was in the RAF and the wife was writing about her work in London and sorting what was a new house out.Tracked down the daughter of the deceased couple who said oh just bin them.I couldn't and still have them thinking of donating to war museum

TheOnlyAletheia · 28/05/2018 03:48

A dead cat buried under the door threshold, an 1825 silver coin, and witch marks on our barn wall.

TheOnlyAletheia · 28/05/2018 03:48

Oh yes, an a mummified hamster in a Nescafé jar.

PastaOfMuppets · 28/05/2018 03:58

What are witch marks?!

BalthazarImpresario · 28/05/2018 09:49

80s porn under the carpet.

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 28/05/2018 09:49

rosylea and Bugjune, we've lived here 10years and faceless Mary is still resides in the attic. I'm too shit scared to move it! Grin

LancashireTea · 28/05/2018 10:25

A huge framed wedding photo and a suitcase full of old letters and bits of teenage girl tat.

That was in and amongst all the other crap that the previous owners has left in the loft and filled the garage with. We ended up having to hire someone to clear out all of their crap.

Buster72 · 28/05/2018 10:30

A Bros poster from 1988

Don't bin the vintage porn. It can be sold for a pretty penny.

I am aware of an incident where some builders were renovating a house and found the body of a child in a suitcase behind a boarded up chimney breast.

AjasLipstick · 28/05/2018 11:18

Pasta patterns scratched into stone or wood on some old buildings...there to protect against witches/evil eye/curses.

They're often made up of circles. Found on lintels, round windows and doors and sometimes fireplaces. The entrances to old homes and barns basically. Barns because that's a place where valuable things were found...animals and crops.
