Overreacting at DH giving out his number to a woman

I noticed DH had a text on his phone from an unknown number and I asked who it was from and he told me it was from a customer, he is taxi driver and they got chatting on a run. He didn't text her back and it was a harmless text.

I feel a little betrayed by this and I told him that it's disrespectful to be giving his number out to women that aren't friends. He promised that he was just being friendly and didn't know how to say no to giving his number out. He didn't realise that she probably thought he was interested in her. We talked it out but I feel guilty for being annoyed at this situation.

Giving your number to someone means you are expecting some future contact. Ask him what kind of contact he was expecting. I take it she already had the number of the taxi company for future business and your DH doesn't take bookings on his personal phone.

Ask him if hes ever given his number to a male client before and if not why not?

He seems naive.

He also (inadvertently, I'm sure) led on this woman, which was unfair. I am single, and if a man who was not a friend or a colleague gave me his number, I'd assume he wanted to chat/see me again.

In your place I'd have been beyond pissed off.

It's quite easy to say "sorry, I'm married so don't give my number to random women".

Reverse it for a minute op, would you give your number to a random bloke on a night out just because you didn't know how to say no?

buster I'm assuming op's dh works for a taxi company in which case the woman clearly had the correct number with which to book a taxi. I've never known a taxi driver to take bookings on their personal mobile number.

Was it not just that she was a customer who wanted a reliable taxi number, hence asking? I’ve occasionally had individual drivers from companies I use give me their mobile numbers in case I wanted to negotiate a private fare for an airport run or something. Some people do jobs off the books.

I think it’s a giant leap of the imagination to think she was making a pass at him in his taxi!

Yes it is, if you're expecting it or used to it. If someone asks you out of the blue you're put on the spot & don't want to appear rude, particularly if you're in a work situation. It wasn't a problem text and he didn't reply. Where's the issue? He now knows not to do it again. End of story.

Oh, and, thinking about it further, I do know people who like having a taxi driver’s mobile so they can try to circumvent the base and potential long waits at peak times, though that must be more difficult now that the base can presumably see where each car is.

But I still think it’s unlikely that this fare asked him for his number because she fancied him — if she did, it would make more sense to give him hers, and it seems fairly improbable that she was struck by violent attraction in the back of a taxi!

@BusterGonad she has the taxi number. He gave his personal number that isn't used for work.

Oh my, unless your husbands a complete moron with women, and I'm guessing he's not, as he has managed to sustain a relationship with you and get you to believe his crap, then we all know there is a reason she asked for his number and a reason he gave it,

He was flirting and intended to take this further. There is no two ways about it, you know it and that's why you're annoyed.
