To tell DH he is pronouncing DD’s name wrong.

DD is mainly known as a shortening of her name. Occasionally we call her the full versio. However I have noticed DH pronounces it in a different way to how I have ever heard it pronounced. I assumed there was just one pronunciation of it. I’m wondering if it would be reasonable to point it out? Or do I just live with it.

Did you not say it out loud together before naming her it?! Confused

BuntyII · 27/05/2018 09:01

YANBU. Just say, why are you saying it like that? Next time he says it.

GinIsIn · 27/05/2018 09:01

How did this not come up when you picked the name? Confused

What’s the name? Are you sure he’s the one getting it wrong?

Aprilmightbemynewname · 27/05/2018 09:01

What did you agree when you chose the name?

frasier · 27/05/2018 09:02

Does he have an accent?

TwitterQueen1 · 27/05/2018 09:02

I think this is perhaps one of those seemingly rare occasions that warrants a conversation with your DH.....

If you cannot even discuss how to pronounce your child's name there is no hope for your marriage.

RainySeptember · 27/05/2018 09:02

I think it's fairly obvious that you need to point out that he's pronouncing it wrong. She can't have her own dad mispronouncing her name, that's mad. Unless it's something a bit contentious and you could be pronouncing it wrong.

mookinsx · 27/05/2018 09:03

What's the name?

Canwejustrelaxnow · 27/05/2018 09:03

Reminds me of Catastrophe.

Alienspaceship · 27/05/2018 09:04

Could it be you that’s wrong? There’s an assumption here that you’re right...

rubberducker · 27/05/2018 09:04

Do you come from different regions, so it's an accent thing? And are you absolutely sure it's not an accepted alternative pronunciation?

We have neighbours who pronounce their daughter's full name slightly different to each other. They seem to just get on with it.

EssentialHummus · 27/05/2018 09:05

Reminds me of Catastrophe.

Grin If ever there was a thread that had “Irish name” written all over it, this’d be it.

Eminybob · 27/05/2018 09:07

My dh does this.
We have a son called William.

I pronounce it will-e-am, he pronounces it will-yam. Drives me nuts and I’ve correcte him, but it’s just the way he says it.

Eminybob · 27/05/2018 09:08

Actually will-e-um and will-yum are probably more accurate.

Snowysky20009 · 27/05/2018 09:11

We need to know the name.....

MiddleClassProblem · 27/05/2018 09:11

Yes, what happened when naming the baby? Surely you heard him say it then?

Maybe his way is better...

Waggingmyginger · 27/05/2018 09:11

It's not unusual to say Will-yam. More like Wilhelm. Will - ee-am is less usual.

Gamecharger · 27/05/2018 09:13

A friend refers to her son Harry as 'arry sounds awful!

opinionatedfreak · 27/05/2018 09:13

Second all the others asking about regional accents.

The recent Ev-lyn vs Eve-lyn debate on here made me realize how much regional variation there is....

confusedlittleone · 27/05/2018 09:14

I'm confused as to why you didn't discuss the pronunciation before naming her? And why you've just decided he's wrong?

Lindy2 · 27/05/2018 09:15

Eminybob - Where I live your DH would be pronouncing William correctly. Your pronounciation would be odd.

SoyDora · 27/05/2018 09:15

When you discussed the name prior to naming your child, did you not realise your DH said it differently to you?

footballmum · 27/05/2018 09:15

Maybe you’re saying wrong and he’s saying it right?!

MarthaArthur · 27/05/2018 09:16

Something like naomi that can be pronounced differently? How have you not noticed how he says it before?

Albadross · 27/05/2018 09:16

My DF went through a weird phase of mispronouncing my full name. Imagine I was Alice and he would say 'Aless'. Then he just stopped doing it. No idea why.
