To tell DH he is pronouncing DD’s name wrong.

DD is mainly known as a shortening of her name. Occasionally we call her the full versio. However I have noticed DH pronounces it in a different way to how I have ever heard it pronounced. I assumed there was just one pronunciation of it. I’m wondering if it would be reasonable to point it out? Or do I just live with it.

I know a Danielle
Her mum calls Her Danni yell
Her dad calls her Dan yell

HOW CAN THEY NOT HEAR THE DIFFERENCE

ToadOfSadness · 27/05/2018 09:17

Wiwyum also seems to be used for William.

PhilODox · 27/05/2018 09:18

Reminds me of someone I know who had spent twenty years pronouncing his wife's name wrong- she was so lovely about it! Smile
Children can easily accept that parents say things slightly differently. Will it upset him if you raise it?
Maybe his is the correct way?

Aprilmightbemynewname · 27/05/2018 09:18

I pulled ds's teachers up many times for putting a 'W' in his name when there isn't one!!

PurpleDaisies · 27/05/2018 09:18

Why does it matter?

How do you know you’re right?

PhilODox · 27/05/2018 09:19

Ha, April, is he a Noah?

OliveOrTwist · 27/05/2018 09:19

I really want to know the name... Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 27/05/2018 09:20

We really need to hear this name to see who’s right Grin

MiniAlphaBravo · 27/05/2018 09:21

In my accent l sounds a bit like w sometimes. Kind of rude to correct someone’s accent.

SimonBridges · 27/05/2018 09:22

How did you never notice this before?

Kraggle · 27/05/2018 09:22

I have this with dd and FIL, dd is a Josephine which I pronounce with a ‘s’ sound ‘Jo se phine’ and ‘Josie’, FIL pronounces it with a ‘z’ sound so ‘Jo ze phine’ and ‘Jozee’ I figured it was just an accent thing and let it go. Thankfully dh pronounces it my way!

SimonBridges · 27/05/2018 09:23

I agree about the ll in William sounding like a W. In the accent here it would sound like that.
Accent is very different to mispronouncing.

SimonBridges · 27/05/2018 09:24

Anyway. How is it that you DH is pronouncing it wrong? You might be the one getting it wrong.

Aprilmightbemynewname · 27/05/2018 09:25

Roan

KlutzyDraconequus · 27/05/2018 09:25

I less it's a weird name, who gives a shiny shit really?

my DD has a name that can be pronounced two way, as long as she's not called Bitchy McBitchface I don't care how someone says it. her mum says it the opposite to how i do.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 27/05/2018 09:25

My DH and I pronounce DS1's full name differently but that's because he's Australian and I'm British. We say the short name the same.

Cuppaoftea · 27/05/2018 09:27

Depends if it's a regional accent thing or if he is actually pronouncing her full name wrong.

Like if she's Eliza pronounced 'E-lye-zah' for short and he calls her 'E-lye-zah-beth' instead of 'E-liz-a-beth' then yes I would ask him to pronounce her full name correctly.

Eminybob · 27/05/2018 09:27

Yeah I know will-yum is a valid pronunciation, I just prefer my way!

DuchessOfNorfolk · 27/05/2018 09:30

It isn’t a regional thing. We come from the same town.

Can people not just put this down to accent and get over it?

If my name were Esme, I don't think I'd get my knickers in a twist if someone says ezz-mee or ezz-may. The name is the same.

( I have a name that was mispronounced throughout my childhood because I grew up overseas. It's not a name easy for non-native English speakers to say.

VelvetSpoon · 27/05/2018 09:31

Is it 'wrong though or just different?

I mean yes if her names Siobhan and he is pronouncing it See-ob-han or sonething then yes clearly wrong.

But as per the name thread that someone referenced earlier, there is more than one pronunciation of a name - Tanya is a good one, I know several people with that name, some prefer Tann-ya and others Tarn-ya. Neither is wrong.

BettyPitts · 27/05/2018 09:31

Eee lane ya
Ellll enn a

Heratnumber7 · 27/05/2018 09:31

This thread means nothing unless we go to s vote.
What is the name, and how does each of you pronounce it?
I bet someone on MN will come up with a third way

MiddleClassProblem · 27/05/2018 09:32

We need the name!

Reeebecca, Ribecca?

Dobbythesockelf · 27/05/2018 09:32

I don't understand how this was not noticed when she was first named. If it is due to different accents then he may find it difficult to say it your way. If a name has a few ways of saying it your dd will have to get used to hearing it said in various ways anyway.
