DH has three dcs from before our relationship, we have 1 dd together. She is 8mo. DH works long hours so she spends the majority of her time with me. I feel selfish and horrible but I'm angry she hasn't said mama first. She is constantly shouting dada. She can also say hiya and wave. I'm gutted. We won't be having any more children.
What did your dcs say first?

Dada. I think most of them do because d is easier to say than m.

Totally it’s just easier. Doesn’t mean anything

dada is a much easier sound to make than mama - hence it get said first it means nothing

Children generally do learn to say ‘dada’ first because it’s physically easier for them to mimic and say. Don’t take it to heart

Look. I understand, but in the great scheme of things, it's really no biggie. There are gonna be 101 things coming along verrrrrrrrrry soon that piss you off way more.

Its just easier to say don't take it personally.

My friends DD said dada long before mama and she never had her dad in her life, so hadn't even heard the word really.

In a year or so you will be greatful when she is asking for dad and not you

My lo said mama first but I've heard that's it's more common to say dada first because it's easier or something like that. It's understandable you'd want her to say mama first, like you say, you're the main care giver but it's no sign of favouritism on her part, it's just a word that's she's learnt. I'm sure you're her world so try not to take it to heart and you'll soon forget about it when she starts saying mama!

I might be wrong, but I think it's easier for a baby to say dada & many of them say it before they say mama.

Don't take it to heart - though I agree it's annoying. I actually can't remember what my DC said first.

DD said "skip" as in the crisps.

I know it feels like a big deal but in the nicest possible way it's absolutely not a reflection on you.

At nappy changing time I used to chat by babbling mu mu mu mu mummy. Got me nowhere 😂

My first said baba first and then dada. My 8 month old hasn't said anything yet. As pp have said dada is apparently easier than mama.

I had to wait 2.5 years to hear mummy! Before that I got screamed at.

DD also said Dada many weeks before saying mama (despite DH being away a lot and me being a full time, devoted mother breastfeeding on demand and never letting her cry). It is apparently natural in language development, because dada is easier to say than mama. She did however say mmmmmmmm and I suppose that was mama.
I think it is common to say dada first, and is no reflection on her preferences at all😍 but a natural development stage.

Its Standard speech development - doesn't mean she isn't wanting to say mama,it's just that the d sound comes first!

Yup dada here too. Definitely easier to say. In fact, DS1 (a very early talker) could identify several types of car correctly before he deigned to say mama!

The reason dads are called dad is because that is a babies first sound usually so thats where the word came from. Totally nothing to do with your dh being better than you. You have years of chatting with your little one. And when she says Mom for the 20th time that day you will think " can you not call your Dad for once!".
I have 3 grown up dc. The amount of chat, happy, sad, funny, serious, calm, crazy we have had over the years and continue to have from all parts of the world is unreal. Focus on the joy ahead.

Err well DD1’s first word was ‘Peppa’ and DD2’s was ‘cake’. No idea whether they said ‘mama’ or ‘dada’ first. It’s usually just a sound rather than an actual word in context when they first say it isn’t it?
I think being angry about it is a massive overreaction.

Muuuhhhhh (feed me) eventually morphed into Muuummmmeeeee (still meant 'feed me' though).

It was ages before I was 'Mummy' in my own right and not just wanted as a food source.

My friends little girls said daddy and alfie and Mabel (the dogs!) before mummy!

It’s just a sound. Both of mine said dada First.

I remember my mum waiting for “nanny” for ages, much later than grandpa. Then it started and it never bloody stopped.

Oh and somewhere after 'muuuhhhhh' we realised that 'daddy' was any adult that wasn't me or 'adad'!

DS said 'Captain America' before he said either mummy or daddy. He has a weird speech delay though.

So it could be worse.
