After reading another thread about SAHMs I am curious about what people would say about SAHWs, I know you will all say it should just be unemployed but if the person isn't looking for a job then are they really in that catagory?

Could you respect or be friends with a woman who didn't work and earn or at least look after her children?

Just curious!

No, it's unlikely I'd be friends with either sex who didn't work.

I can't see what we would have in common. No work ethic, no sense of personal responsibility, no drive etc. It just seems very selfish and lazy.

Men get slated for expecting a woman to keep them yet lots of women believe it's their right.

Cheto · 24/05/2018 23:52

Omg... what the fuck does it matter what some other woman does??? I don't give a shit what my friends do... work all the hours god send to get a career, work part time , live off their husbands... makes no odds to me ... no idea why anyone would not be friends with someone just cos of their life choices Confused

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/05/2018 00:02

Really?life is all about choices we make and how we judge other’s choices
no idea why anyone would not be friends with someone just cos of their life choices if I had a friend whose life choice was Far right prejudice I couldn’t be their friend
Life choices are how we raise our kids,it’s significant

BustopherJones · 25/05/2018 00:06

I’d be interested as to how you would define ‘work ethic’ @Boxsets. I definitely wouldn’t do any work I didn’t enjoy if I didn’t have to. I’ve got loads of creative projects I’d work on, and other stuff I’d love to do. Better that someone who needs the work does it in my opinion.

Cheto · 25/05/2018 00:08

@LipstickHandbagCoffee life choices and beliefs are different IMO

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/05/2018 00:08

My beliefs inform my life choices

Cheto · 25/05/2018 00:10

@LipstickHandbagCoffee you could still be a far right and work full time or be a SAHW... they differ

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/05/2018 00:14

Omg... what the fuck does it matter what some other woman does???
I don't give a shit what my friends do

See here the rub I do give a shit what some other person does if it’s offensive or ideologically jars with my beliefs I care. You’ll find most people do

Cheto · 25/05/2018 00:17

@LipstickHandbagCoffee ok I'm not trying to be goady or whatever but I genuinely think if my friend decides to be a SAHW and doesn't support nazis etc then I'm not gonna fall out with her just cos she decides to live off her husband , that's all i mean

SleepingStandingUp · 25/05/2018 00:18

I worked from part time in school at 16 ask through Uni to graduate job at 22 to baby at 33. Never or I'd work for more than a few weeks between each geographical move. So you'd have happily been my friend for over a decade but dropped me at 33 at worse point in my life because I no longer have a job??

spontaneousgiventime · 25/05/2018 00:19

Quite. It doesn't effect you at all, just like I have friends in all kinds of employment and none, it doesn't effect me at all.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/05/2018 00:19

I don’t think your goady in least, I’m simply not laissez faire about life choices
Mine or other people

irishgardenermum · 25/05/2018 00:20

I made a flippant remark hours ago but I did have an actual point to make. The planet we live on just can't sustain the current model of most adults working 40 hours a week with the associated commuting and consuming. In the next hundred years lifestyles and work practices are going to change in ways we can't even imagine today and if they don't we'll be extinct. So being defined by you job/economic activity is going to change too. That's a good reason to not stress about stuff like this IMO and concentrate instead on bringing up the next generation to be environmentally aware problem solvers .

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/05/2018 00:24

Lovely utopian waffle.
Actually the research is some complex face to face jobs eg health/social care cannot be automated due to complexity and irregularities there’s no algorithm . And as result these jobs remain face to face

Cheto · 25/05/2018 00:29

Sherry o'clock out in full force WineGin

Imapudding · 25/05/2018 00:36

It wouldn’t be for me, well maybe it would. Only if we were very wealthy and I’d have a string of competition horses to keep me busy and I’d be trying to make some money out of my ‘hobby’ if that makes sense.

Would never judge anyone else on what works for them though. Not sure why going to work defines us as a person nowadays?

StickThatInYourPipe · 25/05/2018 00:39

The only judgement from me would be a massive dose of jealousy tbh

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/05/2018 00:40

What’s your point Cheto?who is sherry o clock?

Fabricwitch · 25/05/2018 00:40

Tbh it would depend what they did all day.
If they can afford to and both partners are happy, I certainly wouldn't judge.
But if they didn't have anything more interesting to talk about that what colour they got their nails done, and going to the gym (one of my SILs was a SAHW for a while and all she did was go to the gym, and get beauty treatments) then it would be really hard for me to keep up a friendship with them.

Cheto · 25/05/2018 00:44

@LipstickHandbagCoffee errrrr that would be you Hmm

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/05/2018 00:46

Err?oh I see you’re making lame put downs?quite bizzare of you

Cheto · 25/05/2018 00:48

@LipstickHandbagCoffee no not really .. but what the hell are you on about 'utopian waffle' do normal people even talk like that ??? Confused

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/05/2018 00:49

Well clearly I speak like that, and evidently it causes you consternation

Cheto · 25/05/2018 00:51

@LipstickHandbagCoffee lol more big words .. you're so clever

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/05/2018 00:53

Your debating skills leave a lot to be desired cheto,it’s quite prosaic
