To want to shout about my new bras from the rooftops?!

THANK YOU to whoever it was who told me about the boob or bust method on here a few months ago. For YEARS I've been wearing a 38G as I was told that's what I was in M&S. I knew it wasn't right, my back isn't 38 inches and if I bent over I'd get the hideous double boob Shock

Measured myself using boob or bust and came out as a 32J or 34JJ. Went for 34JJ and ordered a load of Curvy Kate and Flirtelle bras in the brastop sale. They arrived about an hour ago and I've just been prancing around with the mum tum flying in all directions in my new bras. I feel AMAZING. They're comfortable, they manage to lift up my (huge) boobs and not make them look saggy, they look GOOD.

So it turns out I'm two back sizes and FIVE cup sizes (GG, H, I, J, JJ) bigger than I was previously wearing! No wonder I always had bloody back pain.

Just wanted to shout about it for all the women in the back who haven't tried it yet, or still trust in the outdated method M&S and a few other places use.

I AM SO HAPPY Grin

The bra intervention method widely touted by MNers gives a different result to the BoB one. Which is right and which is wrong?

I've tried it, and BoB seems to give larger cup sizes than the bra intervention method.
In any case, both are starting points. None of them replaces trying bras. Because brands and models can differ.

KirstenRaymonde · 25/05/2018 12:03

SoupDragon we can argue between two slightly different methods - the shape of the bra will also make a difference so yes it’s a starting point. Wanting to stay in something which is clearly miles away from the right size is a different matter. I’d think the same about someone who was a size 20 in clothes insisting on wearing a size 10. Maybe they’re an 18 or a 22 in different shops, the 10 is still wildly wrong.

Roussette · 25/05/2018 13:00

I've just been to try my new size on and it was not good. I've always thought I was 38D or DD and this measuring put me at 36F. I tried on 3 bras of that size and one the cups were too loose and flappy and the other two (which were thin with no padding in them at all) had my boobs pushed apart so much giving me a peculiar cleavage!

I've got to keep trying!

Lweji · 25/05/2018 14:14

Do try 36E too, or different brands and models.

Last time I went bra shopping, I was given about six different types by an experienced fitter and only two fitted properly. All the same size (28FF, which is not that big).

dotdotdot12 · 25/05/2018 14:19

I always wore a 34g - just put my measurements in and it says I'm a 32k ShockShockShock

keyboardjellyfish · 25/05/2018 14:28

Bravissimo have measured me as 38GG but I'm still struggling with the bras so I will do this as soon as I find my tape measure! Thanks for this OP!

Roussette · 25/05/2018 14:36

Yes, I did try one cup size down and it was better, it was just there was no selection there and didn't like the style.

OlennasWimple · 25/05/2018 15:09

Shape and style matters so much, I find - I can't wear full cup styles or ones that have high fronts, but plunge styles work very well on me

VetOnCall · 25/05/2018 16:29

I was talking to a friend about this yesterday and sent her the BoB website link on this thread, as I did so I realised that it was the bra intervention that I had done before when I came up as a 28E so I re-measured myself BoB style and it says I'm a 28GG Shock My boobs really are not big at all. I might order a few 28F/G/GGs from Brastop (if I can find any!) to try, in the hope that I might get to say that I have GG cup boobs Grin

Cellardoor23 · 25/05/2018 17:41

I've done measurements on both BoB and the bra intervention method and my bra size came out the same. Bravissimo measured me 4 cup sizes smaller a few months back, which is quite a big jump (to me anyway) I don't know which one to believe!

Justasec · 25/05/2018 17:56

Will give this a go later, as a broad of back but small of boob person, I've always struggled to find anything comfy. Had a polite argument in m&s the other weekend about fitting my DD for first proper bra. She didn't want a stranger seeing her without clothes so we did some measuring at home then I just took loads into changing room to try. They kept insisting I should let them do it, I kept saying no. They kept saying I shouldn't give her the 'adult' bras, she needed one from the teen section (flimsy things with tiny straps that she found p cut in). I ignored them and we came out out with several she loves, none of which they would have offered her to try. Sigh.

cakeflower · 25/05/2018 20:52

Is it even possible for boob or bust to measure someone as an a, b or c?! Everyone seems to be told they have an outsize cup size. Boob or bust told me I was 34hh. I tried that on in bravissimo and it looked ludicrous. I have gone back to what I thought I was, 38dd. Still have no idea what to think.

earlybirdhasanap · 25/05/2018 21:02

On the back of this thread I used the bob method, ordered two bras. I was wearing a 36c now I'm wearing a 30f and my boobs look great.
A total revelation.

Voice0fReason · 25/05/2018 21:20

Voice0fReason a 10/12 is more likely to be a 30/32, and even then it’s not certain.
@KirstenRaymonde you misunderstood what I was saying. I'm not saying her bra band would be 34/36, I was saying that a size 10/12 top would be fitted for a 34/36" bust. So her bra band size could not possibly be 38.

@cakeflower try a few different styles and sizes.
Put a 34HH on backwards to see if the band fits. If it does, try a H or GG.
Remember that once you have put the bra on, you need to scoop your whole boob into the cup.

RedPandaMama · 25/05/2018 22:38

I do agree that no one seems to come out as an A B or C doing the BOB method... But it does seem almost universal that people are much happier wearing their new (massive) bra sizes!

Enjoyed wearing my bra today Grin my boobs look so perky or as perky as 34J boobs possibly can look

beIindaBlinked · 25/05/2018 23:05

I usually wear a 46C and it's telling me to try a 42GG !!!

KirstenRaymonde · 25/05/2018 23:46

cakeflower That’s the thing, they’re not outsizes, we’ve just been conditioned to think they are. An E or an F isn’t that big and both are very common. A true A or B is pretty uncommon. Someone women are very small busted, but the vast majority have more than one or two inches difference from their ribs, which is what an A or B is. There’s just such a misunderstanding of how bra sizes work.

Lweji · 26/05/2018 00:00

Boob or bust told me I was 34hh. I tried that on in bravissimo and it looked ludicrous.

Did you ask for fitting advice? It's possible that hh was too big for you, but assistants should have helped you find a better fit.

Lweji · 26/05/2018 00:11

So, I've actually taken my measures and BoB gives me a 28G, but I was recently fitted, my new bras fit me well, as I did try a bigger size, and know I'm a 28FF.

So, I can conclude that BoB is slightly too generous on the cup. Maybe because I have heavy boobs and they drop a lot.

So, unless you have very perky, full on top boobs, I'd maybe start at BoB size, but go down one or two cup sizes.

ScoobyGangMember · 26/05/2018 06:51

Does this method work with M&S bras? Or does the M&S measuring method work with their own bras but no-one else's?

KirstenRaymonde · 26/05/2018 07:17

ScoobyGangMember M&S measuring is just wrong, it doesn’t work with their own bras. But you can use this method and then go into M&S and buy a bra in the right size. It’s their method that’s the issue, not the bras themselves.

KirstenRaymonde · 26/05/2018 07:18

Lweji usually gives a range to allow for breast shape doesn’t it? Last time I did it it said 32E or 32F, I’m definitely a 32E.

Roussette · 26/05/2018 07:39

So, unless you have very perky, full on top boobs, I'd maybe start at BoB size, but go down one or two cup sizes

I think this is spot on Lweji. I've just been through my bras.
I'm on the bigger size at the moment because of a knee injury and having to restrict some gym exercise so my boobs are full on at the bottom and saggy with age
BoB has me at 36F currently but the cups are too big when I tried one on yesterday. I have so many bras and found one that was 36E and it fitted me perfectly so I think for now that is my size. So yes BoB but drop a cup size or two!

Gwenhwyfar · 26/05/2018 09:47

I was sceptical about the bra intervention, but changed my mind after trying it myself - went from a 34B to a 32C or even a 32D in one bra. Problem is that 32Cs aren't easily available and I don't want to buy online.
I do also hear about people who've done the bra intervention taking their bras off when they come home from work so it seems it leads to an uncomfortable bra for some.

Lweji · 26/05/2018 09:54

Well fitted bras are tight, so after a long day it may feel good to let loose. But I have similar feelings with skinny jeans, tights and socks.
However, with a well fitted bra, you shouldn't feel it there more than other items of fitted clothes.
