To want to shout about my new bras from the rooftops?!

THANK YOU to whoever it was who told me about the boob or bust method on here a few months ago. For YEARS I've been wearing a 38G as I was told that's what I was in M&S. I knew it wasn't right, my back isn't 38 inches and if I bent over I'd get the hideous double boob Shock

Measured myself using boob or bust and came out as a 32J or 34JJ. Went for 34JJ and ordered a load of Curvy Kate and Flirtelle bras in the brastop sale. They arrived about an hour ago and I've just been prancing around with the mum tum flying in all directions in my new bras. I feel AMAZING. They're comfortable, they manage to lift up my (huge) boobs and not make them look saggy, they look GOOD.

So it turns out I'm two back sizes and FIVE cup sizes (GG, H, I, J, JJ) bigger than I was previously wearing! No wonder I always had bloody back pain.

Just wanted to shout about it for all the women in the back who haven't tried it yet, or still trust in the outdated method M&S and a few other places use.

I AM SO HAPPY Grin

Not sure if anyone has asked this yet - sorry, haven't read all the thread - but what about the back fat? I find that if I go down a chest size and up a couple of cup sizes I get back fat 😳🙄

positivepineapple · 24/05/2018 18:35

So I've measured, apparently I'm a 30H.

I'll definitely purchase a bra to try in this size. If I've found the solution to my slippy straps I will be over the moon! 😊

Lweji · 24/05/2018 18:41

I'm desperate to stage a bra intervention on her!

I took my mum last time I went bra shopping. She didn't tell me what size she got, but she bought three. Grin

Voice0fReason · 24/05/2018 22:14

If you are really convinced that a 28/30/32" band would too far too tight, despite a tape measuring you at that size, try putting the bra on backwards to see if the band fits. If it is still too tight, go up a band size, if it fits ok, go up in cup size.

Frax · 24/05/2018 22:45

KirstenRaymonde I'm a size 10 / 12 but any bra smaller than a 38 is too tight around me. I get an A cup because I couldn't fill a B cup.
I've tried 34 and 36 but they still feel tight. Frankly I prefer bra-less ....

Voice0fReason · 24/05/2018 23:03

Frax a size 10/12 is a 34/36" bust. Your band size cannot possibly be 38". If 34/36 feel too tight, it's because the cups are far too small.
There is no such thing as filling a B cup because the cup of a 38B is much bigger than a 30B.
I suspect you prefer to go braless because you are wearing the wrong size bra and it feels uncomfortable. You have found a size that you can tolerate but it is most certainly the wrong size for you.

KirstenRaymonde · 24/05/2018 23:58

Frax you’re misunderstanding how bra fitting works. If the cup is still too small a 36 won’t fit. I’m a 12 and I’m a 32E. A 32C wouldn’t fit around me, the cup size changes the band as well. I’ve added another photo showing how the cup size differs on different bands. There’s no way you’re a 38 anything at a 10/12, please do the boob or bust calculator and trust it!

KirstenRaymonde · 24/05/2018 23:59

Voice0fReason a 10/12 is more likely to be a 30/32, and even then it’s not certain. My aunt is a 30FF and she’s a size 16.

CollyWombles · 25/05/2018 00:15

Yanbu! Two weeks ago I went and got measured and found out for the last 8 years I had been wearing the wrong size and style of bra. I went from a 34c to a 32DD! From balconette to t-shirt. And two weeks on I still feel amazing in my bras. You enjoy it!

AGnu · 25/05/2018 00:39

I'm a 28FF according to the Bra Guru method but BoB says 28GG. Am currently wearing 30FF left over from my initial postnatal days but it's definitely somewhat loose. Baby is now 6m but I still want nursing bras - anyone know where I can get a 28FF nursing bra that isn't ugly? I've only found one in that size so far & it's not particularly attractive!

soupforbrains · 25/05/2018 01:27

I have a day off tomorrow. I think I've discovered what I'm going to be doing with my morning. 😁

123MothergotafleA · 25/05/2018 01:50

Has anyone ever found M&S to have done a correct bra fitting?
IMO it's no wonder they're going down the pan.

positivepineapple · 25/05/2018 08:17

I've ordered a 30H from Bravissimo to try. I've also urged all my friends to try the method.

Question is, if I've found my holy grail size. What the hell do I do with the millions of barely worn wrong size bras? Is there a charity that would take used bras?

Dandeliontea123 · 25/05/2018 08:22

@positivepineapple yes - this charity 'Smalls for All' takes new and lightly used bras to send to various African countries. I have sent them some in the past. You do have to pay postage though as they are a small charity.

Thanks for the link Dandelion

I can't believe how excited I am about going bra shopping tomorrow! If I manage to get at least one I'm happy with then I'll order more online. Ideally I'd like a new strapless bra as we are going on holiday in a couple of weeks. I know from past experience that different makes can vary in their sizing.

MissMarplesKnitting · 25/05/2018 08:45

M&S are weird.

Even as a confirmed 32G/GG depending on brand, when I put their 32G on....it just doesn't fit. They're absolutely hideous!

Bravissimo are brilliant and if you're unsure of size, just go in. The fitters are so patient and know the brands and models so you'll get something you like and are comfy in whether it's a plunge, full cup or balconnette.

BUT....don't dismiss the 'too tight' feeling. I got one a while back. Was ok in the shop and then was so tight, I hated it.

Washed it, wore it two days straight....and its given a bit and is now my favourite, gives such a nice shape.

Off to brastop for a bank holiday shop!

KirstenRaymonde · 25/05/2018 08:49

Yes you need to wear them in for a couple of days, like shoes.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that different shape cups will fit different shaped boobs, so trying a range of styles helps. You might also be slightly different sizes between brands. Knowing how they should fit when you try them on helps.

Thank you! DD has outgrown her first bras and they are definitely lightly worn. I knew there was somewhere to send them :)

Lweji · 25/05/2018 09:15

I don't think it has been said on this thread yet.

If you aren't sure if the band size is right, put on the bra front to back. That should remove the cup effect.
Once you're happy with the band, try different cup sizes.

Or try larger cup sizes on that band size until one is clearly too big.

IME measuring is more reliable for the band, so start off with that and experiment around cup sizes.

Frax · 25/05/2018 11:08

Boob or bust says I am 30F Grin. I think I'll stick with my wrong but comfy bras!

Lweji · 25/05/2018 11:19

A 38 if you measure 32 is not comfy, it's useless. I can't imagine that band stretches at all. It must just hang from the straps.

Lweji · 25/05/2018 11:23

Actually, if you measure 30!

Give it a go, a 30F it will probably fit better than a 32C.

KirstenRaymonde · 25/05/2018 11:31

Frax you’d probably find the 30F much more comfortable, though I know that seems illogical. A properly fitting bra can make a world of difference, just give it a try.

AGnu Trying to get a proper fit whilst nursing will be a challenge, I’d go for comfort for now.

KirstenRaymonde · 25/05/2018 11:32

Why would you want to stick with wrong anyway, that makes no sense to me? My properly fitting bra are really comfy.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2018 11:34

Why would you want to stick with wrong anyway, that makes no sense to me?

Define “wrong” though. The bra intervention method widely touted by MNers gives a different result to the BoB one. Which is right and which is wrong?
