The queen apparently took the piss out of Mrs Thatcher for her elaborate curtseys.

As an American, I'd curtsy to the Queen and Prince Philip, because I choose to. Maybe Anne, because she scares the crap out of me. Anyone else? No. Maybe Charles - forty years ago I had a massive crush on him. :-)

He was buff 40 years ago.

I wouldn't curtsy, or bow to any of , those sods born with a silver spoon in their mouth

I would slim down that family especially that fatso Andrew, and his two dreadful daughters, plus quite a few of the other hangers on , save a fortune !

My fav book was the Queen and Me , by Sue Thownsend

FWIW I met Charles once. I just shook hands with him. My main impression was that he was very pink. Mind you, he was a lot younger then!

No, I don't curtsy. I think a warm and mutually respectful handshake is a more sincere gesture.

I meet Charles and Camilla annually at a specific event through work. I have never curtsed and no-one seems to care.

Shake their hand and chat - hate the royals and everything they stand for and feel slightly disgusted with myself for going through with the charade but not enough to make an issue out of it at work.

I've just had back surgery. I had to curtsey to pick up my iPad. I swear it gave me a snooty look.

I really wish people would stop saying that B&E are awful. Based on what? A few newspaper reports? 2 young women ripped to shreds by so many who don’t even know them.

I agree - B and E don't seem to have done anything to deserve the vitriol they get, apart from being rather useless at holding down decent jobs (unless I am out of date there).

Andrew, on the other hand.... what a bloated sack of pointless over entitled shit he is. I'd trim down the RF and get rid of his privilege so fast that his empty fat head would spin.

Really? How mean

Re. Prince Charles: no, he has never been "buff"

I suspect that a lot of the scorn poured on B&E is to do with their body shape Sad if they were a size 6 they would be bitched about for being too thin (see the other MM hate thread) but not vilified or mocked. Notice how it's OK for their father to look his age and be whatever weight he is. Women in the public eye cannot win it seems.

Curtsying seems a bit ridiculous in this day and age

I like the Royals but I would only do a small curtsy to the Queen - no one else. I just think it is faintly ridiculous but slightly less so to the Queen.

I wouldn't curtsy to anyone either. Why on earth should we? They can have a handshake like anyone else.

The Queen is sightly different as actual head of state, I'd think I was cursing to the office, rather than the person. In the same way that you stand up when a judge enters a court, you're not really paying your respect to the person, it's the office of judge.

I'm not sure I know how to curtsy anyway so a handshake would probably be best all round.

Prince Charles is a couple of weeks younger than I am.

I'm wracking my brain to remember a time when he was buff; nope not happening.

Thank god I've worn a lot better than he has.

I'm pretty sure she did not do it to her face. But there are stories about that she may have joked about it in private. No idea if they are true, of course.

If you were d enough to know Thatcher and her works and to remember, for example, the Queen's disquiet at Orgreave - which became public knowledge at the time and was never refuted - you would not consider her taking the piss out of Thatcher's obsequious behaviour to be mean. It was Thatcher's OTT curtesy that the Queen took the piss out of not curtesying generally. "More regal than I am" was the reported quote.

If you do jury service you would be expected to stand for the judge. He may have made many decisions you disagreed with. But you would be expected to show respect. If you didn’t you could be in contempt. The Queen gets us out of a lot of government fuck ups. Camilla is super cool. Fergie is lovely. Zara is a supreme athlete. Harry is funny. I think Charles will be a good king. The rest can jog on, have a nice life, don’t take up our time

A judge is appointed following years of practical experience as a lawyer and having shown excellence in that field. The judicial system is a cornerstone of any society and without it, anarchy.

It's not really comparable to a group of people having inherited privilege funded by the public and with personal achievements that are distinctly average.

I was never a lover of Thatcher, but who knows, maybe Thatcher was taking the piss out of the queen.....the whole absurdity of curtsying.
It's probably hard to get right, the queen should be more understanding of people who don't know how to do it.

I doubt Meghan would bother.
