Or is Meghan Markle making the right choice?

I don't know if it actually was her choice or her father's, but it seems to me that it's the right decision for him not to come to the wedding.

He's obviously not at all well and needs to recover from his heart attack. He is also obviously wildly in over his head with the media. I think Kensington Palace have something to answer for there as they should have taken him under their wing from the start and given him more help in dealing with press speculation. But the damage is done and now he has caused himself and his daughter a lot of heartache - that must be causing him stress, and I think he will be happier and more healthy for missing it.

I really feel for Meghan. She obviously had quite a complex and uneasy relationship with her dad. She must feel so betrayed that he went behind her back to have these press photographs taken, and it seems he is also texting gossip fodder directly to TMZ. While there are mitigating factors, he very clearly hasn't been putting his daughter's wellbeing first. If he had, she'd be able to have her dad at her wedding and now she can't.

I hope she still has a great day on Saturday, and that her father recovers, and that she's able to move on from this and have a reasonable relationship with him.

You know reading here, I just had a thought, what if MM told PH a bunch of stuff, or even kept things from him about her family, poor me etc. and now it is all coming out. I wonder if he is shocked, having second thoughts.

The siblings seem to be the ones at fault here. One encouraged him to do the photos and he blames the heart attack on their behaviour.

I think at the start it seemed a bit weird her family were excluded, but their behaviour has made it totally understandable.

I agree with all this.

It's blatantly obvious why they weren't invited.

They just come across as jealous.

I do think this could have been handled better though. If I had such nasty half siblings I would have got my dad over to the UK with some security in good time.

Absolutely shocking that two black women in Los Angeles have spent time together. Don't forget that Doria met Thomas Markle on a film set and is now a yoga teacher, or that Meghan went to an upmarket private school. I reckon Doria already knows plenty of movers and shakers in the industry; she doesn't exactly live in the ghetto.

Obviously I am not Mr Markles Cardiologist but from what I have read it sounds like it was surgery that needed to be done AT SOME POINT and he has decided to elect to have it now to provide a legitimate reason not to go.
Who’s idea this was? Who knows. Maybe he’s chucking his teddy out at being caught staging photos to sell or maybe he’s been “advised”not to come

Heart surgery neatly lets him off the peg and arouses a great deal of public sympathy for Megan.
He's probably holed up in some country hotel right now with as many Spa treatments and free bar at someone elses expense.
As long as he keeps it shut and stays put.

I bet you any money you like MM cares about this situation a whole lot less than all the people endlessly discussing the whys and wherefores. She is much less invested which is a good thing.

It's a flipping state occasion! Anything other than the Queen herself dying wouldn't result in big changes to the wedding plans, and even then I'm not sure that it would be postponed given the logistics involved (including many overseas dignitaries)

People are perfectly capable of making up their own minds. Firstly they are paying for all of this, and secondly we live in a democracy

This is an ugly, undignified and unedifying situation made worse by MM smiling on her way to tea.
