Or is Meghan Markle making the right choice?

I don't know if it actually was her choice or her father's, but it seems to me that it's the right decision for him not to come to the wedding.

He's obviously not at all well and needs to recover from his heart attack. He is also obviously wildly in over his head with the media. I think Kensington Palace have something to answer for there as they should have taken him under their wing from the start and given him more help in dealing with press speculation. But the damage is done and now he has caused himself and his daughter a lot of heartache - that must be causing him stress, and I think he will be happier and more healthy for missing it.

I really feel for Meghan. She obviously had quite a complex and uneasy relationship with her dad. She must feel so betrayed that he went behind her back to have these press photographs taken, and it seems he is also texting gossip fodder directly to TMZ. While there are mitigating factors, he very clearly hasn't been putting his daughter's wellbeing first. If he had, she'd be able to have her dad at her wedding and now she can't.

I hope she still has a great day on Saturday, and that her father recovers, and that she's able to move on from this and have a reasonable relationship with him.

Even if eyebrows had been raised though Summer doesn't necessarily mean anything would have changed would it?

Here's what I reckon: I don't think MM is close to her father at all. In fact, I think she has had little or no contact with that side of her family for years, and probably with good reason judging from how they are behaving now. I think she has been LC or NC with them, and that is why she isn´t interested in rushing to her father´s side, setting up meetings with Harry, etc. All of which is her prerogative.

I don´t think her father was ever invited to the wedding. I think the whole thing was a PR stunt to get money, and this heart surgery is a way to get out of it.

I find it strange that when posters on MN are having trouble with relatives, they are told to block and go NC for the most spurious of reasons, but when someone in the public eye appears to have done it, they are an awful, heartless person.

It is perfectly LEGAL. And the world’s biggest grower of medicinal cannabis is the UK. So they can’t exactly complain about that when the same thing happens legally right in their very own realm within the Queen’s own legal system.

Cannabis is illegal in the UK the last time I checked it was a category B offence, so no I doubt very much the royal family will want to be associated with this.

Mycatissofat. No it wouldn’t change anything, Harry loves Megan I am sure but maybe Kensington Palace would have been better prepared to protect Megan and mitigate the damage by her family. They look horribly exposed as it stands.

Please don’t be foolish. The UK may well grow medicinal cannabis but it is absolutely a category b offence and is illegal. The pharmaceuticals are working on something entirely different to the markle family!!!

Personally I think it's beautiful that her mother is going to walk her down the aisle. She's clearly the parent Meghan is close to, and the one who won't let her down. It should have been her from the start.

Actually many pharmaceutical companies in the US outsource their Marijuana production to small growers. I watched a program where an American family found their way out of poverty by becoming a licensed grower of a particular strain with chemical properties useful for development of a trial drug. It was very interesting.

Well a none existent relationship with her Dad would explain a lot. No wonder she reinvented herself when she got her big break and went NC with those in her past. It seems that KP tried to force her hand to follow protocol and it backfired massively.

You are daft. Do you think he’s invited the press to look around an illegal cannabis farm? Of course he didn’t, he’s a licensed medicinal cannabis producer and people do exactly the same thing perfectly legally in the UK!

You know reading here, I just had a thought, what if MM told PH a bunch of stuff, or even kept things from him about her family, poor me etc. and now it is all coming out. I wonder if he is shocked, having second thoughts.

Also, someone mentioned NC. I think there is s big difference between NC in normal families, and NC when one person becomes rich and famous and drops their previous friends and family, which by all accounts she did.

I remember reading about David Beckham's sister, that she was on benefits and having difficulty, and when someone is so wealthy and they don't help family, to me, it just speaks very badly of them. If they live modestly, fine, but if not, why not forgo, what 3 dresses a year and dramatically change your sister's life by doubling her earnings. But they go out and raise money for charity or a good cause but don't look in their own house.

No one ever knows what goes on between family members. DH has always said (and still does because we occasionally have the "oh imagine if we..." chats) that if we won big on the lottery, as massively unlikely as it is to happen, that we wouldn't help his sister and her boyfriend out - if they had any amount of money they'd be dead after a month, and frankly, he's just not that keen on them because of how they've acted generally and towards the rest of the family. You really, really, can't project "normal" family circumstances onto disfunction.

Harry has always been a rebel, it works have vend more surprising if she had have been run of the mill.

I truly hope they will have the space to be happy and she turns out to be loyal and trustworthy

That sister just seems evil. I reckon she had a hand in the Dad being caught with the photos too.
