Or is Meghan Markle making the right choice?

I don't know if it actually was her choice or her father's, but it seems to me that it's the right decision for him not to come to the wedding.

He's obviously not at all well and needs to recover from his heart attack. He is also obviously wildly in over his head with the media. I think Kensington Palace have something to answer for there as they should have taken him under their wing from the start and given him more help in dealing with press speculation. But the damage is done and now he has caused himself and his daughter a lot of heartache - that must be causing him stress, and I think he will be happier and more healthy for missing it.

I really feel for Meghan. She obviously had quite a complex and uneasy relationship with her dad. She must feel so betrayed that he went behind her back to have these press photographs taken, and it seems he is also texting gossip fodder directly to TMZ. While there are mitigating factors, he very clearly hasn't been putting his daughter's wellbeing first. If he had, she'd be able to have her dad at her wedding and now she can't.

I hope she still has a great day on Saturday, and that her father recovers, and that she's able to move on from this and have a reasonable relationship with him.

And yes I'm perfectly capable of making up my mind also thank you very much

SoupDragon · 17/05/2018 22:17

Would you rather we all just stopped talking and you simply close down all debate?

Perhaps if you could simply stop making shit up and presenting tabloid crap as fact.

AlfredDaButtler · 17/05/2018 22:18

He had stents put in. Not an open heart bypass.

SoupDragon · 17/05/2018 22:20

Wtaf - who goes to tea when their father is suffering from a heart attack and surgery

Maybe someone who has spoken to him at length in private and been reassured by him? That’s based on as much fact as all the nasty bile spouted by the vultures on these threads.

That was hilarious I must admit @karyatide

speakout · 17/05/2018 22:24

Did he have stents put in?

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 17/05/2018 22:24

If he has had a heart attack he will take weeks to be back to full health, if not months. I think the wedding would be too much too soon.

speakout · 17/05/2018 22:27

No one actually knows what's going on here.

At least some of us are questioning what we read.

user1457017537 · 17/05/2018 22:27

Ffs we are now vultures who are making up crap. No we are having an opinion on one of the most significant events in the Royal family for several years. We are after all a democracy and are entitled to our opinions, whether you agree with them or not.

CaliforniaDream · 17/05/2018 22:29

@karyatide ooh, what were the porkies?

This, a thousand times.

It seems everyone wants MM to be some megabitch. We know basically nothing about her. I think she deserves a chance

School12345 · 17/05/2018 22:30

What happened to the Markle clan appearing on Good Morning Britain for wedding commentary?

I know it's a pretty low-brow breakfast show but still I did think it was a bit shocking that they would sign these people up for this gig. Terribly disrespectful to pay people to slag someone off on the morning of their wedding.

Then the sister claims she's been in a car crash and can't come...

Why?

I just read on blind gossip that ITV were basically told by THE PALACE to cancel it or there would be consequences - reduced access to the royals in future presumably. No more cosy Tom Bradby interviews etc

It's not happening. But what were GMB thinking???

MightyMucks · 17/05/2018 22:31

Then the sister claims she's been in a car crash and can't come...

Why?

Probably refused a visa.

School12345 · 17/05/2018 22:33

Well I presumed it was to cover up the fact that her gig had been cancelled.

You don't need a visa to travel between the US and the UK.

SoupDragon · 17/05/2018 22:39

And I am also entitled to my opinion. One that isn’t based on shit I’ve read in the tabloid press.

HadronCollider · 17/05/2018 22:40

Interesting that the RF PR directly interfere in broadcasting decisions. So they could have handled things better then.

user1457017537 · 17/05/2018 22:40

One difference Soup I am not trying to belittle anyone who doesn’t agree with me

SoupDragon · 17/05/2018 22:41

All the supposition, the picking over of “news”, the pronouncements of “facts” with glee. All the acts of vultures.

Neither am I. I am stating my opinion.

SoupDragon · 17/05/2018 22:42

Threads like this are a fucking disgrace.

lololove · 17/05/2018 22:42

To be fair, the royals aren't like 'normal' families when it comes to visiting their own. I believe Prince Phillip only had one visitor during his entire stay recently? And the queen carried on pottering about doing her other state visits.

Noone came to the hospital to meet the baby when Kate gave birth (same with Charlotte if I remember correctly).

As a rule they don't seem to visit other royal members of their family so even without the massive journey over to America, it doesn't seem that strange for her not to visit him when looked at in context.

The sister though? Ugh. You'd never want that in your life!! She's clearly seething and ridiculously jealous and showing herself out for what she is. It amuses me that the police responsibile for that area have come out and said not only is there no evidence of what she's claiming (the crash), she/her partner would get charged for it if it were true!

user1457017537 · 17/05/2018 22:44

Soup well I suppose you will do your utmost to get this thread shut down then

MightyMucks · 17/05/2018 22:46

You don't need a visa to travel between the US and the UK.

You do if you are intending to work which she was. Or if you have a criminal record. We can refuse entry and I suspect in that case they certainly would.

School12345 · 17/05/2018 22:48

But the visa would surely have needed to be sorted before now?

That's not why she's not coming. The gig has been called off. To save face she has fabricated a car crash.

Probably. Allegedly. Maybe.
