AIBU to think that anyone who hears Laurel is playing a practical joke? It's definitely yanny!

The laurel people must be on glue.

Maybe it plays different things for different people to confuse us.

HollowTalk · 16/05/2018 13:40

It's to do with the bass tones, apparently.

HateSummer · 16/05/2018 13:44

Yanny. Weird.

mintich · 16/05/2018 13:45

Laurel

BadgersBumhole · 16/05/2018 13:49

I hear laurel. But that is my dds name so...

Wallywobbles · 16/05/2018 13:50

Yanny

FesteringCarbuncle · 16/05/2018 13:51

DS can hear both. Like those pictures where you can see 2 different things he can change focus and hear both words

Semster · 16/05/2018 13:54

Mostly I hear Yanny.

But if it's slowed down, or if you emphasise the bass, I hear Laurel.

I think this means my hearing is pretty good for 48.

peepholepringle · 16/05/2018 13:55

Laurel for me!

hellsbellsmelons · 16/05/2018 14:14

2 clips at random without a doubt.
It changes for me and does it instantly when I replay.

QueenOfMyWorld · 16/05/2018 14:25

Laurel

50shadesofgreyismylaundry · 16/05/2018 14:29

Laurel. I can't hear yanny at all.

tillytoodles1 · 16/05/2018 14:32

Laurel.

SoyDora · 16/05/2018 14:35

I’ve played it over 15 times and heard it on the radio and it’s been yanny every time.

PippilottaLongstocking · 16/05/2018 14:39

I hear ‘yarry’, definitely no ‘n’ sound in the middle

Toddlerteaplease · 16/05/2018 14:47

Laurel

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 16/05/2018 14:49

Just try it through different devices. It's Yanny on my laptop and digital radio, Laurel on the phone.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 16/05/2018 14:50

In my desperate bid to hear yann y I looked at a video with different pitches and I can ONLY hear yann y when slowed by 33%.

Luisa27 · 16/05/2018 14:51

Yanny Smile

CaliforniaDream · 16/05/2018 14:51

2 clips at random without a doubt. it's definitely all the same clip - I've listened to it in groups and has a real mix of responses even though we all listened at the same time!

I can hear both.

The first time i listenes i could hear Yanny because that was the word flashing up, then Laurel when it flashed up. It then turned into Laurel all the time but I can switch between then at will.

Marmite27 · 16/05/2018 15:08

I’m 37 and still bothered by the mosquito thing for deterring teenagers, but I hear Laurel!

Maybe it’s my iPhone speakers, or my head cold, as I can usually hear highs pitches.

ClinkyMonkey · 16/05/2018 15:13

I only heard Yanny until I tried the trick someone upthread mentioned, of turning up the volume and now I can hear Laurel as plain as day.

sundayfeeling · 16/05/2018 15:15

It's to do with frequency.
The part of the sound that makes some people hear Yanny is higher frequency than that which makes some people hear Laurel.
If your... ears emphasise both the higher and lower frequencies, you can toggle between the two sounds.

Just found the sweet spot in the volume where I can hear both!
