Ways that the Royal wedding is affecting you.

My son has a music exam near Windsor on Sat. We will have to leave very early and go back roads to avoid wedding traffic.
Just wondered if anyone else has the Royal wedding negatively affecting their normal life.
BTW, this is light hearted. It's not my biggest issue but is an extra concern.

The only negative is the fact it's going to be on television from early morning, til whenever, and then repeated highlights, the newspapers will have it on pages 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 The news will be full of nothing else. The last time I had any interest in a royal wedding was Diana's. I dipped in and out of William's. Harry's wedding I shall do the same, dip in and out. So, the only negative for me is the media coverage.

If I was staying at Cliveden and getting married in Windsor, I'd go by boat to avoid traffic...I'm not convinced MM will even go by road. I'm avoiding using A404, A355 and M4 just because I suspect traffic will be bad

Crowd Spot on - here they are in droves, the sneerers and the negative ninnies. Funny how they go to all the effort to log on and make a comment about something they profess to have zero interest in. This thread is one of only two that I've read today - because I'm interested in them. I didn't open the threads that don't interest me.
I'll be watching on TV and smiling. They seem like a genuine, lovely couple and they're part of our royal family.

I have had precisely no part of my life affected by this wedding aside from a little trip to Monsoon to buy DS2 some red shorts as he wanted them for his red, white and blue party on friday at school (after being forcefully reminded that Avengers pants, despite being red, white and blue, are not suitable attire for a school party).

I know it's going to sound sneery, but it's not affecting me at all. I'm very pleased for them and I hope they have a lovely day but apart from watching the usual news in the evening I'm not poring over the TV. My MiL, who I care for, will want to watch it so I'll get her settled and then vacate the room and watch a film on Netflix.

After nearly a week of making the happy cards, bunting, play dough cakes, place mats and name cards, invitations etc etc. I have had enough. I've still got our wedding party to go on Friday. At least we got the kids excited about writing 😊

I live near Windsor and we aren't going to get within a country mile of it as I have seen pictures in the DM of old folk already parked on the bench outside the castle where we eat our lunch. We'll get a better view on TV.

However, I went to Cliveden for a walk on Monday and noticed huge displays of wedding flowers on the terrace and areas cordoned off. I read that evening that MM is staying the night there on Friday with her mother and, sure enough, when I went again yesterday there was a huge security operation with armed police. Terribly exciting for a National Trust garden!

I do love a royal wedding. North and South Korea pretending to be friends; conflagration in Jerusalem; the economy 'menopausal' and what are we really interested in? Which royal dukedom Harry and Megan are going to get. Sussex? Only in the UK, gawd bless it.

We Went to see a very popular exhibition at the V&A on the day that Kate and William got married, we almost had the place to ourselves. So maybe this Saturday is the day to go and see the Picasso exhibition or get tickets for a matinee that is usually fully booked.

I hope the weather is nice and that everyone goes to a party/pub/wedding. This will leave the roads empty for me to enjoy riding my motorbike. 😊

It's happening at the end of my street. I like the royals fine (apolitical head of state!) and it's fun to see what's going on and quite fun to whinge about it all All school activities cancelled both Saturday and tomorrow for the dress rehearsal as well. We can't leave as DH has to work as usual this weekend and I don't think we'd be able to get out and back very easily, and don't want to wrangle two small kids in the heaving crowds, all they'll see are people's knees. There's a huge media tent in the middle of the field where we walk our dog with floodlights on all night, camera crews everywhere, growled at a tourist taking pictures of the DCs in their school uniforms and all weekend activities cancelled. Local shops not getting deliveries after Thursday so we have been told to stock up on bread and milk like it's some kind of natural disaster. Internet isn't functioning all down the high street since last weekend, but they can't fix until after the wedding so all the cashpoints are off and the post office is closed. thank goodness we can just sit tight and don't have to worry about the parking and traffic situation, or the trains.

I wish I could charge American tourists to use our loo, we'd be quids in.

My friend and I managed to get tickets for a popular musical at our local theatre. Sold out for the other 10 days but Saturday 19th had spaces so we nabbed them not even realising why that was the only day with seats free. Great result and hopefully there will be lots of room in local restaurants (so long as there is no TV screen for either wedding commentary or football).

I’ll have to remember to have my daughters one and only red t-shirt clean for ‘red white and blue’ day at school, but apart from that am not really affected!

Oh I've just heard they're rerouting the Heathrow flight path for the day! So no planes overhead. I'm feeling more positive already Grin
