My son has a music exam near Windsor on Sat. We will have to leave very early and go back roads to avoid wedding traffic.
Just wondered if anyone else has the Royal wedding negatively affecting their normal life.
BTW, this is light hearted. It's not my biggest issue but is an extra concern.

I might try one of Dunkin Donuts' heart-shaped Royal Wedding donuts.

flimflaminurjams · 15/05/2018 13:53

Son's school is having another bloomin dress up effort.

Now I've read upthread and want to learn how to fold napkins in a fancy way Grin

LockedOutOfMN · 15/05/2018 13:56

We live abroad.

I do have to put up with daily references in the media to a political figure here who has a passing resemblance to Meghan.

Also one of Meghan's films was shown on TV at the weekend; I caught the end of it and it took me a few minutes to work out why the actress looked familiar.

Not mentioned at work or at the kids' schools. I don't think our kids (6 and 9) would know who Harry was.

The ILs also like to chat about Meghan and Kate but I think they're just trying to be polite and the royal family is one of the few bits of British culture they feel comfortable talking about.

greenlynx · 15/05/2018 14:49

No, it won't affect our family. We are republicans, live up North and deeply absorbed into our own problems. DD is at secondary so won't be having party or afternoon tea.
I'm sure I will see the dress while I will be watching news ( probably on Sunday but no rush at all)
But I wish them well and also to all other people who are getting married this weekend! Flowers

idlikemoresleep · 15/05/2018 14:52

When is it? 😂🤷‍♀️

Kpo58 · 15/05/2018 14:54

I was also thinking about the clash with the Pokémon Go Community Day!

As I have 2 kids 2 and under, they wouldn't let me watch it anyway.

WelshWitch7 · 15/05/2018 14:58

The only wedding I'm getting excited about is my daughters in November!

pigmcpigface · 15/05/2018 15:02

A gift for all those republicans out there.

Clandestino · 15/05/2018 15:39

@pigmcpigface I am actually totally indifferent. Only realised the wedding was this Saturday as someone mentioned it. I actually thought it was last week.

MaMisled · 15/05/2018 15:49

It'll affect my ability to sleep between night shifts. I love pomp and ceremony and I'm really looking forward to it!

YouCantBeSirius · 15/05/2018 15:51

I'll be too busy hunting shiny Charmanders tbh. Then home to watch the Scottish cup final.

Confusssed · 15/05/2018 15:57

Oooh I love a bit of pomp & circumstance, no one does glorious pageantry like the Brits. I'll be sad to miss it but we're heading into London on Saturday to shop (arranged long before wedding was announced). I'm hoping the streets will be deserted.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 15/05/2018 16:04

Loving the PoGo love on here.

Team Mystic for the win Wink

Redcrayons · 15/05/2018 20:43

I'll be watching. There's the dress, which celebs they've invited and the latest plot twist, will her dad turn up.

Sadly the Pimms will remain unopened as I've got mums taxi duties in the afternoon and an early start on Sunday but I'll raise a glass over my Sunday lunch.

Also want to watch the TV film but can't find it anywhere. The Wills and Kate one was hilarious.

They have some nice pink road signs!

Just the cost to the taxpayer and the reminder of brutal inequality raging in the country

THIS ^ the monarchy gives me RAGES

TheDairyQueen · 15/05/2018 20:55

Oh, OP, you had to fucking well ask!

I'm sick to fucking death of hearing about it. It boils my piss that the likes of Nicholas Witchell faun over people who would just as soon not piss on them if they burst into flames. So you can imagine I have very strong views about what an inconvenience this wedding will be to my sanity.

I'll be glad when it's over and hear no more about it. I can only long for the day when we free ourselves of these parasites once and for all, and don't have to tolerate the sycophancy that surrounds them. It makes me so fucking mad when I see their obscene wealth when we have people going hungry with no shelter, and think "what makes them so bloody special?"

Other countries thrive without monarchies. They don't need a monarch to generate tourism or generate cultural capital, they get along just fine without them. What makes any man or woman so special that we should bow before them? God forbid you turn your back on Betty, either, nothing infuriates her more.

Thanks for the therapy!

carameldecaflatte · 15/05/2018 21:01

They've stolen my wedding anniversary. Apart from that I couldn't care less.

Seeingadistance · 15/05/2018 21:05

Threads like this, and hearing about her father all day on the radio news.

JumpingFrogs · 15/05/2018 21:17

Live a 10 minute walk away but have no intention whatsoever of even leaving the house !

ILoveMyDressingGown · 15/05/2018 21:28

dc have to wear red, white & blue on Fri at school and I have to pay £1 apiece for the privelidge. And I have to send them with picnic snacks, a drink and a picnic blanket. None of which we have in the house so I will have to go out and buy them. I'd rather just keep them off but I'm working myself on that day. FFS.

AnonymousIndividual · 15/05/2018 21:40

I'm following all the threads on here in the run up Smile.

Thanks for the reminder Fluffy Persian, I need to get the red, white and blue bunting out Grin.

On the day I'm plonking myself in front of the telly, with plenty of food and drink to hand. Hope it doesn't overrun, as I'm watching the FA Cup Final straight after.

DGD is off to Legoland for the day Shock.

Whocansay · 15/05/2018 21:49

It doesn't really. But I did finally crack earlier, after hearing about MM's flakey dad, and read the actual story in the paper. I felt a bit sorry for her. Her paternal family sound like an utter car crash.

I am a bit shocked that there is so much fuss being made of an adult woman, with a successful career and her own money, having to have some attention-seeking bloke walk her down the aisle. I would be far happier to see her do it alone. That would be a statement for a modern woman and a modern royal family. She really does not need to be 'given away' in 2018.

Whocansay · 15/05/2018 21:50

I clearly feel more strongly than I thought I did!

LuluJakey1 · 15/05/2018 21:58

It isn't except I am sick of hearing about it. We are going out on Saturday - taking DS and DD up the coast to a country park. Not interested in watching. Northumberland will be functioning normally.
