Irony alert: Meghan Markle’s Dad

MightyMucks · 13/05/2018 05:34

Sorry, found this hilarious. Meghan Markle’s Dad has staged some pics with the paparizzo to send out a message re his DDs wedding (ie he is going).

This is being reported by the press in a vv ‘tut tut aren’t her family awful’ manner.

Am I alone in finding this hilariously hypocritical? I remember St Diana getting caught in a car with Richard Kay from the Daily Mail and she wrote a book secretly with Daily Express journalist Andrew Morton.

Plus who had those pics front page the day they were taken? That’s right. The Daily Mail!

I am not a Meghan fan at all. But I got up this morning and looked at the papers and felt like I had gone done a rabbit hole when I saw her Das being slated for this supposedly ‘unroyal’ behaviour which is actually the most royal thing in the world ever.

I don't see this as a masterful move to gain control over the press. That might have been his intent, I suppose (?) but causing such speculation so close to the wedding is very, very unkind to his daughter.

Motherofallbeasts · 13/05/2018 10:31

It is normal in celebrity world - at the top and bottom end. The Kardashians constantly arrange pap shots - and I am 100% sure Megan will have done too.

GingerIvy · 13/05/2018 10:35

I find it hard to believe he'd be living in Mexico if he was well off.

Goodness, what a comment to make!! Hmm Talk about making assumptions.

Motherofallbeasts · 13/05/2018 10:36

I find it hard to believe he'd be living in Mexico if he was well off.

The richest man in the world is Mexican - or was - I think he's 4th or 5th now. What a weirdly inaccurate and ignorantly racist comment to make.

ElliePhillips · 13/05/2018 10:40

Whether her father did the photos as a joke or for money it is embarrassing and her shouldn't have done this just days before her wedding. It is thoughtless.

OriginalGeordie · 13/05/2018 10:41

I have a feeling that he won’t end up being at the wedding and these photo’s convince me of that even more.

ElliePhillips · 13/05/2018 10:41

He shouldn't have

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 13/05/2018 10:46

Is it really certain that his daughter is helping him financially? To me, this seems like the sort of desperate and undignified caper you might get involved in if you wanted to go to the UK to walk your daughter down the aisle at a posh high-profile wedding and you were completely strapped for cash.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 13/05/2018 10:48

It really tickled me watching Gogglebox the other night and one of them said he looks like Barry from Eastenders.

NurseButtercup · 13/05/2018 10:56

@Ranchodemerit

Thank goodness it's not the black side of the family being majorly embarrassing.

Me and my friends have been laughing about this for the last few weeks. Black Americans love the British and the Royal Family so I'll be very very surprised if anybody on her black side does anything to embarrass her before the wedding.

I'm amazed they still have Internet cafes. Ive not seen one in years.

Hopefully he got money for the "exposure" story tooGrinGrin

I read his lottery win was many years. A lot of it used to privately educate his dd. He won't have any of that left now.

lizzie1970a · 13/05/2018 11:42

Even if he needed the money, or even if he wanted to up one up on the papparazzi, who does this to their daughter about to get married into the RF? Not the time for either. He involved the mother too by taking her a potted plant and leaving it outside her house. Just pure embarrassment all round. I quite liked him before, and her mother, but terrible judgement. If he was my dad doing this I'd be furious. Her extended family are an embarrassment but she thought she could count on her parents to be dignified. Seems not.

lizzie1970a · 13/05/2018 11:45

It could also be some kind of double sting - set him up to think he's earning a bit of money (you might as well Mr Markle) and you can get one up on the papperazzi then they sell him down the river, letting slip it was staged. I wouldn't be surprised if the DM set him up. But fool on him for not thinking it wouldn't come out if that is the case. When the rumours were going round that it was staged I thought that's really risky business to think it won't come out.

Shadow666 · 13/05/2018 11:47

I wasn't being racist about Mexico. Its a stereotype. Many Americans retire to Mexico as the cost of living is cheaper there and they can eke out their pension or savings better than the US.

Look at him, though. He dresses in regular clothes, lives a quiet life in a modest house in a not so nice area.

Maybe he's rich and likes to live modestly, but its much more likely that he is trying to live frugally and quietly.

maggiecate · 13/05/2018 11:59

The Mail and co will have approached him to get a story and will now be punishing him because he's said no. If he'd talked to them it would be all heartwarming about how he opens up about his family etc etc.

PortiaCastis · 13/05/2018 12:03

I will not read the Mail but I expect maggiecate is correct, they're being controversial at someone's expense as per usual

ohcomeon12321 · 13/05/2018 12:09

It’s already been confirmed that he’ll be at the wedding and that she financially supports him lie he went bankrupt

Annabelle4 · 13/05/2018 12:14

I bet Harry's glad he was the second born child. There's no way William would have been allowed to marry her.

GingerIvy · 13/05/2018 12:26

Because that makes it better that you said it? Because it's a stereotype?

Really not covering yourself in glory with this one either.

Hmm
HadronCollider · 13/05/2018 12:27

Where's the proof she financially supports him? He's been bankrupt and is trying to live very modestly on whatever finances he has left.

HadronCollider · 13/05/2018 12:30

I believe William would have been able to marry her, because the Royal Family would never risk another abdication crisis. So he would simply have had to put his foot down

Plus Camilla is hardly Queen material herself if we're adopting the rules of royal discrimination, very far from it.

lizzie1970a · 13/05/2018 12:37

Some Americans do move to Mexico or Panama or somewhere south of the border for their retirement as it is cheaper. How on earth is that stereotyping or being racist?! It's common knowledge. Nuts how people fall over themselves to see racism where there isn't any.

GingerIvy · 13/05/2018 12:40

It was this comment that some of us felt was off.

I find it hard to believe he'd be living in Mexico if he was well off.

wizzywig · 13/05/2018 12:45

Just assumed he did it for money. Isn't there a post running on mn about a woman socialising with wealthier friends and feeling like she doesn't fit in? I thought he was making some money.

user1457017537 · 13/05/2018 12:48

I find it hard to believe she supports her dad given that he is involved in this. The very expensive engagement dress was probably loaned for the photo, actors don’t like spending their own money. It’s a fact that the dad lives frugally.
