To ask if you would have waited longer for kids

People who had children in their late twenties or early thirties

Would you have waited longer to have children if you knew the full impact it would have on your life and relationship?

I know everyone is different but I am Confused by people who had dc at a perfectly young age saying they wish they were younger..... why? I loved my life pre-dc, and being 30ish we were financially much more secure than we were when we were younger.

I had my first at 23. The relationship broke up as he " wasn't ready to be a father despite being 8 years older than me. Don't regret it at all. It was the making of my life. Plus. At that age I sailed through pregnancy sleepless nights labour and running after a lively toddler compared to doing it at 41 ( which was the next time I got pregnant!)

I had mine in my teens and it worked out brilliantly for me.

No way! If anything I’d have preferred to have first slightly earlier (took a while to conceive but I was still early 30s for both DCs). I like being a relatively young mum. Mid-40s with teens. I can relate to them a bit more than my mum
Could to me with a 40+ age gap. She was still a great mum, but the generation gap was huge.
Dh and I travelled before we had kids and did our major partying!! I still party hard sometimes though but didn’t when they were younger as wouldn’t have coped with the fallout the next day.

Had my first 2 early 20s. Might have been nice to have a couple of years just me and dh. We had 1st ds 9 months after getting married. I then had another when eldest was 10 so won't have any free time for a long time yet. Wouldn't change it now though they all keep me on my toes

Yes. Had DS at 27 and wish we'd had a couple more years married first. Now pregnant again at 31 and feel this is a better age.

Having said that if I'd waited longer DS wouldn't be DS and I obviously wouldn't change him for the world.

I was 31 when I had my first (of three) and that has worked out well for me. I had a good CV by then, which helped me get back to work after having a few years as a SAHM, and DH and I been together eight years so we'd had loads of time for the travelling / socialising thing in our 20s.

I had 2 by the age of 20 and they’re all grown up now, so I’m totally free and I love it! A friend of mine recently had her first at 39 so she’ll be 60 when the child is 21. I wouldn’t have liked that. Yes she did do a bit of travelling before, but i’ve ‘caught up” in that regard, and a bit more partying I guess, which I’m not bothered about. But other than that she’s just been doing the same job I have for many years now (that’s how we met). She didn’t meet her OH until she was 37 so that’s why she waited. But yes, i’m glad I had mine young and now still have time to have a life of my own.

I'm 32 (33 in October) and nearly 30 weeks pregnant with our first. I fell pregnant at 31, but lost the baby at 12 weeks (MMC). I initially thought I would have liked kids in my late 20s, but didn't meet DH until I was 28, so it was more down to life circumstances rather than choosing to wait. We got married just short of 3 years after meeting. Having our first at 32 does mean, however, that I'm now near the top of the pay scale in my job (teaching) and I feel I've had a good full time career before having kids, and it has allowed me to save every month since I started working. DH and I have also enjoyed some amazing holidays too!
