To think cleaner could have flushed the loo?

Is this an unreasonable expectation? Ds 7 had done a poo without me realising and not flushed. Isn't that just a given when you're cleaning the bathroom?

OP posts:

But young children sometimes do forget stuff and some grown ups forget to check if they’ve remembered. We’re all human. Nobody expected the cleaner to pick it up with bear hands and dispose of it, just flush first so she could do the cleaning properly.

I’m sure the 7 yo and OP didn’t intend a personal insult.

Hushnownobodycares · 09/05/2018 19:03

Was it a monster grogan that was never going to do the decent thing without a fight? If so YABU. If it was an easily displaced turdlet it wouldn't have hurt her to flush.

ellsbells2 · 09/05/2018 19:03

The cleaner could have flushed the loo but so could your child.

The only one I would consider speaking to about it though would be the child. If you don't expect him to flush then you can't reasonably expect the cleaner to.

BoomBoomsCousin · 09/05/2018 19:03

As a cleaner I couldn't be bothered making a fuss over an unflushed loo. You just close the seat and pull the handle. Complaining about it is complaining about people's grim personal habits, not some horrendously unreasonable addition to your job. But if she's just telling you so you can tell DS to go back and flush, so helping you toilet train him properly, that seems very pretty nice of her.

Smeddum · 09/05/2018 19:04

Not originally no, but by coming on MN and making a fuss that the cleaner didn’t do something that her own son and herself didn’t do, it makes it pretty clear she has no respect for her cleaner.

cloudtree · 09/05/2018 19:06

How the fuck is flushing the loo "tidying" Grin. Clearly the cleaner hadn't cleaned the toilet if she hadn't flushed it.

Child should have flushed but they don't always and so cleaner should have prior to cleaning it!

londonrach · 09/05/2018 19:09

Sorry is your cleaner a nanny! Op your dc is 7. Its very unusual at that age not to flush. He needs teaching here.

auntyflonono · 09/05/2018 19:10

Yes! Otherwise how can he or she clean it!

kaytee87 · 09/05/2018 19:11

She probably didn't clean it because she was a bit sick/insulted by being confronted with a shit in the toilet.

PlumsGalore · 09/05/2018 19:14

You are taking the piss. It is your job to parent not hers.she is there to clean, as far a step I'm concerned flushing the loo is parenting not cleaning. Do your job.

PuppyMonkey · 09/05/2018 19:15

But Smeddum, i Don’t think either the child or OP left it floating in there on purpose. If they'd realised, I’m sure they would have dealt with the situation accordingly before she went in to clean.

OP is right to be a bit Hmm that the cleaner cleaned without first thinking a-ha, I’ll flush that away first.

PuppyMonkey · 09/05/2018 19:16

Do your job Grin

Aridane · 09/05/2018 19:16

it is not your cleaners job to ensure disposal of your child’s feces, they’re a cleaner, not a servant.

I don’t think OP was expecting the cleaner to pick it up,with her bare ha do and take it to a nearby field for burial

Smeddum · 09/05/2018 19:18

I never said it was done deliberately, and I’m sure she would have. But she didn’t, and is now pissed off because the cleaner didn’t, that’s my issue.

Loonoon · 09/05/2018 19:22

Surely flushing the loo is the first step in cleaning the loo? Flush, sprinkle in whatever cleaning product you use, scrub and then flush to rinse. If she hasn't flushed it she hasn't cleaned it.

We had a similar issue once. The cleaner flushed it, did her job and later came to me very embarrassed and asked me to remind DC to flush their loo as it had been unpleasant for her. DC got told off and I checked their loo in future.
And to be fair to my DC and OPs DC, sometimes you do get a floater.

BustopherJones · 09/05/2018 19:26

Wait... is flushing the loo parenting or tidying? It’s hard to keep up Grin

It’s just a poo. Nothing happens if you see one.

PuppyMonkey · 09/05/2018 19:29

No she’s pissed off because the cleaner was supposed to have cleaned the loo - and yet clearly she still didn’t flush it in order to do the job she was supposed to be doing.

Sorry said job again. Grin

Iceweasel · 09/05/2018 19:30

Was there a poo with no toilet paper?

Smeddum · 09/05/2018 19:31

Why should she? It’s all very well tittering like children about poo, but there is very little funny about expecting a cleaner to deal with shit.

Furano · 09/05/2018 19:32

Oh come on. The poi wasn’t going to jump up and slap the cleaner on the face.

Close lid.
Flush.
Proceed with cleaning as normal.

Zero drama.

PuppyMonkey · 09/05/2018 19:36

She didn't have to “deal with shit,” she had to flush a bloody loo.

Smeddum · 09/05/2018 19:38

As it turns out, no she didn’t.

theeyeofthestormchaser · 09/05/2018 19:39

I always check all the loos before my cleaner arrives and, er, clean them. There's no excuse for leaving skids.

But youtr 7yo should be flushing!!

Maybe clearer was offended. Odd. Can you ask her?

BustopherJones · 09/05/2018 19:41

I have had to deal with poo in a professional capacity. I do mean deal with, because I mean that some bastard kept shitting on the floor at work. Flushing a loo is frankly amateur league.

PestymcPestFace · 09/05/2018 19:45

Maybe your cleaner has been encountering poos for months and has decided not to keep covering for your DS.

Occasionally toilets need flushing before cleaning, it is no big deal (unless it happens frequently).

Communicate with her.
