They don't want us to leave. We don't want to leave. So what could Macron'n'Merkel offer us so we can say "go on, we'll stay together for the sake of the kids".

It's obvious to me know that very few people here employ any critical thinking and that I could basically just be in the comments section of the Guardian.

A4710Rider · 09/05/2018 13:08

*to me now.

user1486062886 · 09/05/2018 13:10

Lweji Unfortunately that was the sraw that broke the camels back, why didn’t AM get EU permission and form a plan before opening the floodgates and putting huge strain on Greece, Italy, and make other nations erect borders

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/05/2018 13:10

It takes critical thinking to understand brexit will damage the GFA and UK in general.

Smeddum · 09/05/2018 13:12

@A4710Rider if you’re so confident of your statements, why haven’t you been able to back any of them up with actual facts?

Because you can’t. You’re being pedantic about language, while claiming to have read the GFA yet can’t quote a single line from it. You’ve ignored the posters who have explained why Brexit is potentially catastrophic for the GFA and peace in NI. You skate ever so slightly on the “right” side of not being outwardly blatant in your racism, but if you think the undercurrent in your posts isn’t abundantly clear then you are mistaken.

The fact is that barely anyone voting leave considered NI, because the expectation that NI would just shut up and do as it was told is very real. Without consideration for the implications for the people living with the consequences.

You do not listen to anything anyone else is saying, and happily ignore the many, many statements disproving your ridiculous comments.

You are wrong, and you know it. You just won’t admit it because the reality of your attitudes and ignorance are grave consequences which you need to accept responsibility for. Which I’m guessing isn’t your thing.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/05/2018 13:12

leavers irrational fear about what another sovereign nation is doing with refugees led to brexit? Confused

Smeddum · 09/05/2018 13:13

@GhostofFrankGrimes I’m glad I’m not the only one who read it that way!

Lweji · 09/05/2018 13:13

They left them in refugee camps for the most part

Can you back up that statement with any fact? Like a link or something?

Well, they're not happy, but they are in refugee camps and they were left by men.
The DM too, so it should be reliable.

This one is better, perhaps.

Smeddum No, helping them sort their own country first would have been the best long term solution for everyone

Canoeeless2018 · 09/05/2018 13:15

Smeddum · 09/05/2018 13:15

@user1486062886 we bombed their country!!! And left them at the mercy of the Assad regime. How do you not know this?

Lweji · 09/05/2018 13:16

Lweji Unfortunately that was the sraw that broke the camels back, why didn’t AM get EU permission and form a plan before opening the floodgates and putting huge strain on Greece, Italy, and make other nations erect borders

Erm... Greece and Italy were the ones receiving refugees on their beaches. As well as other countries via land borders. Germany took the strain away from those countries.
You seem slightly confused.

user1486062886 · 09/05/2018 13:17

GhostofFrankGrimes You act just like the government, you don’t listen to or try to understand people’s concerns, opinions, views, they are wrong, you are right, This is some of the reasons why we have ended up with Brexit,

Smeddum · 09/05/2018 13:19

@user1486062886 but with respect, your reasons don’t make sense. If you go with what you’re saying is the problem, it’s Greece and Italy who should be doing what the UK is doing. Not the UK.

So you can’t agree or even debate with a point that doesn’t make any sense?

user1486062886 · 09/05/2018 13:20

Lweji And when she opened the gates more and more come as they saw it as an opportunity and a invite to come and more and more arrived and we ended with many tragic deaths

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/05/2018 13:20

Every leave claim has been debunked. The impact assessment report states the country will be worse off. Brexit will not fix people’s concerns. Brexit is folly. I am right in saying this.

Enjoy your brexit, I guarantee it will be shit and the usual suspects will still be whinging about immigration in 20 yrs time!

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoor · 09/05/2018 13:22

Carrots, sticks, bones.....All irrelevant now.

Unfortunately, the carrot should have been the members (individuals, not countries) of the EU feeling the benefits enough to want to stay.

I suspect the vast majority of Leave voters feel such diluted political influence due to the very indirect way in which individuals can influence EU rules and regulations, and this is what many mean by the soundbite 'taking back control'.

Get rid of one of the layers of our political system and all of a sudden it will feel like we have greater political empowerment. Once we 'feel' greater empowerment, we have it.

This is a huge (possibly only?) benefit of leaving the EU. Westminster have to be totally accountable for everything once we leave. Apathy will reduce as individuals seek to change/direct laws/regulations/issues that they once perceived/were told was too entrenched in EU red tape to bother with.

We will all become more empowered with our political system, leaver or remainer.

user1486062886 · 09/05/2018 13:23

Smeddum And they have to a lesser extent, Greece did try to leave and voted to leave but are in so much debt that the EU ( Germany) threatened the government, and Italy’s last election anti immigration parties done well

user1486062886 · 09/05/2018 13:25

Lweji It’s nice to feel wanted not threatened by AM

Smeddum · 09/05/2018 13:31

Greece can’t leave because they’ve been bailed out, that’s true.

Italy’s anti immigration parties have done well, which is sad because they hark back to the days of fascism and nobody wants to see a return of that kind of regime. Hopefully anyway. They haven’t, however, begun the process of leaving the EU. Probably because they recognise that it is political, economic and social suicide.

I can’t understand why anyone voted for uncertainty, for a future with no plan in place and no safety net. Because (according to the majority of Leave voters on this thread) they don’t want immigrants/refugees (and nobody will realise the difference).

So we’re all up shit creek with the paddle in pieces because you don’t like immigrants?

user1486062886 · 09/05/2018 13:32

GhostofFrankGrimes And project fear has proved to be bunked, ( yes there is a recession coming, there is one every decade, even when in the EU, ) If it turns out shit, so be it, I have have lived through 3 recession and the recent financial crisis ( we were in the EU then) People will always trade as they have done over the centuries,

Smeddum · 09/05/2018 13:34

People will always trade as they have done over the centuries

And when everything is more expensive because of import tax and export tax, who will you blame then? Because we’re an island (and NI is part of an island). We need trade to survive, both imports and exports. When the tax on that increases massively, who will you blame them?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/05/2018 13:35

Food prices went up straight after the referendum. Look at brexit as a permanent recession, one caused by ordinary people not bankers!
