To wish the EU would throw us a bone so we can cancel Brexit

They don't want us to leave. We don't want to leave. So what could Macron'n'Merkel offer us so we can say "go on, we'll stay together for the sake of the kids".

Lweji I didn’t see it because it wasn’t there, I don’t mean Junkers etc, so me some evidence and I don’t meet the bigwigs at the EU, it would have been nice if she had come round or perhaps do a bit of a news conference, to make us feel welcome, but they don’t really care about us leaving apart from the money, let’s be honest

A4710Rider · 09/05/2018 12:24

Well it is not going up at the same rate is my point

Yes, it's dropped to 250,000 a year. Excuse me if I don't do a happy dance.

Frank

Could you point me to the part in the GFA which rules out a hard border? I'm just having a gander and the only bit I can see is related to security installations. Nothing here about customs checks etc.

Thanks.

Buteo · 09/05/2018 12:28

We still had 250,000 more people than the year before - what's your point?

The point is that your comment that net migration is not falling is wrong.

Lweji · 09/05/2018 12:28

You'd have been screaming interference!

Do you think those who voted Brexit would have been moved by a Merkel news conference? An appeal to their hearts, that she loves the UK so much?

Get down from those clouds.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/05/2018 12:28

Rider,

Do you want to sell a hard border to nationalists and maintain the GFA?

Thanks

For decent mental health a human needs to feel some degree of achievement for a day's activities. Paying people to 'idle' causes immense problems.
Who is talking about idle? The choice isn't unskilled, manual jobs or sitting around watching TV. There will be a vast amount of caring, creative, academic and skilled-manual roles for people to work in.

Think of it in terms of compulsory military service.
Ugh. No.

A4710Rider · 09/05/2018 12:29

Frank

Are you going to answer my question?

user1486062886 · 09/05/2018 12:30

GhostofFrankGrimes Well with your idea for concrete Britain we won’t need fruit pickers anymore, that’s that problem solved, Why is it up to the general public for the solution to the NI border, that’s why we have MP’s, I sure they have it all sorted before they let the public vote at the referendum, they wouldn’t be trying to find a solution now, they are after all clever people

A4710Rider · 09/05/2018 12:30

The point is that your comment that net migration is not falling is wrong

When we have more people leaving than arriving then I will be wrong

IronMansIronButt · 09/05/2018 12:31

I answered for Frank, its all there should you choose to read it.

Buteo · 09/05/2018 12:32

Do you mean the 65 jobs in 2003?

Not 65 - more like 550.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/05/2018 12:32

MPs haven’t got a solution for the Ni border meaning all the bleating about controlling borders will come to nothing.

Nobody outside of the DUP would want a hard border

A4710Rider · 09/05/2018 12:33

Iron,

It's not there though is it, could you point me to the bit where the GFA rules out having a Hard Border.

Like in point out, specifically.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/05/2018 12:34

The GFA doesn’t mention a hard border because it was written in 1998 when politicians were sensible.

Buteo · 09/05/2018 12:35

When we have more people leaving than arriving then I will be wrong

You are already wrong. Net migration is falling.

Thanks for the clarification. So under the GFA it shouldn't matter if there was a hard border or not.

I see.

A4710Rider · 09/05/2018 12:38

It is complicated, and difficult to understand, and without all of the facts

Sorry, the facts are we having too many people and are still receiving to many people for the infra structure to cope. There is nothing difficult to understand about that.

user1486062886 · 09/05/2018 12:39

Lweji No I wouldn’t have, A news conference to allay the fears of FOM might have helped, some along the lines of we know this a problem for Britain and over EU nations as can be seen by the rise of anti immigrant parties, we will look at the impacts on countries, we will let each country set appropriate limits as they deem fit, or words to that effect, that would have swung it, wether they would keep to the deal who knows, but the lies worked in 1973, as my dad says if he knew how the Common market ended up he wouldn’t have voted for it

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/05/2018 12:39

It will matter when the nationalist community/businesses don’t accept it and the brexiteers by default destroy the GFA

Remember now;

NI voted remain = will of the people
GFA = will of the people

A4710Rider · 09/05/2018 12:41

Frank,

The only point I was making was that nowhere in GFA does it rule out having a hard border. I'm quite correct in that.
