To wish the EU would throw us a bone so we can cancel Brexit

They don't want us to leave. We don't want to leave. So what could Macron'n'Merkel offer us so we can say "go on, we'll stay together for the sake of the kids".

@A4710Rider you’re under the mistaken impression that the EU is under any obligation to do us any favours. This is the mess made by the UK government, it’s up to them to fix it.

It’s the political equivalent of someone smashing a glass on the floor at work and telling their colleague to clean it up!

A4710Rider · 08/05/2018 17:53

@A4710Rider intolerant of what? Stupidity and bigotry that has very real consequences? Yup, I’m intolerant of that

That's what I though, so don't be preaching about intolerance then, ok? Makes you sound like a hypocrite.

A4710Rider · 08/05/2018 17:54

A4710Rider, it's not up to them to come up with suggestions or solutions

Why not? Surely it would be in everyone's interests?

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 17:54

Says the poster who spent most of the thread slamming the EU and then stamping their foot because the EU won’t offer solutions? That would be funny if it wasn’t so serious.

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 17:55

@A4710Rider you’re under the impression that the EU any longer gives a shit about our interests. Why should they?

A4710Rider · 08/05/2018 17:56

@A4710Rider you’re under the mistaken impression that the EU is under any obligation to do us any favours

Who is talking about favours? We have an issue and we need a solution, the EU could help if it wanted to but it doesn't. So don't be surprised if there's a super hard brexit and everyone get's damaged.

A4710Rider · 08/05/2018 17:57

@A4710Rider you’re under the impression that the EU any longer gives a shit about our interests

They will certainly give a shit about not getting a £40 billion divorce settlement.

notangelinajolie · 08/05/2018 17:58

We don't want to leave.

But we do Crikeyisunderused. Did nobody tell you the result?

IronMansIronButt · 08/05/2018 17:58

We have an issue and we need a solution, the EU could help if it wanted to but it doesn't. So don't be surprised if there's a super hard brexit and everyone get's damaged

you have an issue YOU CAUSED. The EU was happily chugging along and then the UK said "hey, we hate you, we're leaving, fuck off", and now you have the unmitigated fucking nerve to complain that the EU won't help you to leave and won't give you every damn thing you want?
There will be a super hard brexit because that it was you fools caused. And there WILL be a lot of damage because that is what you caused.

Allreadygone · 08/05/2018 17:59

The EU is not necessarily 'opposition' but they are stating that there must be a customs border between the EU and non EU countries.
The Eire/NI border is sensitive, as would be the border between Catalunya or the Basque regions of Spain (among others) so a proper worked out plan must be found.
The weaving of trade agreements between the various EU members is incredibly complicated and has been 'added to' over the last 40 (?) years. To 'unravel' this in less than 2 years was a ridiculous notion.
The 'good trade deals' that are promised will take years to set up as potential 'new' traders have already established deals, it is not as if a whole undiscovered continent with new trade possibilities has suddenly materialised.
The EU is not demanding 'a ransom' for the UK leaving, but there are trade deals and commitments in existence that the UK signed up to so backing out requires payment.

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 17:59

Jesus Christ, you voted leave and now you’re getting pissy because they won’t do everything your way?? But this is what you wanted isn’t it? Freedom from the EU? Isn’t that why you voted to leave?

Having the audacity to expect them to make it easy for us is laughable. It really is an insight into the minds of the people who got us into this mess.

Let your beloved Westminster sort it out, autonomy is what you wanted. We all have to live with the consequences. You voted for this, so you can’t complain when it happens.

A4710Rider · 08/05/2018 18:00

I for one am quite happy about not giving the EU £40 billion quid.

TheVeryHungryDieter · 08/05/2018 18:01

@A4710Rider we've already agreed to pay it, so no, nobody cares...

IronMansIronButt · 08/05/2018 18:01

Shame you still have to then, ain't it?

A4710Rider · 08/05/2018 18:02

@A4710Rider we've already agreed to pay it, so no, nobody cares

If we hard brexit, we don't be paying anything.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 08/05/2018 18:03

It won't be a hard brexit.

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 18:03

That £40 billion deal is about the only thing that HAS been agreed, so it’s non negotiable.

keyboardkate · 08/05/2018 18:04

"It isn't, we voted to leave,.

Ireland's politicians need to tread carefully and don't burn their bridges".

I think Ireland will have no worries at all. They are EU as are the remaining community. I feel you are trying to lay blame. It will not work. Britain is no longer the big I AM that it thinks it was. Your comment was typical of those who scaremonger and blame others.

Britain is leaving, bye bye now. Why should anyone else worry about a country that has not made ONE decision that is of real importance yet, off their own bat I mean. Hilarious the hubris sometimes.

Ireland (ROI) have been planning for the consequences since the referendum. I think Ireland will be OK. UK not so much, but we shall see. That is not being hateful or anything, just lack of planning is evident in UK so far anyway. But I suppose a BIG push might happen after the Summer Hols.

Mousefunky · 08/05/2018 18:05

I want it over and done with now so we can stop bitching on about it. I feel like someone has been slowly tearing a plaster off for two years and it’s far more excruciating than just ripping the cunt off. I was and still am a remainer, I’m just tired of it all now.

A4710Rider · 08/05/2018 18:05

You really think we're going to pay £40 billion if we don't have a trade deal in place?

Bless you, bless you all.

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 18:06

Britain is no longer the big I AM that it thinks it was

Exactly.

TheVeryHungryDieter · 08/05/2018 18:06

There are two parts to EU Exit: leaving, and future relationship. The terms of leaving are sorted, more or less, except for NI and citizens rights. We'll pay.

We use "no deal" Brexit meaning no future relationship agreement. And that's reasonably likely.

IronMansIronButt · 08/05/2018 18:06

You really think you're not? Oh, so naive!

A4710Rider · 08/05/2018 18:07

I think Ireland will have no worries at all

That's fine then, Kate. I guess the EU and Ireland will be thinking of building a new bridge to connect Ireland and the European mainland.

Seems legit.

IronMansIronButt · 08/05/2018 18:07

I guess the EU and Ireland will be thinking of building a new bridge to connect Ireland and the European mainland.

Why would they need one? There isn't one now.
