To wish the EU would throw us a bone so we can cancel Brexit

They don't want us to leave. We don't want to leave. So what could Macron'n'Merkel offer us so we can say "go on, we'll stay together for the sake of the kids".

sure, the UK as a whole is more important than regional situations

Regional situations? Do you have any understanding of Irish/NIrish/British politics over the last century? Any? Because I’m praying your comments are as a result of ignorance of the situation. Surely nobody is that stupid?

Luisa27 · 08/05/2018 15:52

The ‘regional situation’ comment is puzzling me a bit too

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 15:52

sure, the GFA only affects parts of NI, not the whole of the UK

The GFA was put in place to try and stop the killing of innocents, which I can absolutely assure you affected the rest of the UK. And even if it didn’t, are you honestly prepared to put the people of NI back to before the GFA because it’s convenient?

Felicity556 · 08/05/2018 15:52

why not bring up WW2 whilst your at it, I mean do you have any knowledge of what happened then, I mean we could go back to war with Germany or something if Brexit actually happens...

Felicity556 · 08/05/2018 15:54

Most youth of today weren't involved as such in the troubles, not as activists anyhow, so all this hype about the 'past' is mere grandstanding to try an avoid leaving the customs union

I want to leave.

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 15:57

@Felicity556 do you know how utterly ridiculous you sound?

You ask anyone from NI who lived through The Troubles, who lost people they loved, who lived in the shadow of it how distant it is.

You are really making an absolute arse of yourself. And I’m desperately hoping that some intelligent Leave voters come along to explain their reasoning, because none so far have managed and you and others are a terrible advert for Brexit.

jugglingsatsumas · 08/05/2018 15:57

Felicity puts herself firmly at the centre of the political universe. Everything else is merely regional inconvenience. Sadly for her, the world doesn't work like that and this insular attitude is doomed to failure.

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 15:59

Insular attitudes are why we’re on the brink of nuclear war, and why society in general is so intolerant and hateful.

Luisa27 · 08/05/2018 15:59

I salute you @Mothetoffourdragons!

Succinctly and eloquently put

Felicity556 · 08/05/2018 16:03

of course, re. NI, the main institution at fault here is the EU as they are the inflexible ones - they rejecy any sensible proposal by May (ie. max fac) merley to play the GFA card as a ruse to keep the UK in the EU - blame Junker and his cronies for this, they wouldn't give Cameron a deal and now they are still playing silly buggers - in the end it may be up to Irleland to get a new Teosaich with a better grasp on reality to aid in this matter

Felicity556 · 08/05/2018 16:05

mother:

non-binding you say, and democratic to reverse it , sure , should we just not appoint PM's if the voters pick the wrong un

TomRavenscroft · 08/05/2018 16:05

OK, Felicity, it's clear to me now you're just being silly about the GFA.

I shan't engage any more –but, if you do want to come back and talk about it properly, I'll be all ears.

Felicity556 · 08/05/2018 16:07

sure, the troubles were bad, so are most forms of major strife, yet the world moves on and times change - deal with it

I think you will find that the U.K. is one of the best countries for respect and integration, but things are slowly changing here and abroad, look at London with all these killings, maybe we are pushing to many different cultures together, people eventually push back when they have been forced to do or accept things that they feel they have no control over.

@Felicity556 I’m not engaging with your utter shite any longer. Your minimisation of the conflict is not only patronising and arrogant, it is deeply offensive.

user push back against what? Not being able to hate foreigners? I don’t understand what people are pushing against???

Felicity556 · 08/05/2018 16:10

if the middle class urban libs were half as bright as they think they are, then they'd never have let the situation develop to Brexit, Trump, Le Pen, AFD, UKIP etc etc...don't you people get it - enough of your smugness thanks

I was unaware that she had made any. Please share what you consider sensible.

these threads are so stressful - the same old pro brexit arguments are consistently dredged up and then invariably disapproved by hard cold facts - sovereignty and taking back control being a prime example. It's like Groundhog Day and doesn't bode well for the future when it all goes tits up
Funnily enough my lovely dp is a leave voter Never been the slightest bit politically engaged and certainly no expert on the workings of the Eu but somehow he knew it was the right thing to do Confused

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 16:13

@Felicity556 I don’t engage with bigots beyond the point of trying to explain why they’re wrong. If I continue to engage it gives your awful views more air time. Hence not engaging.

And the day Theresa May comes up with anything sensible I’ll vote for her myself! She won’t though.
