To think thong bikini bottoms are obscene

These swimsuits seem popular all of a sudden, and women have no problem getting their bums out at swimming pools or public beaches.

I personally think they're too much and I don't want to see anyone's bum cheeks. I probably sound jealous or like an old lady, but even if I had the body of a supermodel I wouldn't wear it. I feel embarrassed with a small hint of cleavage!

They're also not very flattering, even on the most attractive bodies. I just think they look cheap and tacky and I wonder when it became acceptable to wear something so revealing in public. AIBU?

Close your eyes as soon as you reach the beach then. Easy!

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 07/05/2018 20:54

We've just come back from Spain & DH actually asked if they were making a comeback whilst we were on the beach there... there were lots of cheeks on show. Couldn't give a shit tbh though I have to say very few of the arses looked good, but who cares 🤷

Liara · 07/05/2018 20:58

This has been standard wear in Brazil since forever. I remember seeing one woman who was probably around a size 20 walking down the street in one in Rio when I was a teenager and thinking I wished I was that comfortable with my body.

Blaablaablaa · 07/05/2018 21:00

Wow! Some very strong opinions on this topic. Jeez!
I love a thong ....my DH's bum looks peachy in a nice thong and apparently they're a lot more supportive than regular briefs /boxers.

Strictly underwear in our house though....not brave enough to let the general public see either of us in thong beachwear! But fair play to those that do!

Blaablaablaa · 07/05/2018 21:02

@NCjane I don't think you understand the word pornographic

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/05/2018 21:04

Definitely not a fan. And I especially don’t want to see an elderly gentleman dangling his bait in one as I did a few years ago. That’s a sight I can’t unsee.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 07/05/2018 21:06

The world is just not ready to see my arse.

I find them uncomfortable and yes think they are tacky. If someone wants to wear them thats their choice, what really irritates me is those people that wear them and then constantly pull them out their arse crack, or people wearing mini skirts and spend all night tugging them down. Just buy something that doesn't ride up.

notmypropername · 07/05/2018 21:10

Honestly we're just humans all with the same parts: I don't get it really. I mean I don't want a beach full of fannies and willies. But a bare bum or a topless, couldn't care less

Roussette · 07/05/2018 21:18

@PlatypusPie
Ditto! I was there earlier this year on Ipanema and Cocacabana and honestly a lot of the women were absolutely beautiful in their thongs, I was so envious. Such freedom and confidence in their bodies.

Branleuse · 07/05/2018 21:38

Theyre vile and tacky

FreeMantle · 07/05/2018 21:39

I have been to Brazil and it's just what you wear. It's not showing off. The country however still has a very macho culture which has its downsides. You'd be daft to think the two phenomenon aren't related.

I had totally admiration for a size 18 woman wearing short shorts, a bra top with full tats, at the rugby this weekend .She totally owned her look amongst the identikit perfect summer shorts and vest top, long haired wannabe WAGS.
Here's to wearing what suits us.

Awomansworkisneverdone · 07/05/2018 21:41

Amen!!

IRefuseToAgree · 07/05/2018 21:48

I wonder what makes someone decide to buy a thong rather than a bikini. 🤔. Presumably they must be consciously wanting to show their bottoms to the world. It’s a bit of a weird thing to want to do. I can understand topless sunbathing as it stops tan lines but does it really matter if there is a tan line on your arse. Comfort wise and laundry wise I can’t see any advantage with either a thong or a bikini.

I’m baffled.

DamnWhyAreAllTheUsernamesTaken · 07/05/2018 21:51

Their body, their choice. This has wound me up more than it should... let people wear what they like, FFS!

Slanetylor · 07/05/2018 21:57

They’re obscene on me. I quite like looking at wibbly wobbly bits on display.
But I’m a bit hirsute and the worlds not ready for that.

Herbalteahippie · 07/05/2018 22:12

OP if you had s great Assyrian wouldn’t care.

YABU. There’s worse things to look at. Chill.

I wear them because they are more comfortable than wet saggy full bottoms and I want a tanned bum

MistressDeeCee · 07/05/2018 22:35

No I don't want to see anyone's arse hanging out with a cheesewire divider thanks. & no they're not flattering. But I'm gauging from post they're the in thing so it is what it is I guess.

Why are people mentioning Rio? It doesn't cost much to pay for the perfect bum there and they're not fussy or cagey about plastic surgery, it's pretty much a norm.

If you think arse hanging out is fine then that should stand whether big small saggy or not, surely

TheTroutofNoCraic · 07/05/2018 22:36

I was more upset by the obscene amounts of plastic crap discarded by people on the beach today to care what anyone chose to encase their arsecrack in. But that's just me...

MizK · 07/05/2018 22:43

On the beach, I think they're fine. In a local swimming pool, no thanks. And on men, never!

Probably illogical but there we are...!

Namesallgone18 · 07/05/2018 23:20

I think if you're happy going topless than exposing your arse is all par for the course. I'm not happy doing it nor do I want to look at it. I wish there were still separate beaches for naked-or-almost-naked sun worshippers.

I don't rule the world however so people will do what they want.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/05/2018 07:09

The trouble is the people wearing them don’t have to look at themselves. I’ve seen some rear views lately I could do without. Wear them on the beach by all means but cover your arse to walk about.

StickThatInYourPipe · 08/05/2018 07:17

My swimming costume ends up being a thong when I jump in the pool anyway 🤷‍♀️

Ylvamoon · 08/05/2018 07:23

Who cares? Bikinis are part of our culture, if you don't like it don't wear it and don't go to the beach to get hung up about it.

GorgonLondon · 08/05/2018 07:37

Bluntness100

Gosh some strong feelings on here. Vile, obsense, repulsive.I can see why some folks would think it's envy. I mean why feel so strongly about a glimpse of someone's arse cheeks on the beach

Do you think we're also all jealous of the hairy man boobs, builder's bum arse cracks and pendulous sunburnt beer bellies, about which I feel exactly the same?
