to want a normal full fat fecking yogurt?!

Why is every bloody yogurt in the supermarket 'low fat' or 'zero fat' or 'lite' or '0%'. Or contains gellatine, added cream Hmm thickening agents or some other bollocks?!

I just want a normal fruit yogurt that is full fat (so high protein low sugars) without so much crap added, and that doesn't cost £2.75 a spoonful and have guava and the gold encrusted tears of vegans in the title.

Just a traditional old school flipping yogurt.

My nearest Waitrose is 30 miles away. Tesco are crap. Asda are crap. My local Sainsburys are crap. My Aldi ones had cream added!

I might brave M&S later but I'm pretty sure my last ones from there had cream added too, but they may have been the gooseberry fools Blush

Where can I get some? I long for the days of a basic small pot and a foil lid and a cow print on the tab.

Another shout out for Longley Farm. My mum used to buy them exclusively when I was a kid and I nagged for Frubes and Munch Bunch yoghurts but now I’m all about Longley Farm, I’ve got 12 in my fridge at the moment of varying flavour and none are low fat

ProudPearlClutcher · 05/05/2018 20:01

I didn’t know this is how they used to make yoghurts; just full fat yoghurt and fruit with zero added sugar? I thought they’d always been quite heavy on the sugar, but then I wasn’t born till the 80s, so maybe I missed it.

I think there’s definitely a market for just full fat yoghurt with plain fruit though. I too make my own as I hate low fat yoghurt and try to avoid sugar.

chuntersalot · 05/05/2018 20:05

Is it Ski Thick and Creamy from the 80’s? I remember that being the only yogurt I would eat and I’ve always had an aversion to low fat anything.
I ‘think’ I saw some recently but could be mistaken/ wishful thinking.
Yeo Valley Natural is the only yogurt I eat now.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 05/05/2018 20:06

You need Longley Farm yogurts. I'm lucky, I only live 10 minutes from their farm so can pop in and buy them direct. Their full fat cottage cheese is the best in the world!

Tunnocksmallow · 05/05/2018 20:12

I’ve seen longley farms yogurt and cottage cheese in home bargains OP

The legal definition of low fat foods is 3g of fat or less per 100g. Whole milk is around 3% fat, and so yoghurt made from that qualifies as a low fat food in law. There is no such thing as 'full fat yoghurt', unless you are talking about the Greek version which is strained to remove liquid and ends up a higher proportion of fat. There is a clear difference between yoghurt made from milk, and light yoghurt made with added sugar, sweeteners and thickeners. The yoghurt producers are legally entitled to use the term low fat, and so they do.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/05/2018 20:34

What an interesting pointless post.
I think we all know what we mean when we say full fat.

TittyGolightly · 05/05/2018 20:36

Whole milk is around 3% fat,

4%, actually.

Fresta · 05/05/2018 20:44

I second Longley farm yoghurts- they still do contain a fair amount of sugar though, but are all natural and not full of of artificial additive. The only problem might be that they could be hard to find 'down south' as they are a yorkshire brand. As you know- if it's not from Yorkshire it's shite! Grin

Rents · 05/05/2018 20:45

Tim's Dairy is the best! So thick. I normally get the plain but their fruit ones are really good as well. Ocado always have them on offer

NotMeNoNo · 05/05/2018 20:47

Longley Farm. Morrisons or local farm shops. They haven't messed about with that have they?

Welshmaenad · 05/05/2018 20:49

I'm also a fan of Tims Fairy - they do have cream added but not a sickly amount.

Rachel's organic and Yeo Valley are nice too.

I can sometimes get Llaeth Y Llan Welsh full fat yoghurts which are delicious but probably only available in Wales!

Welshmaenad · 05/05/2018 20:50

Ha, dairy not fairy!

NotMeNoNo · 05/05/2018 20:50

Haha should have RTFT, everyone got there first. I'm tempted to run down to Morrisons!

chachaboom · 05/05/2018 21:01

Just wanted to say yanbu. I've thought the same every supermarket trip.

Cauliflowershower · 05/05/2018 21:40

What I’d like is lunchbox sized pots of plain greek yogurt. I know you can get them in Lidl but each pot is quite big.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 05/05/2018 21:41

@romeobunny YABVVU.

Everyone knows that it’s not real yoghurt without those gold encrusted vegan tears!!

Thankyou for making me laugh! I agree it’s very hard to find things now that have no artificial element.

Delilah21D00LoT · 05/05/2018 21:48

I hate low fat, no fat, low sugar - replaced with sweetener bollox!
Tim's Dairy yogurts are delish and with normal levels of everything.

I also recommend Petits Filous: petitsfilous.co.uk/our-range-big-pots

Enjoy!

topcat2014 · 05/05/2018 21:52

I add fruit ch ocolate to plain yogurt

Ktay · 05/05/2018 21:53

@Cauliflowershower Yeo Valley do them?

Twotothreeagain · 05/05/2018 21:55

La laitière are the French ones in the glass pots, owned by Nestlé, you can still get them in France.

Lidl Greek yogurt is a nice thick full fat one, I’ve given up on flavoured ones too, they’re all too sweet, often with sweeteners. It does have cream though.

Twotothreeagain · 05/05/2018 21:57

Also Glenilen Farm if you can get them are really good, especially the ones with the fruit at the bottom, not too sweet and no rubbish.

Onedaylikethi5 · 05/05/2018 21:57

Another longley farm fan here. 34p, loads of yummy flavours and delightfully old fashioned.

MrsMarigold · 05/05/2018 21:58

Yeo Valley or Rachel's there is usually an offer or are there any turkish shops near you?
