To hate Jo Wiley

Not personally obviously, surprisingly enough I don't know her, but I love the Radio 2 Drivetime programme and she is going to ruin it. I find her voice grating, she has a babyish breathy style that is highly irritating. The Drivetime show was perfect and now they have got rid of homework, foody Thursday with Nigel and they are getting rid of MATT!!!! Are they crazy???

I'm all for gender equality but why can't Jo share a show with Steve Wright as his show is already awful.

I know I may be getting this out of proportion but it feels like this show is part of my life and it's just gone.

Im with you OP... she annoys the hell out of me, she's too lovey!

The80sweregreat · 03/05/2018 20:26

I like five live - not many people I know listen to it.

Awks · 03/05/2018 20:28

Am laughing at "she's a proper turnip". Quite.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/05/2018 20:29

I switch between 2, radio 4, radio 5Live and, my personal guilty pleasure, Radio 4Extra

That;s because I don't love music enough

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 03/05/2018 20:29

I like Radio 4 and listen to it a lot but the 5 - 7 slot is too news heavy and then there are the hit and miss 'comedies' at 6:30.

I switch about in the car! I dislike Steve Wright so he goes off. He should retire.

Slartybartfast · 03/05/2018 20:34

i am upset too, and i like jo wiley in the evening, and i love a confession with simon mayo, and homework sucks

TheKitchenWitch · 03/05/2018 20:35

Steve Wright should fuck off to the far side of fuck.
And I personally don't get the Ken Bruce love, I think he is embarassing.
But the Drivetime team was perfection.

Nononononono33 · 03/05/2018 20:39

I haven’t seen the news about the Confessions being dropped? I do like Jo Whiley but it’s a terrible decision to change Drivetime and all its features. I love Matt and his laugh!

MorningsEleven · 03/05/2018 20:39

She the posh gobby kid who thinks she's cool but really isn't. The Jarvis Cocker song Common People is about her. She's a rich wannabe

She's an arse

Slartybartfast · 03/05/2018 20:41

dont like all request fridays though

malvinandhobbes · 03/05/2018 20:41

*Steve Wright and Ken Bruce are exactly the same.

Um. No they are not. Not in the slightest.*

To be fair, I did not grow up in this country. It is possible that natives can distinguish between more kinds of boring white English men than I can. I find them both somewhat irrelevant.

I'm not arguing there is no room for boring old white men on Radio 2, but a bit of variety would be welcome.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/05/2018 20:43

Ken Bruce is most definitely not English!

malvinandhobbes · 03/05/2018 20:45

I should have said "irrelevant to me"

I'm glad to hear so many of you are getting your needs met by the old white men of Radio 2 and I am sure you are all interesting people. Perhaps I need a car with digital radio.

malvinandhobbes · 03/05/2018 20:46

Ah, fine. Ken Bruce is Scottish. He is still boring. Those cannot be real call in jokes. That is not wit. That is tedium.

Slartybartfast · 03/05/2018 20:48

i miss Lynn Bowles

BertandQueenieforever · 03/05/2018 20:50

Ugh just remembered that after EVERY Live Lounge track finished she would say “oh wow, goosebumps” in an annoying fawning voice. Angry

yikesanotherbooboo · 03/05/2018 20:51

Me too starty.
I too switch between 2, 5 4 and 4 extra . But I love Simon Mayo's show and will miss it.

Appaloosajunction · 03/05/2018 20:51

Can't stand Ken Bruce. Grin

Badbilly · 03/05/2018 20:52

I think the best female presenter on R2, and by a country mile, is Lisa Tarbuck on Saturday early evening. However, I realise that her slot suits her quirky sense of humour perfectly, and don't think she would suit the drive time slot.

I think Jo Whiley suits her old evening slot too, where she had more licence to play more new or obscure music, whereas the drive time slot has to be more mainstream.

I do like Simon Mayo, but have never really forgiven him from years ago when he was a DJ on my local BBC station and professed his love for the local football team, then as soon as he moved to Radio 1 he suddenly became a life-long die hard Spurs fan!

Nanny0gg · 03/05/2018 20:52

Ken Bruce is Scottish, not English - his voice is very different to Steve Wright's and so is his show (thank the Lord!)

i miss Lynn Bowles

Me too, Slarty

SingingTunelessly · 03/05/2018 20:52

Ken Bruce is not boring. Steve Wright is boring. Why oh why are they changing the Drivetime show so much. No more Matt and Nigel. Sad I am so old that I’ve actually made some of Nigel’s recipes Shock. It just won’t be the same with Jo on board as much as I like her 8pm show (yes I know she loves music) but it’s just part of the evening. I may need to get out more.

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 03/05/2018 20:54

I still listen to Radio 1 most of the time during the week, despite being well over their target audience age, because so much of R2 seems too old for me. Ken Bruce has been there since I was a teenager - I wouldn't have listened to him then, why the hell would I want to now?

R2 have the likes of Elaine Paige ffs! If R1's target is under 30s, surely R2's target audience should be 30+, not 60+.
I don't mind Jo Wiley, but prefer Sarah Cox and Zoe Ball.

Thequeenisdeadboys · 03/05/2018 20:56

Love Jo Wiley ! She's bloody fab ! Will def miss her 8pm show.

user1486076969 · 03/05/2018 21:01

Surely somethings will remain from each others show....like 'Confessions'? I love the Simon Mayo Drivetime show but kind of appreciate how things probably have to change at some point...but not keen on Jo Wiley. How about Sara Cox, she's a natural?

As a complete aside DH went to university with Simon MayoShock
