To hate Jo Wiley

Not personally obviously, surprisingly enough I don't know her, but I love the Radio 2 Drivetime programme and she is going to ruin it. I find her voice grating, she has a babyish breathy style that is highly irritating. The Drivetime show was perfect and now they have got rid of homework, foody Thursday with Nigel and they are getting rid of MATT!!!! Are they crazy???

I'm all for gender equality but why can't Jo share a show with Steve Wright as his show is already awful.

I know I may be getting this out of proportion but it feels like this show is part of my life and it's just gone.

Ken Bruce is Scottish, not English - his voice is very different to Steve Wright's and so is his show (thank the Lord!)

I am not suggesting they are EXACTLY the same. I can hear the difference. I just don't care.

R2 have the likes of Elaine Paige ffs! If R1's target is under 30s, surely R2's target audience should be 30+, not 60+.

I'm 60+ and wouldn't dream of listening to Elaine Page, but I dare say there are millions of listeners who love her and the niche music she plays.

I like Jo Wiley and I like Mayo (I still recall waiting in anticipation for him to premiere Personal Jesus and The Fly - seminal moments in my teens). I also like Edith Bowman.

Steve Wright and Ken Bruce however can just go back to the 1970s where most of their bland music and jokes hail from. FWIW I like lots of 70s music, but it's always KB "and here's Kiki Dee..."

I love Jo Whiley, but I sympathize. It's highly irritating to hear a voice you don't like on the radio, especially when it replaces one you do. For me it's marble mouthed Sara Cox, laughs through his teeth Chris Evans, and the cunt Chris Moyles. I can't stand any of them.

No proof of this theory, but I think Simon Mayo is really unhappy that he's been backed into this. He sounded bereft but holding it together tonight, but literally couldn't do the corporate end of show wind-up and said farewell to Nigel and Matt with a song, then silence and a beep.

I give it 6 months.

His new book is ace, btw.

She perhaps says it to distinguish herself from the likes of Jermy Vine, who doesn’t make any secret of the fact he knows fuck all about music --unlessit’s Elvis Costello or The Smiths--
I always got the feeling that Simon Mayo was sneering at people when they said they were driving to a caravan in Barrowmess or somewhere. Whereas Ken Bruce is never stuck for something to say - whether he’s talking to a window cleaner or Kate Bush.
Honestly, if anything happens to Ken we have to organise a march.

I’m gutted too. I don’t mind JW but not on Drivetime instead of Matt and Bobbie and Nigel. Such a shame.

I’m sure JW is lovely in rl and Zoe Ball but I just can’t listen to them. Zoe Ball talks soooo fast I cannot figure it what she is saying. Dermot O’Leary used to annoy me in the same slot as he bloody mumbled.

Simon Mayo so talented he definitely doesnt need another presenter on with him. Ken Bruce however has had his day and she could have been given that slot. I get that R2 needs a woman in daytime AS. THEY HAVE NONE but this isn’t way to do it.

I could not read that article linked above I tried but the name dropping was just tiresome. I don’t mind her but she just reminds me of one of those posh groupies who’s ever so nice but ruthless underneath. Besides my friend saw her on holiday once with David Cameron and that kind of did it for me.

It’s been said on here before that Steve Wright must have something on the BBC he is such a complete wanker - he should have had his show cancelled many many years ago!! I know someone who works for R2 and they told me “he’s too popular” That is utter bollocks!

I also cannot stand Jo Whiley, she comes across as arrogant and boring.

Looks like my Radio 2 days are numbered...
